A bronze sculpture in bronze of a warrior of the Greek hoplite type with an Attic helmet, cuirass and lance, and a woman dressed in Greek style in chiton and himation and an offering in her hand.

Dated to around 430 B.C. and found in the Northern necropolis at the Etruscan town of Kainua (today's Marzabotto, Italy).

At the museum at the site of Kainua (where they are still excavating). The label was not so informative as to try to guess if it was a Greek import or an Italic production.

This is a portrait without much information - actually without any information, but where the personality of the sitter shines through very clearly.

I do not know who this woman is, I do not know the name of the photographer nor do I know where this photo was taken. There is absolutely nothing printed or written on it.

But perhaps I lied a bit when I said there is no information. You can deduce some. I bought it on an online auction in Sweden, so it is reasonable to assume this woman to be Swedish (most old portraits I own has been bought in country of origin). The date is likely early to mid 1860s - based on both her fashion, and the simplicity of the card itself which by the end of the decade were getting much more ornate.

The woman herself must have been well off - by the end of the 19th century and in the early 20th going to the photographer were something most people did, perhaps not often and most likely as something quite special, but they did it. And every little town had at least one photo studio (and many more than that), But this is much earlier when it would have been much more expensive and much less common. But all the same, look at her hand. That is the hand of someone who is using them for work - tanned and coarse. No wedding ring though, so probably not married. The dress itself is in tune with the fashion of the time, but strict and with no extra frills. At the same time she is wearing jewelery - both a brooch and a couple of necklaces. If I were to guess, I would say she is the daughter of a well-to-do but still hard-working farmer.

Still without my computer! I've been playing with my phone trying to get the hang of taking photos with it as I don't want to miss out on the weekly theme in 52 in 2016.

These are pansies waiting to be planted in my garden they have been rained on!

Without visual references to compare its size, it's difficult to say if this is a real lighthouse or a model. What do you think, is it real?

Without Mo's intervention and processing I'd come home with nothing. This the first effort with the a9+RedCat 51.

Sun partly reflected in the lake.... and the violet is real - I took it as it came out of the scanner, so WB not manipulated.

Due to popular demand, this time without the watermark :-)

It feels like a lifetime,

A thousand days have passed by

Since I held you close to me

If I could see that smile from my friend

I know that I could live again

I need you here with me

Heaven knows what to say

Even though for right

Nw you're so far away

I hope and I pray

Somewhere in your heart I'll always stay

Girl, lately my sun doesn't shine without you

Never noticed what it feels like to be without you

Feels like I took my last step

And my last breath in my life ending

Had to say just what I was feeling, girl

'Cause my sun doesn't shine,

Sun doesn't shine without you

Have A Great Day My Friends.

A picture of a watch without anything else is at worst an image of someone else’s art and at best can be a showcase for the photographer’s expertise at exposure and composition. This image has more meaning to me than you may grasp at first glance so I’ll complete the story here. SPOILER ALERT: It’s a bit long so if you’d like to skip it ... that’s Okay. Just remember to enjoy Today.

The title may attract the attention of a few people already familiar with the acronym. More later ... I purchased the timepiece pictured some 50 or more years ago and it has always been a disappointment ... it still looks almost pristine! It’s promise was that it was self-winding, that is by some engineering magic once it was wound and put on my wrist it somehow was supposed to stay wound enough to keep “good time”. Well, here’s the basic truth; if I wind it up and let it lay on the shelf it will keep perfect time until it runs down in a couple of days. If put it on my wrist it will randomly stop for 5 or 10 minutes at a time from the first hour on ... making it functionally useless!

In the mid-80s after a life changing event I learned that I can only live One Day at a Time (ODaaT). I realized this independent worthless timepiece is in fact a constant reminder that I only have today ... yesterday is history and tomorrow is not yet in play.

It has no other numbers than today’s calendar number and day ... today ... if I keep it wound. My every attempt to use it for my purposes by wearing it ... my actions ... screws up it’s basic time keeping function so if I let go and let it do it’s thing on the shelf all works just fine. I’m some 16 years into retirement and I removed my “working” watch the day I retired ... I know where time is being kept and I can freely live TODAY. If you got this far Happy Macro Monday ... and enjoy today. HMM Everyone.

Made it to EXPLORE !

Shoni & her new doggy Emma

Shoni really loves animals and has been wanting a puppy or any kind of animal for that matter since forever so she is SO Happy now that she has Emma !

Look at that SMILE !!!

Miss Emma was abandoned in our neighborhood by her owners that moved away

So Chris has decided we should adopt her !!

Emma is the most perfect , quiet , peaceful dog I've ever seen

Half the time you dont even notice she is there - she is just that quiet & still

And I'm not a huge fan of dogs but she has won me over by far

She's gentle & sweet

and even lets you bathe her with NO problems - she just stand perfectly still until she's all clean

I especially love that she is super protective of Shoni

Here's another photo that I captured recently of some spotlit redwood trees.

