When Brüni takes a walk with me, she gets silly with happiness and turns into a clown.
Wenn Brüni mit mir Spazieren geht, wird sie vor Freude albern und wird zum Clown.
When I first moved here to the Pacific Northwest, I met this old man that would always look up with his hands outstretched. He would say, "Isn't it wonderful". Back then, I didn't really get the message. As I have lived here longer, I have come to appreciate the beauty in the sky, especially the morning and the evenings! :)
In a few days I will be traveling down to Southern Utah and Arizona. I am looking forward to photographing the great Southwest. It will be a very big change from the Pacific Northwest. Can't wait for the challenge! :)
I will be away from flickr for awhile, but I will catch up with your photo streams when I get back. :)
Linus loves to be high up and watch over HIS kingdom (Cleo and Fynn think he is megalomaniac). I guess it's also nice to be closer to the birds that way. :)

The wind is usually between NW and SW here. When there is extreme weather on the Atlantic, we have these kind of skies here a week later.

QUANDO SCALAMMO LA MONTAGNA DEL SERPENTE
Cercando stabili appigli
per le mie mani
tocco la calda roccia
e scalando sento la montagna.
Qui, da qualche parte,
su una pietra al sole,
dorme il serpente giallo maculato.
Fate attenzione,
dico agli altri,
a non calpestare il giallo serpente maculato,
esso vive qua.
La montagna gli appartiene.

WHEN WE CLIMBED SNAKE MOUNTAIN
Looking for stable footholds
for my hands
I touch the warm rock
and while climbing I feel the mountain.
Here, somewhere,
on a stone in the sun,
the spotted yellow snake sleeps.
Be careful,
I tell others,
not to step on the yellow spotted snake,
it lives here.
The mountain belongs to him.

When I saw how orange the moon was as a result of the smoky sky, I stepped onto the back stoop and took a hand-held shot. With modern editing aids, it turned out surprisingly well.

I was supposed to go to the dentist for a cleaning eight months ago. I didn't.
Then I broke a tooth.
The dentist knows me very well. He knows I only call when there is an emergency. I think he must have my name penciled in, just in case, because he always fits me in.
What is most awesome is that I endured the visit sans Novocaine. What up, bitches?

When you live in Venice, you get to see the city before the hustle and bustle begins if you get up early enough.
When I was growing up and would always go out railfanning with my dad, we would usually hit up BNSF's coal line northeast of Denver (Brush Sub) or the UP line to Cheyenne (Greeley Sub). Visiting the Brush Sub was always a favorite because we both loved coal trains and today I still do. Power at the time was mostly SD70MACs with an occasional AC4400CW. As time progressed on, power slowly became more GEVO and SD70ACe dominant with the occasional SD70MAC. Yesterday, I was out in Northeastern Colorado looking for storms, which nothing really initiated as forecasted. However, after arriving back into Sterling, I noticed an outbound crew getting onto a loaded coal train led by a solid set of Heritage II painted SD70MACs. I already knew I had to chase this back west into the late afternoon/evening sun. Chasing this lash-up certainly brought back some memories.
After waiting for an eastbound to get onto the Akron Sub, BNSF SD70MAC No. 8963 leads this westbound loaded coal train out of Brush, Colorado, into the evening setting sun on August 14, 2019.
When I Was A Tourist In Thailand, I Took A Bus Trip And Was Seated Next To The Most Gorgeous Girl I'd Ever Laid Eyes On. Perfect Boobs Almost Spilling Out Of Her Top, Perfect Legs, With A Gorgeous Face. The Bus Had Small Seats And She Was Pushed Right Up Next To Me. I Kept Thinking To Myself, "Don't Get An Erection, Don't Get An Erection"...But She Did.
When the day is overcast it seems like the perfect opportunity to try my hand at monochrome photography.
When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs.
When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.

