It's a dream world where a girl can enjoy her spare time reading a book in a beautiful place. She doesn't need a Smartphone!
Last Sunday, I found myself with a new Prius, a half tank of gas, and the promise of no moon until 2 AM, so I had all of the incentive I needed to head back out to Joshua Tree National Park. The problem was...no one bothered to tell me that the campsites in Joshua Tree National Park are CLOSED between June and August each year as no one in their right mind is going to want to camp in 115 degree heat over the Summer.
So I arrived at the White Tank campground and found the gates locked and there were no campers to be found. It took all of my nerve to keep walking with my flashlight back to Arch Rock through the giant bolders, looming like silent sentinels on either side of me as I crept through the empty campground in the dark.
Fortunately, it wasn't too long before I noticed another flashlight and two more photographers came around the corner looking for arch rock. We struck up a conversation and they agreed to let me hang out with them as we all began to shoot the Milky Way.
By around 10:30, two of us had set up at Arch rock as the Milky Way was already beginning to emerge over the arch. We took turns shooting from one of the best spots, and eventually, I
moved further down to try to get a better angle of the brightest spot of the Milky Way off to the South. As I looked up and composed my shot, I noticed that Kohei (a photographer who was visiting from Vancouver) was silhouetted against the night sky and quickly grabbed a shot before he moved to a different location. I love this shot as it really captures the wide eyed wonder that all four of us experienced that night as we stared into that incredible night sky.
The light toward the bottom of the frame is coming from the South, most likely from Indio.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Lock down for a street and social documentary photographer in the vulnerable category is tough, I hope that you are enjoying my archive of unpublished shots and differing subjects. Wishing you all the very best weekend that you can in these difficult times. Enjoy!

A visitor perched on a ledge likely contemplates the sheer vastness of the Grand Canyon. And not once did he reach for his cell phone.

In the heart of the Moonlite forest, a fire demon sat on a light purple moonbeam, its flames flickering softly in the cool night air. The towering trees around it glowed under the moon’s pale light, their leaves whispering ancient secrets. For once, the demon’s fiery aura didn’t scorch its surroundings. Instead, it stared into the dark, contemplating the vastness of the night sky. There was a stillness here, a peace that contrasted with the inferno within. The demon wondered, in its rare quiet moment, if there was more to existence than destruction—perhaps even beauty in restraint.
Until now, the only one of my images where I appear in the frame. View of Cradle Mountain and Boat Shed from Dove Lake during sunrise, Tasmania, Australia.
The bulls get most of the attention during the elk rut, but I enjoy watching and photographing the cows and calves too. The calves seem mostly unfazed by all the craziness around them, only scurrying away from any danger when a bull gets too close.
This youngster calmly contemplates its next nibble of willows.
I may take another day away from Flickr tomorrow for a day trip to our local National Wildlife Refuge. Reports of many swans and eagles are to tempting to ignore.
