Keepsake Mill

Over the borders, a sin without pardon,

Breaking the branches and crawling below,

Out through the breach in the wall of the garden,

Down by the banks of the river we go.

Here is a mill with the humming of thunder,

Here is the weir with the wonder of foam,

Here is the sluice with the race running under--

Marvellous places, though handy to home!

Sounds of the village grow stiller and stiller,

Stiller the note of the birds on the hill;

Dusty and dim are the eyes of the miller,

Deaf are his ears with the moil of the mill.

Years may go by, and the wheel in the river

Wheel as it wheels for us, children, to-day,

Wheel and keep roaring and foaming for ever

Long after all of the boys are away.

Home for the Indies and home from the ocean,

Heroes and soldiers we all will come home;

Still we shall find the old mill wheel in motion,

Turning and churning that river to foam.

You with the bean that I gave when we quarrelled,

I with your marble of Saturday last,

Honoured and old and all gaily apparelled,

Here we shall meet and remember the past.

You may be wondering how I wrote that without any footprints around :)

“There are several ways to react to being lost. One is to panic: this was usually Valentina's first impulse. Another is to abandon yourself to lostness, to allow the fact that you've misplaced yourself to change the way you experience the world.” - Audrey Niffenegger

Ageing Without Clause

Harbouring few views is the one you see, your loungeroom furniture threadbare like the lawn you

look out at, your tilting naval-ship wallpaper as disorientating as the pale ceiling-ed sky, those masts

and chimney stacks background behind the wire

baskets that hold your things, the knickknacks and souvenirs, the incidentals so that you wonder if your weeping eye can unstick its barnacle gaze, smelted against a crystal-love that has surely disturbed the rain. You listen for the shrill call of plovers, sigh as you

fight against long seconds, your children teetering

in you like a shiver, their incandescent selves glowing like a hologram. And pillow-hardened, tooth-ground,

you don’t speak of wanting—when once you would

have mentioned so much now there’s nothing you

know, except that uncertainty parades, pure and unmitigated, swirling at your feet.

As some of you know. I have been without a camera for some time now... each time I would think I was going to choose that next baby. A financial obstacle would always get in the way.

Awhile ago... a fellow Flickr friend made an incredibly generous offer to give me his old camera to use. Free of charge, no strings attached... at the time, I had politely declined. The offer alone was enough to bring a tear to my eyes.

"You are a sweetie Brent"

I eventually decided to take him up on this wonderful offer... the camera arrived this past weekend. (and) I have a series of shots I did Sunday that I will post this week.

But first, I wanted to start my new Flickr life with a few photos featuring the camera itself... some of you may recognize it. Please check out his photostream. Brent and the rest of the gang in Winnipeg are quite special people.

As for my financial situation... things are much smoother now and I even have a camera I've been thinking about. But, right now, more than anything, I want to thank Brent for making it possible for me to get an early start on this.

I can do without the pictures, but I REALLY want conversations in books! Reading these quotes again just now reminded me what a magical event it was to read Alice in Wonderland and other stories in my childhood. Thanks for the reminder, OxfordGirl!

Well Mum, Day 10 without you. I asked the photographer to do a portrait shot showing me in all my magnificence. You know Mum, I can be very aristocratic looking when I want to be. I have made so many Flickr friends who have confirmed for me what I already know: I'm gorgeous, no doubt about it!

Well, sometimes we find on our African pictures comments from people who doubt about our African activity. This is a reasonable reaction, that's why we decided to post some clarification directly on the pictures for all those who can pass through here. Of course all comments are well accepted and we will be glad to answer to all of you. This is part of our work.

We thank all people who comment our shots with our big cats with these kind of notes:

What many people don't realize is that once fully grown up those lions go to the canned hunting industry

www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/jun/03/canned-huntin...

_____________________________________________

This information can be very useful for people who are not aware about this big sad "industry". Just to let you know, we work in this center since 4 years and I can assure you that all our animals growing here will then be released in a safe area where no farms, no hunters, no shoots will be allowed except for Photo shooting. After so many years in Africa we are enough well informed about this kind of industry and , of course, we would not work and spend all our energies and money for such a market. Our aim is just conservation and breeding program. I could write papers and papers, but it t would be much easier for everybody to have a look in internet at our center : Mukuni Big 5 Safaris

www.mukunibig5.co.zm/volunteerp/

Many other information can be found just typing the name of the center or our names in internet, Facebook etc..

Here in Flickr we have many friends and contacts and they know very well that what we do for these animals is just focused to the safeguard of nature and wildlife.

Further to this, we also have deep information about other centers created for the canned hunting industry. It's not easy to fight them, the governments of many states support this business. But we do what we can through information and some other ways .

Al people interested, are very welcome to join us as volunteering or just for a visit during a possible trip in the area.

Thanks however for your comment which allowed us to give some more information to people .

If you look at each rain drop carefully (enlarge the image) and turn your head side way, you will see United States map. Took this photo after a rain stopped. No touch or man made, every thing from this photo is real and all natural.

A couple of hounds from the Cambridge University Draghounds. "Drag hunting (also spelled draghunting) is a form of hunting with hounds, and dates to the early 19th century. A pack of hounds (usually foxhounds or beagles) hunt a scent that has been laid (dragged) over a course with a defined beginning and end, before the day's hunting. The scent, usually a combination of aniseed oils and possibly animal meats or urine, is dragged along the terrain for distances usually of 10 or more miles." (Wikipedia).

I recently returned from a 5 day trip to the Tetons where I spent most of the time with Chip Phillips and a couple days with Kevin McNeal as well. The weather did not give us great conditions everyday but I did come home with a few keepers. It was quite unseasonably cool including one sunrise where we encountered snow flakes when leaving our tents. I said I wanted more winter like weather a few weeks back so I guess this was a case of be careful of what you ask for.

This was our first evening in the park. This is Jenny Lake and she is not often this calm at sunset but was for us on this night. This was a last miunte scramble since we had just arrived before sunset. I had shot a few setups and none really worked. Then I came across this branch and it was the perfect FG element. I took this image when I found it and then realized I needed to move it to get the mountain peak reflection in the shot. Well that did not happen. I could not get the stick placed just how I wanted it before the light was gone. As it was this was a 25 second expsoure. I kept the cool blue tones since it was a cold evening and no warm colors in the sky.

Most common rendition of the classic Walter Teague-designed Texaco stations without canopy over pump island. Texaco built thousands of these stations between 1937 and 1960, with modified versions of this design continued until 1966, when Texaco adopted the "Matawan" design featuring mansard roofing, exterior stone facing and service bays mounted to the side of the station.
