Tulips (Tulipa) form a genus of spring-blooming perennial herbaceous bulbiferous geophytes (having bulbs as storage organs). The flowers are usually large, showy and brightly colored, generally red, pink, yellow, or white (usually in warm colors). They often have a different colored blotch at the base of the tepals (petals and sepals, collectively), internally. Tulips originally were found in a band stretching from Southern Europe to Central Asia, but since the seventeenth century have become widely naturalised and cultivated. Flowering in the spring, they become dormant in the summer once the flowers and leaves die back, emerging above ground as a shoot from the underground bulb in early spring. The tulip's flowers are usually large and are actinomorphic (radially symmetric) and hermaphrodite (contain both male (androecium) and female (gynoecium) characteristics), generally erect, or more rarely pendulous, and are arranged more usually as a single terminal flower, or when pluriflor as two to three (e.g. Tulipa turkestanica), but up to four, flowers on the end of a floriferous stem (scape), which is single arising from amongst the basal leaf rosette. 11717

El Parque Nacional de Huascarán forma parte del macizo central de la Cordillera Blanca, en la zona norte de los Andes Peruanos. La Cordillera Blanca se diferencia de la Cordillera Negra porque la primera tiene nieves perpetuas.
El lago Llanganuco, de origen glacial, está situado a 3840m sobre el nivel del mar, muy próximo al Nevado Huascarán (6.768 m).
El árbol que se ve en el primer plano pertenece al género polylepis, término que derivo del griego "poly" = muchos y "lepis" = láminas, escamas... Su nombre común es queñua, queñual o quewiña, que deriva del término quechua "qiwiña". Se trata de árboles capaces de vivir en ambientes muy fríos, como es el caso de la montaña andina.

La Mannara nella realtà è la Fornace Penna, un monumento di archeologia industriale che si trova in contrada Pisciotto a Sampieri, frazione del comune di Scicli in provincia di Ragusa.

Ce chevet aux formes arrondies appartient à l'église Hallgrimskirkja située à l’extrémité sud de Skólavörðuholti, juste en face de l’intersection avec les rues Eiríksgata et Frakkastígur, au centre de Reykjavík, capitale d’Islande. Une vue à partir de la rue Eiríksgata.
Cette église luthérienne, la plus grande d'Islande, est devenue l'édifice-symbole de Reykjavík. Sa façade blanche rappelle les glaciers. Ses courbes dynamiques imitent les orgues basaltiques d'origine volcanique présents en grand nombre en Islande.
Elle doit son nom au poète et pasteur Hallgrímur Pétursson (1614-74) qui écrivit le célèbre livre d'hymnes "Passion Hymns", un texte majeur dans l'histoire de la littérature islandaise. Dessinée par Gudjón Samúelsson (1887-1950), l'architecte islandais le plus renommé du 20e siècle, elle fut construite à partir de 1946 et a ouvert progressivement de 1974 à 1986. Du haut de la flèche-fusée (73 m), visible à 20 km à la ronde, la vue sur la capitale est superbe.
Taken back in May, and to be honest, I've no idea as to what it was, not a clue, but the points of light were extremely tiny. Definitely a macro, just wish I could remember 'a macro of what'!

MLC Centre architecture cannot be overlooked. With elegantly contoured, stark white concrete, white quartz and glass, the façade presents itself as a handsomely moulded sculpture.
Harry Seidler AC QBE is a luminary of Australian architecture. Widely considered as the first architect to fully express the Bauhaus aesthetic here. The MLC Centre remains one of his most definitive works on the Sydney Skyline.
244m to antenna and 227m to roof. The MLC Centre was Sydney’s tallest building in Sydney from 1977 to 1992. It is currently the fifth tallest building behind the Meriton World Tower (230m), Deutsche Bank Place (240m), Citigroup Centre (243m) and Chifley Tower (244m). The tallest structure in Sydney is still the Sydney Tower at 309m.
Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Director John Ford used the location for a number of his best-known films, and thus, in the words of critic Keith Phipps, "its 13 square kilometers have defined what decades of moviegoers think of when they imagine the American West." Between 1945 and 1967, the southern extent of the Monument Upwarp was mined for uranium, which occurs in scattered areas of the Shinarump Conglomerate; vanadium and copper are associated with uranium in some deposits.
Buckfast Abbey forms part of an active Benedictine monastery at Buckfast, near Buckfastleigh, Devon. Buckfast has been home to an abbey since 1018. The first Benedictine abbey was followed by a Savignac (later Cistercian) abbey constructed on the site of the current abbey in 1134. The monastery was surrendered for dissolution in 1539, with the monastic buildings stripped and left as ruins, before being finally demolished. The former abbey site was used as a quarry, and later became home to a Gothic mansion house.
In 1882 the site was purchased by a group of French Benedictine monks, who refounded a monastery on the site, dedicated to Saint Mary. New monastic buildings and a temporary church were constructed incorporating the existing Gothic house. Work on a new abbey church, which was constructed mostly on the footprint of the former Cistercian abbey, started in 1907. The church was consecrated in 1932 but not completed until 1938.
Buckfast was formally reinstated as an Abbey in 1902, and the first abbot of the new institution, Boniface Natter, was blessed in 1903. The abbey continues to operate as a Benedictine foundation today.

Das Haldenereignis Emscherblick, kurz Tetraeder, ist eine begehbare Aussichtsterrasse in Form einer dreiseitigen Pyramide auf der Halde Beckstraße im Bottroper Stadtteil Batenbrock. Die Stahlkonstruktion mit einer Seitenlänge von 60 m ruht auf vier 9 m hohen Betonpfeilern und befindet sich auf der Kuppe der ca. 120 m über NN hohen Halde an der Beckstraße.[1] Die Halde hat eine Prominenz von etwa 90 Metern zum Umgebungsniveau. Bei klarer Sicht kann man das Wahrzeichen der Stadt Bottrop vom Essener Hauptbahnhof aus erkennen. So wie andere Ruhrgebietshalden ist der Tetraeder Teil der Route der Industriekultur.
Die Konstruktion besteht aus 210 Tonnen Stahl und Rohren mit einer Gesamtlänge von 1500 m. Sie ruht auf vier Stahlbetonsäulen, so dass sie vom Boden abgesetzt ist und besonders nachts, wenn der Tetraeder leuchtet, einen schwebenden Eindruck macht. Der Düsseldorfer Künstler Jürgen LIT Fischer gestaltete die Lichtskulptur Fraktal an der Spitze des Tetraeders. Die Kuppe der Halde wurde nach einem Entwurf von Wolfgang Christ als linsenförmige Vertiefung modelliert, so dass die Industrie- und Stadtlandschaft des nördlichen Ruhrgebietes vom Mittelpunkt der Senke nicht mehr sichtbar ist.
If you are familiar with the flowering tree called a dogwood, you might be surprised to learn this fact. What you are looking at is the true flower on a dogwood tree. The white petals of the dogwood flower are actually leaf-like growths called bracts rather than true petals. The actual flowers are in the cluster at the center of the dogwood bloom.

Valley of Fire State Park is a public recreation and nature preservation area covering nearly 46,000 acres (19,000 ha) located 16 miles (26 km) south of Overton, Nevada. The state park derives its name from red sandstone formations, the Aztec Sandstone, which formed from shifting sand dunes 150 million years ago. These features, which are the centerpiece of the park's attractions, often appear to be on fire when reflecting the sun's rays.[5] It is Nevada's oldest state park, as commemorated with Nevada Historical Marker #150. It was designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1968.
Valley of Fire is located 50 miles (80 km) northeast of Las Vegas.
