Carpenter bees (Xylocopa) are solitary bees (similar to mason and leafcutter bees), and their excavation efforts involve creating a tunnel to raise their brood. Fortunately, they are exceedingly docile as the males don't sting at all, and you practically have to squish the female between your fingers to elicit a reaction.

Thank you very much for your kind comments and visit, much appreciated!

Not friendly but still beautiful sea at Kokkini Chani, Heraklion Crete

We have had a really hot dry summer this year and a lot of my plants have suffered but my geraniums have flowered their little socks off and the Bees have loved it.

I must look clueless when I am out shooting and have sad puppy dog eyes were friendly people want to help correct my ways.

On this sunset, I was at Panorama Point in Capitol Reef National Park. The "view" is the opposite direction, and I was set up with my tripod looking in the opposite direction from everyone else.

Three separate people came up to me, letting me know where I was supposed to be shooting. I thanked them for their kindness and stood my ground :-)

this little sparrow decided to perch near where I was sitting and didn't seem to mind me sticking a lens into her face to capture this portrait.

I was just passing by, walking along in the village of Oberndorf in Lower Bavaria (Niederbayern). We were complete strangers. But I broke the ice by offering the horses a couple of juicy plums from a tree beyond the electric fence. From that moment on we were the best of friends. I posted one image of these two back in 2018, but I like this one too. [FUJI8598_lr_2000]

Thank you all for the clicks, comments & faves.

The only way to get a clean shot was to crawl part way under the gate (the only part of the fence not electrified), which resulted in the somewhat unusual POV. There was no threat - their body language says it all.

This robin was very impressive lol he let me have my own photo shoot that day..

Another one from the sculpture's yard. The sign said it was a flower but looking up it looked more like a dragon to me. I must be wrong because there was an actual dragon next to it. Well, not actual, but recognizable as such. That one was difficult to photograph in one piece so I don't know yet if I can show it.

This guy came into the backyard yesterday. I went out to make sure the deer could find it's way back over the fence. Instead he started following me around. Had to finally make enough noise for him to leave. Then hung out in the green belt, munching away for about 20 minutes. Before he left, I told him to watch out for the local Cougar.

An Eastern Towhee flaps its wing. I prefer to think it was a friendly wave at this photographer.

I don't think I have any right to call myself an animal photographer. But today, there was this friendly cat sitting high up on a wall and looking (talking?) to me. I was allowed to touch her/his whiskers and, then, take this shot. Fuji X-E2; the image is heavily cropped.

Beautiful fox who befriended us and lived in our garden, she would sleep next to us in the garden and pop into the kitchen for a treat.

Grey seal in the Treshnish Islands

...there isn't such a thing, but it stayed there long enough for me to catch it.

I know waves are not friendly to people sometimes, but I captured these waves from my hometown, Kalutara North, Sri Lanka. I feel like they are friendly!!!

Only one of all the Red-backed Shrikes I saw at the Cristei Meadow was brave and friendly enough to approach me.

A nice mix of colours go well with the silhouette :-)

I've seen a few of these over the years but only a fleeting glimpse as they are very fast and normally slither away before you can even raise your camera. This guy seemed the same when all of a sudden he raised his head up and sat there and actually posed.
