I have to be honest. I'm totally IN LOVE with this photo
My Roses. I am NOT a gardener, nor am I any good at it. So my roses that I bought myself for Mother's Day (not this past Mother's Day - but the one before).. the fact that they're not only ALIVE but THRIVING.. makes me VERY PROUD!
They kind of remind me of myself, if I think about it...
They're just set there - in the middle of a garden - that isn't too great to begin with. (I'm not that great of a gardener, like I said). And when all of the other plants around them are fading .. these roses are standing tall. My little rose plant, is turning into a small rose bush. It's spreading out... and blooming. Against ALL ODDS- this little plant is thriving.. happily.. and blossoming so beautifully. And everyone notices, and admires. Although, they don't quite realize how hard that rose has had to work- to get to where she is today. Like myself.
I love my little rose bush.
And I love this photograph.
And I love myself.
I love my life. I love my struggles. I love my pain. I love who I have grown to become and who I am striving to be. I am proud of myself every single day, and so grateful. And I write these things, because I need people to KNOW & UNDERSTAND that THIS IS POSSIBLE! Recovery is possible. Changing your life around IS possible. And it's such an amazing feeling and accomplishment. It doesn't mean that it's easy breezy.. because it's not. But it's definitely worth it. Even on the worst days.. it's far better than the best day in addiction.
Today I get to choose HOW I cope with my struggles. I can cope with them ANY WAY I want, as long as I don't pick up. I can cry, I can laugh thru my tears.. I can write it down, I can talk it out... but however I choose to deal with my feelings (I just don't use) and I'm just that much stronger thru the struggle.
November 15th, 2021 will be 3 years. 3 years without one sip of alcohol, one drug.. anything. To me- that is the biggest deal - you could ever imagine.
But even more than that... The life I've built for myself in the process... I'm so grateful for.
The relationship that I've built with God.. The love for myself that I've discovered..
I'm just grateful.

One of a few interesting buildings on Commercial Drive at a prominent corner, 1704 East 1st Avenue.
Hmmm, Red Burrito with a yellow sign.
Built in 1910 by H.D. Crawford, and designed by architect W.F. Gardiner, this is a commercial and residential building at the center of what is locally known as “The Drive” in the Grandview-Woodlands area.
Crawford, a prominent architect at the time, lived in the building in 1910 when Commercial Drive was known as Park Drive.
By 1911, the building began to house several commercial establishments such as Winchcombe & Fisher fruits, and Grand View Meat Market, as well as apartments.
William Frederick Gardiner (1884-1951) was a prominent architect in Vancouver.

MOSSDALE was built in 1876 by the Shropshire Union Railway & Canal Company, Chester.
She is believed to be the only remaining wooden Mersey Flat in the world and was towed by horses or tugs.
Her hull was carvel construction of oak, elm and pitch pine and she traded between Ellesmere Port and Liverpool. Originally known as “Ruby” she was renamed “Mossdale” when bought by Abel & Son in the 1930’s.
They extensively rebuilt and deepened her to obtain maximum load for minimum displacement.
The vessel was restored during the early days of the then Ellesmere Port Boat Museum. Unfortunately, lack of maintenance resulted in the MOSSDALE and several other craft sinking in the dock.
The Boat Museum is now run by the Canal and River Trust and has been rebranded as the National Waterways Museum.
In 2016 MOSSDALE along with other sunken vessels were raised from the dock and restoration will begin again.

W 2021 roku rozbiórce poddano kolejny komin w największej krajowej Koksowni w Zdzieszowicach. Procesem likwidacji objęto komin baterii koksowniczej nr 3 w IV kwartale mijającego roku. Wcześniej rozebrano także bliźniaczy komin baterii koksowniczej nr 4, którego stan techniczny motywował szybszą rozbiórkę. Niestety rozbiórka kominów baterii nr 3 i nr 4 powoduje, że powoli do przeszłości przechodzi najbardziej imponujący krajobraz koksowniczy w Europie, reprezentowany niegdyś przez 15 kominów dominujących w zdzieszowickim krajobrazie (12 kominów opalania baterii koksowniczych oraz 3 kominy dwóch zakładów energetycznych). Pamiętam jeszcze ten widok ale już bez kominów baterii nr 1 i nr 2, które rozebrano najwcześniej. Zdzieszowicka Koksownia rozważa modernizację zakładowej Elektrociepłowni, które może się wiązać także z likwidacją najwyższego komina w Koksowni i jego zastąpienie nowym obiektem, który jednak będzie znacznie niższy. Obecny komin ma 180 metrów natomiast wysokość jego ewentualnego następcy szacuję na około 120 metrów.
Z kronikarskiego obowiązku warto nadmienić jeszcze pozostałe projekty inwestycyjne rozpoczęte w 2021 roku w krajowych koksowniach:
- modernizację sortowni koksu w Wałbrzyskie Zakłady Koksownicze "Victoria" S.A.,
- modernizację instalacji odpylającej wielkokomorowej baterii koksowniczej WK1 oraz budowa kolumny desorpcyjnej i instalacji wody amoniakalnej w Koksowni Huty im. Tadeusza Sendzimira.

Heavy snow plowing equipment in the Watergraafsmeer on the Middenweg. The blizzard Darcy did its job this day and paralyzed the whole country. For the first time in some years serious Winter weather in the Netherlands.

Watergraafsmeer
The Watergraafsmeer is a polder in the Netherlands. It was reclaimed in 1629. In the 17th and 18th centuries, there were many buitenplaatsen in the Watergraafsmeer, though nowadays only one, Frankendael, remains.
Since 1921, the Watergraafsmeer is part of the city of Amsterdam and its rural character has all but disappeared. It is located in the borough of Amsterdam-Oost. The most important streets in the Watergraafsmeer are the Middenweg and the Kruislaan.

