Miyajima island is where the Floating Torii is found. The famous 16 metre tall torii is the eighth from the period of Heian, and was constructed in 1875.
The torii of Itsukushima Shrine is one of Japan's most popular tourist attractions, and the view of the gate in front of the island's Mount Misen is classified as one of the Three Best Views of Japan.
The gate only appears to be floating at high tide; when the tide is low, the gate is surrounded by mud and can be accessed on foot from the island.

I would liken you
To a night without stars

I would liken you
To a sleep without dreams
Were it not for your songs.

Not sure how this has happened, the lens must have been at a particular angle to the sun to create so many starbursts. Captured here with a Canon 20D camera on 23/9/2007

Where would I be without my craft stash...that would be an idea for my next 100 x challenge ;) Just had to quickly grab a few bits and get todays photo out of the way...I mean I carefully planned and took ages over this ;) Our new grandson is coming home today, such an exciting time so there will be very little time for Flickr (or anything else) for a while...I will try to stop by when I can and may just have to hit the fave button for a while. I will try to keep up with challenges though.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

If you look at each rain drop carefully (enlarge the image) and turn your head side way, you will see United States map. Took this photo after a rain stopped. No touch or man made, every thing from this photo is real and all natural.
“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”

confession: just in case you didn't notice it yet, I'm abasolutley methereopathic and I hate rain and black clouds. bad weather make me go depressed and insane, so keep away from me when it's rainy. I bite.

Without a doubt my favourite animal at Jimmy's Farm and Wildlife Park is the Armadillo! Armadillo is Spanish for 'little armoured ones'!
The Six-banded Armadillo (Euphractus sexcinctus) is the third largest species of armadillo in the world. On average, an adult measures 40cm long and has a tail two-thirds this length. They are distinguished by their pointed and flattened heads, which are covered by large plates arranged in a distinctive pattern. Their body consists of 6 moveable bands (hence their name), which are covered with thin grey-brown hair.
Six-banded armadillos have very poor eyesight, relying on their keen sense of smell to detect prey and predators. The six-banded armadillo is mostly diurnal so they are active during the day. Unlike other species of armadillo, the six-banded armadillo cannot roll into a ball, so they avoid their predators by fleeing into a nearby burrow, they are fantastic diggers!
Six-banded armadillos are found throughout Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Suriname and Uruguay in South America. They can be found in various habitats, from grassland to rainforest, but they are mainly found on open plains.

"Without remorse, sorrow, or regret
God has preformed another glorious sunset"
~ Michael Edward Peadro
It requires no special place to shoot good pictures. And sunsets don’t recognize any particular region in this planet to expose their exquisiteness. The signatures of beauty are myriad as any one sunset possesses own idiosyncratic mannerism – happens only once – distinctive and unique.
This sunset was captured at my place in Saujana Utama as I was about to reach home that evening. Thought the colors in the sky were extraordinarily gorgeous when I drove past the main boulevard in the area, not too far from the newly-built mosque.
Owing to my habit of pulling over at an unlikely place, I made do with the mucky landing ground on the grass and managed to have it captured before the sun disappeared. And it didn’t bother me much for having to send my car to carwash as all fours were mud-splattered.
Oh yeah, thanks to the neighbors for honking, I take it as a moral support.
The World Without Us
Part 3
So much went into this shot that I don't even know where to begin with explaining the editing process. Essentially I just used composite after composite, using a variety of brushes and blending modes to get everything just right.
I decided to go in a slightly different direction with this shot compared to the previous two, and used less Urban Exploration composites and used more texture layers. The birds, hanging light, and some of the debris on the Peace Tower are UrbEx composites, the rest is various composites of greenery, rust, and peeling paint.
The most difficult part of this project at the moment is that it is currently winter in Ottawa, and while I do have an idea or two for a winter decay photo, I have a very limited supply of potential composites for a winter shot. As soon as the snow melts, I'll get out and start taking more general street photos.
Denali sailing towards the finish line of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race without a boom - they've got an emergency mainsail set up that reminds me of a 1980's windsurfer sail. They have lost a lot of time as according to news reports they've had this set up for a large part of the race - but at least they didn't retire. They are also at the front end of the fleet, so they've done very well under what is probably challenging conditions.
Another shot without tripod. I took this one on the same night as the last one in the stream (so still boozy and bleary eyed!) but this one is looking down the Magnificent Mile to the North - heading back to our hotel late at night.
I put the camera against the wall on the left to get this shot of the beautiful Old Water Tower - more info on that to follow - and the impressive John Hancock Centre topped with pink lights. Shame the sky is so dark but it was very late I guess. Again, no editing required on this one. I love my new camera :-)
