I photographed a juvenile of this species with my friend, Jon Ruddy of Eastern Ontario Birding, about four years ago. I was pleased to able to get such a clear, close-up shot of an adult of the species to add to my Newfoundland list!

I Lungarni di Pisa, un susseguirsi di ampie strade che corrono nei pressi del fiume Arno. Sono caratterizzati da antichi palazzi e case dai colori pastello su un lato e da muri in pietra e mattoni (chiamati spallette) sull'altra sponda.
The Lungarni of Pisa, a succession of wide streets that run near the Arno River. They are characterized by ancient palaces and pastel-coloured houses on one side and by stone and brick walls (called spallette in Italian) on the other shore.
Insediamento etrusco, città romana, porto commerciale medievale, potente Repubblica Marinara, acerrimo nemico di Firenze, magnifica città nobiliare nel 17° secolo, città ospitante molti artisti nel 19° secolo, rinomata città universitaria in questi ultimi secoli e sede di alcune delle più prestigiose accademie del mondo: queste poche righe rendono evidente come Pisa sia sicuramente molto di più di un campanile, anche se molto bello.
Nel Medioevo, Pisa era un porto molto vivace e un ricco centro commerciale. Una flotta di navi Pisane partecipò alla prima Crociata e all’assedio di Gerusalemme del 1099. Inoltre, fu una delle quattro Repubbliche Marinare (oltre a Genova, Venezia e Amalfi), che combatterono tra loro per il controllo del Mar Mediterraneo. Questo è stato un periodo di vittorie e di ricchezza per la città, che aveva colonie e basi commerciali in tutto le coste del Mediterraneo e ed era temuta e rispettata. Dopo diversi secoli gloriosi, nel 13° secolo, Pisa ha iniziò a veder diminuire il suo potere e ricchezza. I conflitti con un'altra Repubblica marinara di Genova, provocarono una pessima sconfitta nella battaglia della Meloria (1268), che segnò l'inizio della perdita di influenza come potenza marittima. Etruscan settlement, Roman city, a medieval commercial harbour, a powerful Maritime Republic, a bitter enemy of Florence, a magnificent noble city in the 17th century, a host town for many artists in the 19th century, an excellent University town in the last few centuries and home to some of the most prestigious Academies in the world: these few lines make it evident that Pisa is definitely much more than a bell tower, albeit a very beautiful one.
In the Early Middle Ages, Pisa was a very lively port and a rich commercial centre. A Pisan fleet participated in the First Crusade and the Pisans were instrumental in the siege of Jerusalem in 1099. Moreover, it was one of the four Maritime Republics (the other three were Genoa, Venice and Amalfi), which fought each other for control of the Mediterranean Sea. This was a period of victories and wealth for the city, which had colonies and commercial basis all over the Mediterranean coasts and was feared and respected. After several glorious centuries, Pisa started to decline in power and wealth in the 13th century. The conflicts with another Maritime Republic, Genoa, resulted in a very bad defeat in the battle of the Meloria (1268), which signaled the beginning of the loss of influence as a maritime power. In the same period, the conflicts with the Guelph cities in Tuscany began, along with serious internal struggles for the control of the city. During the 14th century, Pisa continued to suffer battles and revolts. The date that all Pisans remember is the October 9th 1406, when the hated Florentine army entered the city and Pisa was placed under the rule of Florence where it remained until the creation of the Italian state in 1861.

The Turkana are a Nilotic people native to the Turkana County in northwest Kenya, a semi-arid climate region bordering Lake Turkana in the east.
The Turkana people call themselves ŋiTurkana (The Turkana). The name means the people of Turkan. They are mainly semi-nomadic pastoralists.
The Turkana are noted for raising camels and weaving baskets. In their oral traditions, they designate themselves the people of the grey bull, after the Zebu, the domestication of which played an important role in their history.
This lovely Turkana lady, wearing her full traditional regelia was photographed on a visit to the remote village of Riokomor, in northern Turkana, Kenya.

Strickanleitung
Dieser Pullover wird in zwei Teilen gestrickt (inkl. Ärmel und Rückseite). Dazu unten links gemäss Strickprobe entsprechende Maschen Anschlagen und gerade hoch stricken bis zum Beginn des Ärmels.
Entsprechend der Armlänge Maschen Anschlagen und gerade weiter stricken.
Für den Halsausschnitt entsprechend die Maschen Abketten und auf der Rückseite wieder Anschlagen. Alles gerade weiter stricken bis der Ärmel auf der Rückseite die gleiche Breite hat wie auf der Vorderseite. Dann die Maschen für den Ärmel Abketten und die halbe Rückseite bis zur gleichen Länge wie die Vorderseite fertig stricken, Abketten.
Die rechte Seite wird wegen des Ärmels gegengleich gestrickt.
Am Ende die beiden Teile vorne in der Mitte und hinten in der Mitte, plus die Seiten bis zum Ärmel und den Ärmel auf der Unterseite zusammennähen.
Fertig ist das gute Stück. Der Pullover kann in einer Farbe oder mit einem Farbwechsel gestrickt werden.
Sollte er mal zu Eng werden, kann man entweder auf den Seiten ein Stück einsetzen, oder einfacher, die Mittelnaht öffnen und dort ein entsprechendes Stück einstricken.

Knitting instructions
This sweater is knitted in two parts (including sleeves and back). To do this, cast on corresponding stitches at the bottom left according to the knitting sample and knit straight up to the beginning of the sleeve.
Cast on stitches according to sleeve length and continue straight.
For the neckline, cast off the stitches and cast on again on the reverse side. Continue knitting until the sleeve has the same width on the back as on the front. Then cast off the stitches for the sleeve and finish half of the back side to the same length as the front side, cast off.
The right side is knitted in the opposite direction because of the sleeve.
In the end, sew the two pieces together in the center front and center back, plus the sides up to the sleeve and the sleeve on the bottom.
Finished is the good piece. The sweater can be knitted in one color or with a color change.
Should it ever become too tight, you can either insert a piece on the sides, or easier, open the center seam and knit an appropriate piece there.