I've been actively taking landscape photos for over 2-dozen years now, and I can say (without a shadow of doubt) that forest photography is one of the most challenging sub-genres of landscape photography that I've ever attempted. After walking the trails of the Knysna forest with my camera for the past five years, I feel that I'm only now starting to get to grips with the subject matter.

So how do we go about capturing interesting photos in a forest? Here are my top-10 tips for taking better photos in any natural forest...

1) Take Your Time

There's no rush to go anywhere. There is so much to see in a forest that if you walk the trails at a regular walking pace, you're likely to miss at least 90% of the interesting stuff. But you don't want to be looking around you while walking. Keep your eyes on the path when you're moving, stopping every few metres to look for interesting stuff.

2) Finding The Most Interesting Stuff

Based on my walks and experiences in the Knysna forest, I can confirm that everything here always looks amazing. You could point your camera in any direction at any time of the day or night, and still capture a photo that captures the essence of the forest. But I feel that every photo needs at least one primary subject, usually the most interesting thing, and always the reason why you stopped to take the photo. If we can't figure out why you took your photo, then it will most likely be a boring photo to most people.

3) Shooting Small Stuff Is Easier Than Capturing Grand Scenes

I seldom (if ever) use my ultra-wide angle lens in the forest. It simply captures too much. Zooming in on the small stuff (or using a macro lens) helps us to exclude everything except the most interesting stuff (why you took the photo), with as few distractions as possible.

4) Composition Is (Still) King

All the compositional rules apply with forest photography, namely... simplicity, balance, rule of thirds, leading lines, etc., etc. The most important consideration is that everyone should always immediately understand why you took your photo. Although I feel that it's acceptable for me to remove some dead twigs and branches to remove the most obvious distractions, I will never damage any living plant, tree, mushroom, etc.

5) Light Is Everything

No photo would be possible without light. You'll never get pink light in a forest, so the dawn and dusk hours so appreciated by most landscape photographers will generally not produce better photos here. Early morning dappled light is the most magical, but it is also the most difficult to accurately capture. Misty conditions are the easiest to capture, followed by overcast conditions. If you're doing macro or close-up photography, it's often better to block the sunlight and use artificial light instead (torch) to illuminate your primary subject.

6) Try To Exclude The Sky

The sky will always be the brightest part of any forest photo. Correctly exposing for the shadow areas of the forest floor, the sky will always be much too bright for most cameras to accurately capture. The sky also adds zero visual interest on misty or overcast days, so I recommend to try and exclude it from your compositions whenever possible.

7) Getting Perfect Exposures

Most of us would agree that pure black shadows with perfectly exposed highlights are more visually pleasing than the other way round. With forest photography, it is critical to expose for the highlights, making sure that nothing is overexposed. Bracketing (taking multiple differently exposed photos) and blending might be an option on perfectly windless days, but with the billions of leaves fluttering with just the tiniest of a breeze, this is usually not an option. Always shoot in RAW, and ALWAYS use your camera's histogram to ensure that you don't blow out any highlights.

8) Always Use A Tripod

Although I might be able to capture acceptably sharp photos in a forest when hand-holding my camera, that would always require a compromise to my ideal aperture and ISO. While tripods will always tend to slow us down when we're composing our photos, they do allow us to use slower shutter speeds, and also to carefully tweak our compositions until they're as strong as possible.

9) Post-processing Skills Required

Unless you're taking your photos in misty or overcast conditions, it's unlikely that your camera will be able to accurately capture the full dynamic range of your scenes. This is where your post-processing skills can make the difference between a nice photo and an amazing photo. YouTube is still free, and there are thousands of video tutorials out there that you could watch to hone your editing skills. Understanding "luminosity masking" should be a top priority if you want to improve your forest photography.

10) Continue To Challenge Yourself

If forest photography was easy, I probably wouldn't be doing it. What's the point of only doing the things that you're already good at? The more difficult something is, the fewer other people will be doing it well. I would rather be the only photographer capturing mediocre images of the most challenging subjects, than to always try and capture the best-ever images of all the most photographed subjects.

That's it. My top-10 tips. If you can think of anything that I've missed which might help someone to take better photos in a forest, then please feel free to comment below.

No one likes to photograph it ... they are ugly, unpleasant, bad with all the other birds .. but in my opinion they have their charm .. and then the fact that it is difficult to photograph them because of their color makes me even more interesting But with a bunch of cookies it was simpler ..

(If I had full frame it would be easier)

DO NOT TAKE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!!! I MADE THIS!!! I am SO PROUD of her. I am also SO HAPPY!! YAY DEMI!!! Ok so she has OFFICIALLY been SIGNED!!!
