I met some friendly little chipmunks on top of an old volcanic cinder cone called Lava Butte in central Oregon on vacation this summer. I told them I didn't have any food but they followed me all around anyway and even climbed into my camera bag

A friendly engineer runs a coal train along the water at Clark's Point.

The brakeman (or fireman back then) waves as I photogrpah this train in 1974 at Griffith IN. I bet they didn't even bother to call me in to Homeland Security. Oops..I don't think there was HS in 1974.

We always meet the nicest, most friendly people on our travels, despite what this sign says. It may have been a controversy between husband and wife because not 30 feet from the shed was a house with at least three welcome signs! LOL Also, a bit ironic as there was a nice padlock on the door (hard to see in the photo but it's there) and absolutely No window! :)

Oh this was such a friendly little soul, much to his Mum's disgust. He kept following me about and nudging me :)) I did leave him with his Mum.

Naomi takes walks around the apartment complex and ran into a very friendly orange cat. The apartment complex really doesn't like stray animals on the grounds but this cat appears not to care... Picture by Naomi.

Quite a large spider to be living in the middle of all the concrete jungle.

From back leg to the front leg about 11cm.

Found it feasting on a very large moth.

On times of Covid-19, I've "invited" her for a tour in my home where it was very comfortable to pose and "smile" to my camera :)

Very tough looking.... I hate to think if it could grow at human size...

Net-casting Spiders have a unique way of catching their prey. They make a small web in the form of a net held by the front legs that can be stretched out wide to envelop an unwary insect passing by.

Identification

The spider has excellent eyesight, with a huge pair of forward facing eyes that help it to see at night. The genus commonly encountered in gardens is Deinopis. Another genus, Avella, has less prominent eyes.

Net-casting Spiders have stick-like bodies, with spindly legs. Members of the genus Deinopis have a large, prominent pair of eyes at the front of the head (hence their other common name of Ogre-faced Spiders) and vary in colouring from fawn to pinkish brown or chocolate brown. Members of the genus Avella have smaller eyes and have subtle greenish brown to grey patterning. The males are smaller and even more slender and stick-like than the females, and can differ from them in their colour and patterning.

Lovely little Robin following us along the fence at Quarry Bank Mill and of course duly rewarded.

This is a short video of my good garden friend :-) It lives in the garden of a house I have done the gardening in for about eleven years, so I have seen it's parents and the parents before that! I really look forward to my Thursdays! I had just finished the mowing on one of their lawns and he decided to want a chat! Out of an eight hour working day...I probably do six!! 😊

This little guy loves to hangout hoping someone will give him a something to eat. So I gave him a cheeto and he sat on the rail and ate it. He'll come right in the house if we leave the door open looking for nuts and cheetos :)

I took this photo at the Newport Aquarium in Kentucky. No special filters were used to shoot through the glass. This is posted for a new friend who's name will remain unknown for now. Mysterious! Haha! Sorry I haven't been on Flickr much today. I ended up not doing my priority jobs here at home and went to the zoo. Hope everyone had a wonderful day!

My new Flickr friend is Gail www.flickr.com/photos/shotzy/ from Canada and we met up for a photo shoot at the zoo and the aquarium. We had the best time ever!

I didn't realize that I shouldn't encourage this behavior at Birds of Eden. This bird was obviously a former pet, and we both wanted some attention.

Time to smile.

Our friendly garden robin. He regularly feeds from our hand and when we are not around waits by the window for our return.

I found this spot by a pond that these ducks and geese like to come to. They got so excited when I drove up! I guess they thought someone was going to feed them! ha! I didn't have anything for them to eat...and it wouldn't have been healthy for them anyway. I just wanted to grab a few quick shots! I made the mistake of getting out of the car, however. One was so angry that I didn't feed them, he took a nip out of me! Wasn't bad; just a little unnerving. I always enjoy getting pictures of ducks and geese...hope you enjoy, as well!

Many of the Riders were working on the 'bad and dangerous' look...but they still loved having their photo taken as they roared past, and even managed a friendly wave ! Have a great weekend!
