Carpenter bees (Xylocopa) are solitary bees (similar to mason and leafcutter bees), and their excavation efforts involve creating a tunnel to raise their brood. Fortunately, they are exceedingly docile as the males don't sting at all, and you practically have to squish the female between your fingers to elicit a reaction.
Thank you very much for your kind comments and visit, much appreciated!
I was just passing by, walking along in the village of Oberndorf in Lower Bavaria (Niederbayern). We were complete strangers. But I broke the ice by offering the horses a couple of juicy plums from a tree beyond the electric fence. From that moment on we were the best of friends. I posted one image of these two back in 2018, but I like this one too. [FUJI8598_lr_2000]

The snowdrops have been blooming for about a month now, and still are. I thought I'd post this one, because I met one of my neighbours while shooting these. I've mentioned before that I photograph flowers in neighbours' yards. So I was shooting these, and the woman who lived in the house came out to see what I was doing. She was very friendly and asked about my photography, and was so happy that her flowers made me happy too. We introduced ourselves and I've made a new friend :)
When your subject takes a couple steps forward and decides to fold her arms, you know she trusts you. Shortly after she dozed off. Wish every Bobcat would do this. Lol!

Beautiful fox who befriended us and lived in our garden, she would sleep next to us in the garden and pop into the kitchen for a treat.
Seen along the trail in the DeVoto Memorial Cedar Grove in the Clearwater National Forest, along highway 12 in northeastern Idaho. The grove is named for Bernard DeVoto, a conservationist and historian of the American west.
Only one of all the Red-backed Shrikes I saw at the Cristei Meadow was brave and friendly enough to approach me.

I've seen a few of these over the years but only a fleeting glimpse as they are very fast and normally slither away before you can even raise your camera. This guy seemed the same when all of a sudden he raised his head up and sat there and actually posed.
On April 30 I had a lovely chat with friendly visitors from space and I even could sneek a peek into their cockpit and take an image of it ! You see the captain of the crew.
Unfortunaltely this space ship was too small for me to hop in myself ... but it was a fun encounter nonetheless !
Crazy Tuesday - theme of May 3rd, 2022: Made of Plastic
This is actually the plastic head of a reusable metal cocktail stick for finger food; taken in front of the keyboard of my tablet with internal lighting switched on; additional lighting with a coloured LED-light
[ taken with the manual Laowa 60mm 2x magnification lens @ about f/4; the "head"' is about 2.5 cm high ]
I will catch up in the evening ! :)

While I was about to get into my car, I saw this lovely cat appear from underneath someone's side gate. Not to be confused with my neighbour's cat, Nala, this guy is much more furry. I was pleased I happened to have my camera with me.