Instrucciones para tejer
Este jersey está tejido en dos partes (incluyendo las mangas y la espalda). Para ello, se deben tejer los puntos correspondientes en la parte inferior izquierda según la muestra de tejido y tejer en línea recta hasta el comienzo de la manga.
Dar puntadas según el largo de la manga y seguir recto.
Para el escote, se desprenden los puntos y se vuelve a tejer en la espalda. Continúe tejiendo hasta que la manga tenga el mismo ancho en la parte trasera que en la delantera. A continuación, se desprenden los puntos de la manga y se termina la mitad de la espalda con la misma longitud que la parte delantera y se desprende.
El lado derecho se teje en sentido contrario debido a la manga.
Al final, coser las dos piezas juntas en el centro de la parte delantera y en el centro de la parte trasera, además de los lados hasta la manga y la manga en la parte inferior.
El acabado es la pieza buena. El jersey puede tejerse en un solo color o con un cambio de color.
Si queda demasiado apretado, puedes insertar una pieza en los lados o, más sencillamente, abrir la costura del medio y tejer allí una pieza adecuada.

Construction of the new El Portal underpass will soon allow pedestrians, surfers, swimmers, (and photographers) to walk below the railroad tracks to access Stone Steps Beach on the Pacific Ocean in Encinitas, California. This rail has been marked with paint as 100 feet north of the proposed underpass. They load stones a little too high and then run this machine down the track to even them out. Left, well Reinforced Concrete Tower of Pit n°19 designed to extract 6000tons net/day, last example of the technical peak. Located at the top of the tower, the machine, with its two motors of one power unit of 4400 horsepower, allows to raise from the bottom the 4*4-stage cages containing each a sedan of 3,000 liters. Its operation is automated and insured by some employees while up to 5,000 miners work underground from the various pits focused on this site. Nearby, to the right, the older pit n°11.

HMAS SYDNEY was sunk with all hands (645) by a German Raider HSK Kormoran, on 19 November 1941. The remains of the ship remained a mystery for nearly 70 years being located only in 2008. The floor of the pool bears the latitude and longitude of its position.

The loss of HMAS Sydney (II) is Australia’s greatest naval tragedy. Its disappearance in 1941 without a trace left a legacy of uncertainty for decades. In March 2008, renewed efforts to find the Sydney came to fruition, confirming her fate and bringing closure to the mystery.
Celebrated for her successful battles in the Mediterranean, where she famously sank the Italian cruiser Bartolomeo Colleoni, HMAS Sydney (II) and her crew of predominantly young men received a hero’s welcome on her return to Australia in February 1941. She was then tasked with escorting troopships to South East Asia, following an Indian Ocean route along the west coast of Western Australia.
It was on the return of one of these voyages that she encountered the German Raider HSK Kormoran, on 19 November 1941. The Kormoran was disguised as a Dutch merchant vessel that was seemingly incompetent at returning the Sydney's signals, unaware, the Sydney approached the unknown vessel. Once within range where her superior armament could not advantageously defend her, the Komoran used the advantage of surprise and brought all its armament to bear on the Sydney.

RFO rijdt 3 x per week een GEFCO autotrein van het PSA Concern (Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Vauxhall en DS Autombiles) komende uit de fabrieken in Kolin (Tsjechië) en Trnava (Slowakije) naar Zeebrugge (B) vice versa - de auto's zijn bestemd voor de Engelse markt.
Niet alle treinen komen leeg terug na het lossen in Zeebrugge maar nemen ook regelmatig auto's weer mee terug. Meestal zijn deze treinen alleen beladen op het bovendek - deze keer was de eerste helft op het bovendek beladen en de laatste helft geheel beladen.
De RFO 1830 is in oranje livery gestoken met aan 1 zijde op neus een Marokkaanse snor volgens gebruik door ONCF en aan de andere zijde Portugese schrikstrepen zoals vervoerder CP ze voerde - ik vind het wel een geslaagd ontwerp , terug te voeren op de inzet van deze origineel Franse "Nez cassés" locomotieven in Portugal en Marokko.
RFO 1830 (Portugese schrikstrepen voor) komt door het weiland Teuge met aan de haak een GEFCO dubbeldeks autotrein op weg naar Deventer en eindstation Bad Bentheim (D) - van daar wordt de trein door een andere vervoerder naar de plaats van bestemming gebracht.

RFO runs 3 times a week a GEFCO car train of the PSA Concern (Peugeot, Citroën, Opel and Vauxhall and DS Autombiles) from the factories in Kolin (Czech Republic) and Trnava (Slovakia) to Zeebrugge (B) vice versa - the cars are intended for the British market.
Not all trains return empty after unloading in Zeebrugge, some take cars back with them. Usually these trains are only loaded on the top deck - this time the first half was loaded on the top deck and the last half fully loaded.
The RFO 1830 wears orange livery with a Moroccan mustache on one side on the nose - according to use by ONCF Morocco - and on the other side Portuguese stripes - as used by carrier CP. I think it is a successful design, which can be traced back to the use of the original French "Nez cassés" locomotives in Portugal and Morocco.
RFO 1830 passes (Portugese stripes on front) Teuge trough the meadows hauling a loaded GEFCO double-deck car train on its way to Deventer and on to Bad Bentheim (D). From there the dubbeldeks car wagons will be transoported by another operator to the final destination.
