Dad, what the heck is wrong with the world?

"You would have to be much more specific, Clancy."

See, that's what I mean.

"There's nothing to worry about as far as you're concerned."

But I feel it, Dad, and it makes me sad and anxious.

"I'm sorry for that."

I should be doing something about it.

"You are, 24 hours a day. You bring 100% positive energy to the world, and if all humans would do the same, the world would be a lot better off."

You mean I'm doing as much or more than all humanity to help the world?

"Exactly."

Wow. Well then, let's get going and spread some more of that good energy!

I've been a bit preoccupied with other things lately and haven't shot a lot of portraiture. However, I thought I'd try a couple of self portraits yesterday incorporating the use of my newly acquired Sekonic L-758DR. Using the light meter I'm better able to nail exposure in a shorter amount of time.

Throughout this exercise I started thinking about shadows. My typical portrait style has revolved around minimizing shadows and slightly overexposing skin tones. But the more I shoot, the more I realize that carefully crafting the appearance and location of shadows can help create a fantastic, albeit moody image. That's why I'm going to start focusing more on shadows and how they help craft a captivating image.

This tiny Yellow-banded Dart, sitting on a big Amaryllis bud ready to open, seemed to be in deep thought, as it remained there for quite some time.

The amount of street art of various types in Cairns is mind boggling but you would have to live there for a considerable time to search it out and see all of it. Much stretches out into the suburbs and adjacent townships.

This one is called "If we lose the reef, we lose ourselves" by Claire Foxton on Grafton Street in the city. It is a portrait of indigenous elder, community leader and activist, Henrietta Marrie.

Perhaps I should have cropped out the extension of the building on the left, but ah well, it kind of aids, perspective!
