My son Tyler and I were on a week long fishing trip in Northern Ontario and this chipmunk showed up the first day. Tyler gave him some peanuts. The chipmunk would load his cheeks up, run back to its home, empty his cheeks then come back for more. After 1 day we ran out of peanuts so I had to drive 60 miles to the closest town to get some more. My son named him " crazy ". Tyler would get up in the morning, go outside the trailer and call " crazy " and he would come running, He would run up Tylers leg and up to his shoulder. He would sit on Tyler for hours and the two of them seemed to become very attached to each other. Tyler had more fun with crazy then he did fishing. Tyler was really sad when it was time for us to leave.

Every, everytime I take a picture of Polly, I can't stop thinking how cute she is!
And it lasts for almost 6 years already!! :-))
As we traveled in our bus, the kids would stop what they were doing to wave at us. Actually, anyone who we waved to, would do the same. India is full of friendly people!

its great how close you can get to nature if you put the time in i have been every day since they were born and some-times twice a day.

The Decatur, IL local with a friendly Norfolk Southern train crew heads back into their yard with light power, and approaches the CN diamond. Seeing two SD-60's (unrebuilt) is getting rarer to do, but the Decatur local has them...for now.

At the end of the walk, I saw these two cows grooming each other, sad that the picture is a bit blurry...

This is the second time I've seen this big baby on the roof of the house behind ours. Checking out the feeder birds. I think these guys are supposed to prefer mammals like mice and voles and chipmunks. But when they're desperate, it seems, they go for birds (at the feeder). This guy must have gone for a pigeon in our yard since as soon as we spotted him scoping out the yard we noticed a giant dead pigeon near a puff of pulled off feathers. Why did he leave the pigeon? My guess is it was too heavy for him to leave with. It was a really big pigeon (of course, he's been eating at our house!). Can they take a big pigeon?
The RSHs are in this area year round. There is green space where we see them hunt, especially in the winter. I hear them more than see them in the spring and summer.
We normally see Cooper's Hawks at our house. They prey on the feeder birds. We see them on the fence, the nearby trees, the neighbors fences and trees and in the air. One adult has gotten so bold that he does not care if I watch him. In fact, the other day he jumped into the hanging platform feeder I have trying to get a better look at what little birds might be hiding in the scrub that is close to the ground. Stinker! He even jumped from there to the ground. Last week we had a juvie Cooper's Hawk stop on the fence but he didn't like us watching him and took off pretty quick.

I'm firmly of the opinion that these two don't like each other much. This pose took me three hours to set up! I would get one standing, and then start to put the other up as well, and the first would fall down. It wasn't that they were leaning against each other and the balance was off. There not even touching! I made a point of that. It was literally when the other's presence was nearby, the first one would fall (I would expect that in carpet because of the depression that's created nearby, but they were on a hardback book!) Looks like group pictures are always going to be challenging :(
Not the greatest picture - Rin is out of focus in pretty much every picture I took. I'm going to need to work on getting my camera settings right to get them both in focus, but since they only managed to stand for 15 minutes before tumbling again, that wasn't a battle I wanted to fight again today!
EDIT - I probably also should mention - I'm thinking of naming the new girl Anjali. I like the name, and in the context of the story, the meaning fits (it means Sacrifice). Any opinions?

The Neston Female Friendly Society goes back long before the suffragette movement; they were formed in 1814 as a cooperative benevolent society by women of the town to support one another while their menfolk were away fighting in the Napoleonic wars. The Society still exists (although they dropped the word "friendly" from the title in 2003), and the highlight of the year is their Ladies Day floral parade through town on the first Thursday in June.
