Tilya-Kori-Madrasa forms together with two other madrasahs the world famous Registan in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. It was built 1646-1660 and while in Ulugh Bek you find many souvenir shops, here you find resplendent fairytale ceiling work.
Zusammen mit zwei weiteren Medresen gehört Tilya-Kori-Madrasa zum weltberühmten Registan in Samarkand, Usbekistan. Sie wurde in den Jahren 1646 bis 1660 erbaut. Während in Ulugh Bek viele kleine Souvenirläden zu finden sind, findet man hier farbenfrohe prächtige Deckenkunst, die einen an Märchen erinnert.
Esta pequeña plaza medieval se encuentra en pleno centro de Pontevedra, presidida por la original Capela da Virxe Peregrina, con su planta en forma de vieira, que alberga la imagen de la patrona.
Encrucijada de varias calles y que como nota curiosa alberga la figura del loro Ravachol, propiedad del farmacéutico Perfecto Feijoo, que vivió en la botica que se encontraba en ese lugar.
Vivió en Pontevedra entre 1891 y 1913 y está considerado el loro más famoso del mundo, ya que fue conocido y querido por toda la ciudad por su carisma, simpatía y carácter alborotador y personalidad rebelde.
El simpático animal identificaba algunas situaciones para aplicar sus frases, casi siempre en gallego, que pronto se hicieron populares como (“se collo a vara” “vaite de ahí lambón” “aquí non se fía” …).
Los clientes le regalaban caramelos y golosinas para no recibir ninguna de sus dedicatorias.
Sus insultos llegaron a personas tan importantes como la escritora Emilia Pardo Bazán.
También llegó a decir alguna de sus inapropiadas frases en plena misa, e incluso fue elegido para actuar en el teatro, pero el indisciplinado loro dijo lo que quiso y pronto lo retiraron de escena.
Se dice que la causa de su muerte fue un empacho de bizcochos mojados en vino.
Los pontevedreses quedaron realmente afectados por la mala noticia y decidieron organizar una calurosa despedida para decir adiós a un referente de la ciudad.
A Don Perfecto le llegaron telegramas de toda la geografía española para dar el pésame por su enorme pérdida y también le instalaron una capilla ardiente en la propia farmacia.
Actualmente se recrea el velatorio y entierro del Loro Ravachol en el carnaval de la ciudad, celebración que cierra la semana del carnaval pontevedrés.

Formado por 2.711 bloques de hormigón de diferentes alturas, el Monumento al Holocausto de Berlín es una joya arquitectónica construida en memoria de los judíos asesinados en Europa que recuerda uno de los episodios más oscuros de la humanidad.
Edificado en las cercanías de la Puerta de Brandenburgo entre los años 2003 y 2005, el monumento en memoria de los judíos asesinados en Europa pretende enfrentarse a la noción de monumento en sí misma. La traducción literal del nombre alemán es "Monumento memorial a los judíos asesinados en Europa".
Se trata de una cuadrícula formada por 2.711 bloques de hormigón de diferentes alturas, que permite que los visitantes elijan su camino de entrada y salida como si se tratara de un laberinto.

Although I don’t ride a bike, well not at least for 40 odd years, there is something satisfying about a bike. It’s solid, reliable (mainly), an art form, it has a place in our society, an environmental champion, a pleasure and a serious competitor.
There aren’t many things in life that fulfil those criteria, there will always be those detractors but for me the bike is a hero.

A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun.

The Steinhuder Meer in Lower Saxony is the largest lake in northwestern Germany with an area of 29.12 km² (that's 11.24 sq mi for the "imperialists"). It is a shallow lake with a maximum depth of 2.9 metres, formed after the recession of the glaciers of the Weichselian glaciation, about 14,000 years ago.

The tower features in total 11 spheres in various sizes. The biggest sphere is 50 meters in diameter with an open air observation deck 90 meters above ground level.

Pyramid Lake is a reservoir formed by Pyramid Dam on Piru Creek in the eastern San Emigdio Mountains, near Castaic, Southern California. It is a part of the West Branch California Aqueduct, which is a part of the California State Water Project. Its water is fed by the system after being pumped up from the San Joaquin Valley and through the Tehachapi Mountains.
In 1843, gold was discovered near what is now Pyramid Lake, in the Santa Feliciana Canyon, just south of what is now Pyramid Dam. The small find failed to trigger a rush to the mountainous countryside. Only Francisco Lopes, owner of Rancho Temescal, a Mexican land grant, and a handful of ranchers attempted to settle the region.
This lake was created in 1972, and completed in 1973, as a holding reservoir for the California State Water Project. The lake was named after a pyramid-shaped rock carved out by engineers building U.S. Route 99. Travelers between Los Angeles and Bakersfield christened the landmark “Pyramid Rock,” which still stands just adjacent to the dam.
Pyramid Lake is the deepest lake in the California Water Project system, built up along the steep canyon walls surrounding Piru Creek.
The 180,000 acre⋅ft (220,000,000 m3) reservoir lies on the border between the Angeles National Forest and the Los Padres National Forest, in the northwestern portion of Los Angeles County. It is to the west of Interstate 5 (I-5) south of Tejon Pass. The former alignment of US 99 is below the waters here, replaced by I-5.
Pyramid Lake seen from the air with the Pacific Ocean in the distance. Just below the dam, Piru Creek returns to its natural state as it winds down through the Topatopa Mountains to feed into the Lake Piru reservoir and later the Santa Clara River. Pumps carry water from Pyramid Lake to Castaic Lake, which is the terminus of the west branch of the aqueduct. Pyramid and Castaic act as the upper and lower reservoirs for a 1,495-megawatt pumped storage hydroelectric plant.

