Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton was the one who asked why!!

In 1853 Thomas Petty arrived in Australia from England and selected land in the Doncaster and Templestowe area. It was Thomas Pettys' grandson, Thomas Henry, who, in 1911, first bought the property that is located at Homestead Road, nestled along the Yarra River.

Thomas Henry was the first of three generations of Pettys to work the Homestead Road orchard. The Petty Family managed the orchard until Parks Victoria purchased the property in 1981.

The orchards that once covered the Doncaster and Templestowe area are fast disappearing. The Heritage Fruit Society manages and maintains the heritage fruit collection in Petty's Orchard. We are part of a world wide network which is conserving antique apple varieties and protecting them from extinction.

Pettys Orchard uniquely encompasses an antique apple orchard, commercial orchard, wetlands and bird hide. Its 44 hectares includes approximately two hectares of Demonstration Orchard and 25 hectares of Commercial Orchard. The remaining area includes the wetland, fruit and nut arboretum, Yarra River and surroundings. The heritage collection grows, displays and distributes more than 200 different types of old and rare apples.

I'm not sure if this is an apple for the piano teacher I never had, the one capable of seeing that this boy in 1966 (?) would have put up with hours of fundamentals just to learn a little rock'n'roll, or to the teacher that boy got, the one who deplored The Beatles but still managed to teach him quite a bit in the 6 months he let her try.

nothing to say, it's an apple.

I worked out the angles of the apples for one quarter of the circle, grouped them, duplicated the group and then flipped them horizontally or vertically and moved them into their new position. Made things a lot faster than doing each one individually. :-)

As always, thoughtful feedback, constructive criticisms, and suggestions are always appreciated. As always, I have used tools at my disposal to interpret the original raw file. Use of this photo without permission is not permitted.

Lufthansa & apples havent been the sweetest of things lately.

Neither the one you can eat, nor the one you tag on your baggage have received good press on social media.

The real one, as part of the "tasting heimat " revamp has been much derided by frequent flies who have described the handing out of these apples after the main meal as a hygene issue. Then there's the Apple airtags, booming in sales recently with all the lost & delayed hold baggage, Lufthansa banning them from their flights because of bluetooth signals affecting aircraft communications.

Nevertheless, this one is....ready to eat.

Photo of glossy Royal Gala apple on white background.

It's not quite perfectly shaped, but the colour is good. Now I belong to the Apple Tree group I'll need to photograph some more.

We've had a busy weekend in the garden, tidying areas of stored items, dead-heading and trimming back shrubs and flowers, daily cleaning and moving of the duckling run around the lawn, clearing out the greenhouse to move it along in order to make room for a bigger shed, and de-weeding all the plants in pots and containers which will now be found new homes and places in the garden. Just got all the necessary items back into the greenhouse after its move, when we had a downpour ... at least it was well timed! So indoors we went and made use of the unexpected indoor time on another of our hobbies, to do the last filter, and bottle some homemade apple wine. We got 16 bottles! The light was natural light through the kitchen window. Today I finished knitting and sewing up a jumper for Merv, got some paperwork sorted and spent time on Flickr. Nearly time for a hot drink and then won't be long before bed time - an early one tonight after several really late ones! Tomorrow I will get the wine labels made and get the bottles labelled up then the wine can mature for an even better taste - it's already delicious! Lockdown hasn't really affected us and we're enjoying getting jobs done that wouldn't normally get done, the weather has been great, and it's nice to be able to sit, relax in the garden with a tea/coffee and watch/listen to the birds, sometimes with a camera to hand! As they say, it's nice to stop and smell the roses now and again!

Testing my Cannon Rebel T3 with some apples. No photo editing done. Need to play around with shutter speed/Fstop.

That f1.4 thing is really working out! ;-)

I love apples! I love this granny strainer that I found at Eco Thrift for a dollar. I like this still life in the kitchen. Tomorrow I'll eat an apple for breakfast, with peanut butter and put some lemon in my iced tea. Tonight they are perfect.

I am not able to count how old was the tree, but I am sure - it has seen a lot of laughing, new beginnings and endings around him.

I bought myself some fruit today, and thought it'd make a fun photographic diversion....

And it was delicious.

When the ball lands in the Home Run slot in the pinball baseball game, if you're playing as the Mets, the apple pops up in centerfield!
