The kitchen is very white - and plain. And I don't want to dust fake foliage - which is what most put up there. So I settled on cookbooks. (Even though I will have to get the stepladder out to reach them - now they are decoration as well as food for thought.)

When we remodeled our kitchen last year, we asked Bob to build bookshelves on the dining room side of the peninsula. It's perfect for storing and displaying our cookbooks, and I don't have to run down to the family room every time I want to look for recipes.

Found a few more books via eBay:

Ida Bailey Allen's Cookbook - c.1948

Ann Pillsbury's Baking Book - c.1951

The Duncan Hines Dessert Book - c.1955

Also picked up a Royal Worcester egg coddler/jam jar for 40 cents!

Rice cakes are pan roasted so they're crispy on the outside but still chewy. The sauce has roasted onions that I burnt a little but it still worked.

By Colby and Megan Garrelts, with Bonjwing Lee.

Can't express how proud I am of our dearest Ulterior Epicure's latest project. Bluestem, The Cookbook is a beautiful set filled with some great works and incredible sounding/looking plates. (To date I have not yet made it out to MO. I know! :P) Unlike most "coffee table ready" cookbooks that look great on the pages, the majority of the recipes here are quite achievable. I'm very much looking forward to tagging the pages and trying the dishes out in my humble little kitchen, but also to seriously admire dear Bonjwing's incredible photography (it's incredible to see those behind the scenes shots come to life). So very proud. :)
