nature does it all. Some people might see nothing in things like this, but to me it is one of those things that happens everyday in our life and we take for granted. I feel we are linked to nature and nature to us in every way. And I know, some people don't care about this kind of subject. I do.

平成２６年１月１８日（土） 僕は基本的に逆光よりも順光ののっぺりした画のほうが好きだし、露出を考えたり調整するのも億劫で逆光を避けるのだが、時折モノを眺めてピンと来た時に陰影をつける為に太陽と対峙する。冬の太陽は夏に比べて低い位置にあるから光の当たりが際立ち易い。
Southern Hawker Dragonfly. The two shots I've posted are the result of 40 intensely frustrating minutes of mostly following the flight, pressing the shutter and trashing the out of focus result! Swallows in flight are easy by comparison. (The title is because I mis-identied it as an Emperor. Thanks again to Fenwalker whose shots of invertebrates are superb!)
Henry Moore - Form and Material - Museum Beelden aan Zee - The Hague
In collaboration with the Henry Moore Foundation, Museum Beelden aan Zee has made a selection of works from the artist's substantial oeuvre. Around 70 objects and sculptures portray the artistic vision and creative process of one of the most important innovators of modern sculpture. The exhibition in Beelden aan Zee focuses on the influence of nature on his work and his growth and development as a sculptor. From promoting direct carving – carving without using preparatory sketches and studies – to experimenting with casting in lead and bronze. Henry Moore (1898-1986) is one of the most important British artists of the twentieth century. His sculptures balance on the boundary between figurative and abstract art and continue to be a source of inspiration to artists. His work has a recognisable and characteristic formal language. Important themes in his oeuvre are ‘mother and child’ and his reclining figures, which he explored extensively.
From the 1920s, Moore participated in countless British and international exhibitions, with solo as well as group exhibitions, he sold work on a regular basis, and so made a name for himself as an important modernist sculptor. However, the Second World War called a halt to these positive developments. Henry Moore left his teaching post and took up a commission as a war artist. It was in this capacity that he produced his deeply moving Shelter Drawings of Londoners crowding the city's underground stations sheltering from the Blitz. In the 1950s he created larger groups of figures. The prices for his works increased considerably and his fame as an international artist continued to grow. In later years he served as a trustee at both the Tate Gallery and the National Gallery and he was the recipient of a large number of prizes and honours.

Edited Spitzer Space Telescope image of the star forming region W51. Color/processing variant.
Original caption: The nebula known as W51 is one of the most active star-forming regions in the Milky Way galaxy. First identified in 1958 by radio telescopes, it makes a rich cosmic tapestry in this image from NASA's recently retired Spitzer Space Telescope.
Located about 17,000 light-years from Earth, in the direction of the constellation Aquila in the night sky, W51 is about 350 light-years - or about 2 quadrillion miles - across. It is almost invisible to telescopes that collect visible light (the kind human eyes detect), because that light is blocked by interstellar dust clouds that lie between W51 and Earth. But longer wavelengths of light, including radio and infrared, can pass unencumbered through the dust. When viewed in infrared by Spitzer, W51 is a spectacular sight: Its total infrared emission is the equivalent of 20 million Suns.
Tras realizar un análisis a la forma como operan los programas que maneja el Departamento para la Prosperidad Social, su rol en el sistema de protección social y la estructuración de una ruta eficaz para reducir la pobreza, expertos del Banco Mundial concluyeron que es necesario establecer una ruta secuencial y progresiva de atención por parte de los programas misionales y articularse con el SISBEN IV para alimentar la caracterización de la población objetivo.
Durante la visita realizada esta semana, la Misión recomendó adicionalmente ajustar la focalización de los programas, georreferenciar los hogares para establecer perfiles que permitan construir paquetes de oferta pertinentes, y articular cuatro elementos esenciales para la focalización de los programas como lugar, objetivo común, intervenciones complementarias y seguimiento al hogar.
“Son varios los retos que se desprenden de este trabajo con Banco Mundial, como monitorear de manera continua el piloto de intervención de la Estrategia Unidos en 2019, fortalecer el sistema de información Llave Maestra, definir una ruta integral de atención a población étnica y fortalecer el trabajo de articulación con Planeación Nacional en el marco de la implementación del SISBEN IV". indicó la directora general del Departamento para la Prosperidad Social, Susana Correa Borrero,
De acuerdo con el análisis del organismo, los programas sociales que maneja la entidad cuentan con diversas fortalezas como la fuerte articulación entre Jóvenes y Familias en Acción, acciones urbano-rurales diferenciadas, acompañamiento familiar, apoyo en inclusión productiva y un trabajo interinstitucional con otras entidades de gobierno, que facilitan la correlación de metas y objetivos.
Por su parte, Sara Giannozzi. especialista en Protección Social para América Latina y el Caribe del Banco Mundial explicó que, “Estamos acá porque Prosperidad Social nos solicitó un apoyo para revisar los programas en el contexto de difusión de una ruta de superación de la pobreza y para ver cómo se puede hacer más efectiva la intervención de la Entidad, determinar los diferentes elementos necesarios para constituir esa ruta e intervenir de manera integrada en los hogares para lograr mejores resultados en el mediano y largo plazo".
Finalmente, dentro de la asistencia técnica del Banco Mundial también se contempló el fortalecimiento institucional de Prosperidad Social frente a la gestión del riesgo y se señaló que es importante construir protocolos institucionales para la prevención y atención de desastres naturales, que incorporen los esfuerzos individuales de las direcciones misionales en tales escenarios.

Standing like unstrung lutes in a temple like gallery these forms could be instruments waiting to be strung and played to bring the gods into contact with the worshippers. Strings will never be set into these forms and yet they and tuned and played. The setting arranged by the artist and the scene made in the gallery create the tension on the strings. The viewers play the notes and follow the ephemeral chords to reach their own divine imaginings.
At the time of taking these pictures The Hepworth Wakefield was just over a year old. It houses a superb collection of works by Barbara Hepworth and features displays from other artists. Designed by David Chipperfield Architects with 10 galleries this is definitely a place to make a visit to.

Today's work space (10/25). I threw 36 tiny hollow closed form balls measuring about 1.5" in diameter off the hump on a complete whim. It was really fun encouraging the obsessive compulsive side of my personality. I'm really interested in the practice of making identical objects -great for skill development.
Now what? I've decided a few will definitely turn into wine stoppers for the Holidays. Perhaps the rest in a wall sculpture?