To make someone feel, make someone relate, make someone think - this is the beauty of it all. Making some sort of an impact has and always will be my purpose in why I take photographs.
I believe as photographers, we all have a story to tell of why or how we got into photography.
2006.
A year that dramatically altered my perspective on life and the spark that ignited my passion for photography.
It was during that year, two people who meant the world to me passed away 8 months apart from each other. Never had I anticipated experiencing death at such a rapid rate. Emotional turmoil took over and depression became a part of me. I was no longer the same person, I was filled with denial, pain and sadness. I felt numb to the world and every person in it. I was in a constant battle with my emotions, not knowing where to turn for support in such a difficult time.
For months I had obsessively been glancing at sites that contained photography from Deviant Art photographers. With every picture that came across my eye while scrolling down the pages, a lightning bolt of questions and curiosity struck me: “How can someone capture something so beautiful in such a short amount of time?” The fact that each photograph was unique and held a different view fascinated me. I quickly aspired to experiment with taking pictures. Due to such a powerful curiosity, I'm sure you can imagine the delight that filled me when I got my first camera - a Canon Powershot - as a present for Christmas. Little did I know that what I first deemed as an “experiment” would within time turn into an escape, a passion that would heal me greatly.
I began to feel the world looked so much more beautiful when I looked at it through a camera's viewfinder. Every day I would be out in my backyard taking photographs, and in those moments capturing what surrounded me, I didn't feel pain. I didn't feel sadness. I didn't feel numb - I felt peace. Taking photographs made me rediscover who I was as a person. My camera became my greatest friend who knew all my secrets and witnessed me metamorphosis.
It's hard to believe it's been 3 years.
Being a part of Flickr has been such an uplifting experience for me.
Three years ago, I never would have imagined gaining such inspiration, support and friendship from so many extraordinary people. For that and so much more, I am forever grateful.
Photography is a true saving grace.
When I can witness moments like these, just before sunrise, I experience them in every fibre of my being.
Pastel and watercolour on 140 lb. Arches cold press.
This was a watercolour painting I did about 8 years ago. It was rather wishy washy, and so I decided to brighten it up with livelier watercolour and soft pastel. The composition has not improved, but the flowers have more life to them. I will compare them to the real thing when ours bloom in the garden in July.
... without any doubt you'll automatically get one of two results ... a friend for life or a lesson for live ...
Shocked and saddened by the sad news of the earthquake centered in Chengdu, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of our Chinese daughter, from Chengdu. Nine years ago, we dodged disaster when the top 50 feet of a rotten Doug Fir gave way and fell on our family during a hike, Liu Yang, (aka "Janet") then 16, suffered only a small gash in her head. Here she is comforted by my wife, Kathleen, as they sit amidst the tree debris in the Salmon River, awaiting the arrival of rescue workers. Fate is arbitrary and capricous. That tree could have crushed us all, or it could have stayed put up in the forest canopy. Only Janet, Jack and Sadie the dog were along the river bank when the tree fell--other dawdlers had stopped on the trail for a rest break. Jack and Sadie jumped away and the big limbs and branches fell all around Janet, missing her mostly, and leaving only a small wound that required just a few stitches. Conclusions? Hard to come by. Except that for any of us, at any time, death can come in an instant. But if it isn't time for your number to come up, you're good to go, through almost anything.
One of my very first Fuji Color slides taken with my then new Asahi Pentax Spotmatic with the f/1.8 lens in the summer of 1966.
Scanned recently with the Plustek 8200i revealing a bad case of the Black Measles on the slide that I have almost completely eradicated with some dedicated spotting.
One more from our visit at Dyreværnet's shelter. This time Bastian and me shot by my wife Lene.
Today is the day we will be bringing him home, so forgive me for not spending much time on Flickr. :)

“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”

When shadows rise and night comes it is good to remember that new light and a fresh start come in the morning!
Grand Teton as seen from Teton Valley, Idaho in evening light.
When we were out looking for sandwiches, we passed Gnarlybot, from the Gromit Unleashed 3 charity art trail in Bristol. Gnarlybot is inspired by the 1980s skateboarding films and skate graphics, apparently.
When we first moved into this home there was this boot on the back deck with clover in it. I called it the garden boot and figured it was some kind of lucky charm. It's 21 years later and still is holding up to all the weather. A well made boot!! Timberland boots for the win!
Thank you all for following my photo stream! I wish all of you a happy and healthy new year full of exciting moments and wonderful imagery.