Le site aurait été aménagé dès le XIIème siècle.
Le château se présente sous la forme d'une enceinte rectangulaire de 60 m de long sur 25 m de large, et d'un donjon carré, qui occupe la partie la plus élevée de la falaise, à l'à-pic. Une seconde enceinte englobe l'ensemble délimitant un espace de 165 m le long de la falaise, sur 45 à 65 m de large. Un fossé taillé dans le roc en retour jusqu'au bord de la falaise, isole le tout de l'arrière pays3.
Au XIIIème et XIVème siècles, le château se compose d'une basse-cour dont le bourg de Montferrand est en prolongement, protégé par un pont-levis dominant des fossés. Une douzaine de familles des sujets du seigneur y résident. C'est dans le château que les sires de Montferrand reçoivent l’hommage de ceux de Thoraise, Torpes et Corcondray, tous les parents de la maison Montferrand. Pour autant, les seigneurs n'y résident pas à l'année : ils habitent Besançon.
L'enceinte du château constituée par une muraille où se dresse encore aujourd'hui le donjon, est alors habitée par un châtelain, un procureur, un receveur, un notaire et une douzaine d'hommes d'armes. En temps de conflit, les hommes d'armes sont secondés par tous les sujets de la seigneurie qui sont tenus de s’y réfugier avec leurs familles et leurs biens, et d’y faire à tour de rôle le guet et la garde de jour comme de nuit pour le moment venu ainsi que de prêter main-forte aux premiers.
En 1654, une visite du château donne une description détaillée des lieux :
le petit bourg composé alors d'une vingtaine de maisons réparties de part et d’autre d’une rue centrale est totalement brûlé sauf une habitation ;
le second bourg compte la grange du seigneur et le four, lui aussi brûlé ;
au château à proprement parler, le donjon ainsi que le logement sont également brûlés, seule la chapelle du milieu est dans un état de conservation convenable.

The female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail butterfly can take two completely different forms. The more common (at least to me) yellow morph with the black tiger stripes, and this beautiful dark morph. This is the first dark one I have seen this summer.
La Santa Iglesia Catedral Basílica de la Santa Cruz y Santa Eulalia (en catalán: Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia) —también llamada, en lugar de catedral, Seo— (en catalán: Seu) es la catedral gótica de Barcelona, sede del Arzobispado de Barcelona, en Cataluña, España.
La catedral actual se construyó durante los siglos XIII a XV sobre la antigua catedral románica, edificada a su vez sobre una iglesia de la época visigoda a la que precedió una basílica paleocristiana, cuyos restos pueden verse en el subsuelo, en el Museo de Historia de la Ciudad. La finalización de la imponente fachada en el mismo estilo, sin embargo, es mucho más moderna (siglo XIX). El edificio es Bien de Interés Cultural y, desde el 2 de noviembre de 1929, Monumento Histórico-Artístico Nacional.
Está dedicada a la Santa Cruz desde el año 599 y se añadió a partir del año 877 a Santa Eulalia,2 patrona de la ciudad de Barcelona (actualmente es más celebrada como tal la Virgen de la Merced que, estrictamente, es patrona de la diócesis de Barcelona, pero no de la ciudad), una joven doncella que, de acuerdo con la tradición católica, sufrió el martirio durante la época romana. Una de tales historias cuenta que fue expuesta desnuda en el foro de la ciudad y que milagrosamente, a mitad de primavera, cayó una nevada que cubrió su desnudez. Las enfurecidas autoridades romanas la metieron en un barril con vidrios rotos, clavos y cuchillos clavados en él y lanzaron cuesta abajo el barril (de acuerdo con la tradición, se trataría de la calle Baixada de Santa Eulàlia, Cuesta de Santa Eulalia). Y así, hasta trece martirios diferentes, uno por cada año de edad de la santa. Finalmente, fue crucificada en una cruz en forma de aspa, que es el emblema de la catedral y la diócesis, así como el atributo iconográfico de la santa.
La catedral cuenta con un claustro gótico en el que viven trece ocas blancas (se cuenta que Eulalia tenía trece años cuando fue ejecutada y que pastoreaba ocas en su predio de Sarrià, cerca de la ciudad).

View form Trail Ridge Road (highest continuous paved road in the US reaching elevation of 12,183 feet), Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Driving on this road is little nerve wrecking, but in the end rewarded by breathtaking scenery. Changing elevation takes you from tree lines to alpine tundra which has very fragile ecosystem. Weather up top is ever changing and highly unpredictable.

Il cinòrrodo è un falso frutto, ossia un frutto derivante da strutture fiorali diverse dall'ovario. Tipico del genere Rosa, deriva dall'ingrossamento del ricettacolo, è carnoso e forma una coppa che contiene gli acheni, i veri frutti di colore giallo o marrone, frammisti a peli. La forma, il colore e le dimensioni dei cinorrodi delle diverse specie varia molto: possono essere verdi, arancioni, rossi e quasi neri o blu; possono avere forma allungata o sferica ed essere ricoperti o meno da sottili aculei.
Con i cinorrodi della Rosa canina, molto ricchi di vitamina C, si prepara una confettura ed in Slovenia viene prodotta una bibita analcolica, la Cockta.