Railtraxx is sinds begin maart 2018 naast Lineas een belangrijke speler op de Athus-Meuse geworden. Op vraag van de klant in Athus werden er enkele weken testtreinen ingelegd tussen de Antwerpse bundel Krommenhoek en het zuidelijk gelegen Athus. Deze werden bij aanvang gereden door een koppel 6400'en... De hellingrijke Athus-Meuse deed de groene diesels keer op keer sleuren, en onverwacht vielen de locs tijdens de testperiode weinig in panne. Ondertussen is de TCA-trafiek een groot succes geworden en wordt deze nu met een koppel 186'ers gereden. Een nieuwe vaste waarde tussen Antwerpen en Athus! Dit verklaart ook waarom de locomotieven die gereserveerd zijn voor deze trafiek, niet vaak stilstaan.
Gedurende enkele weekends tijdens de maanden februari en maart 2021 waren er elektrificatiewerken in de bundel van Athus. Bijgevolg was de bundel buitenspanning gesteld, wat ervoor zorgde dat de bundel enkel toegankelijk was voor verkeer van dieseltreinen. Treinen moeten blijven rijden, en dus vond Railtraxx een oplossing. De trein reed gedurende de dergelijke werken met dubbele 186 van Antwerpen tot Bertrix tijdens vrijdagnacht. Van daaruit nam een class 66 het telkens over tot eindpunt Bertrix via Libramont en Arlon. Hierdoor was er weer goederenverkeer mogelijk op lijn 162, wat wij echt zalig vonden! De heen- en terugrit tussen Bertrix en Athus werd telkens in 2 delen gesplitst, wat betekende dat er gedurende de werken elke zaterdag 4 keer een class 66-locomotief te fotograferen was.

Het weekend van 27 en 28 maart was het treinverkeer tussen Antwerpen-Noord en Antwerpen-Berchem onderbroken. Dit betekende dat treinen van en naar de Antwerpse haven moesten omrijden via Gent, een heuse omtoer dus! Zaterdag 27 maart zou het zonnig worden vanaf de middag, dus sprak ik af met goede collega Noach om in de namiddag de omgeleide goederentreinen te fotograferen. Uiteindelijk is het maar bij een plan gebleven. Dichte mist en veel bewolking deed zowel Noach als ik niet tot Gent komen. Out of the blue kwam er een geniaal plan van collega Bram uit de bus. Het was zonnig in het uiterste zuiden in België, en Railtraxx zou rijden vanuit Bertrix. Hij passeerde het mooie Overijse en pikte me een klein uur later al op. Weer een groot uur later waren we op de eerste plek aangekomen, waar we even later naar onze mening de eerste knaller konden fotograferen. Voor de tweede (en laatste) rit met class 66 werd er naar Houdemont gereden. We dachten dat het fout zou lopen met de wolken, dus reden we verder op zoek naar eventuele betere plekken waar meer kans op zon zou zijn. De wolken verdwenen gelukkig en losten zowaar op. Hierdoor gingen we toch maar naar onze originele plek en snoeiden we nog wat bij voordat Railtraxx zou doorkomen. Het snoeien en wachten werd na een kwartier beloond, en gelukkig liet ook deze keer de zon zich van zijn mooiste kant zien! Nadien werden er nog wat IC-treinen op foto gezet en nog de terugkerende Railtraxx 186'ers. Deze gingen namelijk weer terug van Bertrix naar Antwerpen, met de class 66 achteraan de sleep. Hoewel we maar 3 cargo's hadden, waren we toch hel erg blij met de unieke foto's!

De 266 024 doorkruist het Waalse dorpje Houdemont met zijn volgeladen containertrein richting eindstation Bertrix. Deze locomotief was voordien ook wel gekend als de groene Ascendos PB 20. Een class 66 van Railtraxx op de Athus Meuse is nog al voorgevallen, daar Railtraxx enkele treinen met knikketels van en naar Virton heeft gereden vorige zomer.

1 december 2021 reed een containertrein naar de Sloehaven. Opzich geen rare gebeurtenis, aangezien de Nosta dit wekelijks doet, maar de belading was erg opmerkelijk: de trein bestond volledig uit Innofreight / Arcelor Mittal wagens op felrode containerdraagwagens. Helaas zat ik in quarantaine en kon ik de rit niet vastleggen, en ook de rest van de ritten ontglipten mij een tijdlang aangezien deze telkens in het donker reden. Echter na een tijdje begon de trein een uur of drie eerder te rijden en ook met het langer worden van de dagen kon ik 26 januari eindelijk een rit vastleggen, echter wel met een hoop ruis. Een goede foto moest nog komen dus.
28 februari begon de voorjaarsvakantie en kon ik wat tijd vrijmaken om met Colin per fiets het uiterste puntje van de haven op te zoeken om de bediening van OVET Vlissingen vast te leggen. Na een lange maar prima te doen fietstocht kwamen we eindelijk aan en gelukkig was de installatie al bezig met het vullen van de trein. Het was dus wachten totdat dit proces klaar was en de trein omgelopen was. Dit zou niet langer dan een uurtje moeten duren, dachten we... Echter was dit niet het geval en door een hoop vertraging en gewacht waarvan de reden mij niet bekend was duurde het nog een tijd voordat de trein ons passeerde.
Gelukkig scheen de zon en aan zee is het wachten goed te verdragen. Toch zijn de fotografen maar al te blij als om 14:36 eindelijk DBC 6424 met een vers-gevulde Innofreight-trein langskomt onderweg naar het basisemplacement van de Ritthemse/Vlissingse/Nieuwdorpse haven. Later op de dag zullen twee 189'ers de trein verder naar Saarhölzbach rijden.
