We came across this common black hawk whilst out on the Tarcoles River. he wasn't bothered at all about our presence and let us float very close to him whilst he had a big drink in the midday heat.

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. A lesson on how to stand out like a 'tourist' in the city. Enjoy!
When I started messing around with some combos for this figure, it originally had an ops core helmet, then I switched it to the ballistic visor and I was going to make him as a Spetsnaz figure, then I remembered the G36 mod that I had and I saw some GSG9 pics and thought I'd do that instead.
This really isn't supposed to be accurate, as I would have probably reversed the colour scheme and had a black base with green vest etc, but I still like the look of it. Maybe I will make a reverse version and go with some "polizei" decals as well ; )
When I was a child, my mother collected these arrow heads fashioned from quartz and similar crystals. They eventually were part of my inheritance but, being smaller than a coin, I lost them and just found them last week looking for wrapping paper in the closet.
We were allowed to examine them but one rule was to handle with care because they are sharp (first letter of my name).
I pointed them in opposite directions so one of these things is not like the others, backlit them with one strobe and used a second at 45-degrees to light the front.
If you look closely, especially near the edges, you can spot a few tiny bubbles in the stones and notice that the one at the upper left has stripes.
Good thing that anything goes for the Macro Mondays "redux" theme.
Strobist:
Arrow heads are lying on a Stofen omnibounce on mounted to a 600EX-II RT pointed up. Front lighting is from a 430EX-III RT at approximately 45-degrees at camera left.

When you walk into the spare room and someone has set up a photo for you without even knowing it. Another day done.

I took this last Saturday at Nanven beach in the Cot Valley. It was a really hot sunny day until some cloud appeared in the afternoon. I was considering going to the coast for some shots but wasn't sure with the weather closing in. I looked from the top of a hill above St. Ives due South towards St.Just and saw a lovely light pink on the horizon. After taking some disappointing shots from up there I moved on towards the Cot valley. The wind was blowing the clouds away slightly and I was banking on the fact that there was no cloud right above the horizon giving a strong chance that it would light up the clouds later on.
In the end I rushed down there, found a high tide which is a bit annoying as it covers up the best bit of the beach. After a little while the sun popped out from behind the clouds and turned a gorgeous red. The water had that turquoise glow and the light off the rocks was a joy to behold.
I am happy with this shot and felt a real buzz seeing it on the screen. I had variations but this one just had the edge. I have been trying to get to grips with CS4 and am beginning to warm to its charms. More work to do, but I am understanding what's capable the more I use it. I have got into some of the finer details of processing, although I probably haven't quite got it right on this one. Let me know what you think.

There are times when you wait around for light that never appears or drive miles only to find the sun disappears behind clouds, but on this occasion my plan came together!

When I came home at lunch today a large flock of waxwings were hitting the neighbors ornimental fruit trees.
I'm not sure what the mating habits are but many of the birds were paired off and were feeding each other. So maybe spring will come after all.

Late night fuel, in Flagstaff preparing for the next morning's sessions. That half-gallon jug of local microbrew pilsner came in handy.
When you work so hard all the day long
And everything you do seems to go wrong
Just drop by my place on your way home
Let's go get stoned
Taken at Mt Seymour, North Vancouver BC a few weeks back, I added some pp on it to give it more of a winter flavour. I am wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, enjoy your time with family and or friends this Christmas season.

Like the sound of silence calling,
I hear your voice and suddenly I'm falling,
lost in a dream.
Like the echoes of our souls are meeting,
You say those words, my heart stops beating.
I wonder what it means.
What could it be that comes over me?
At times I can't move.
At times I can hardly breathe.
When you say you love me
The world goes still, so still inside and
When you say you love me,
For a moment, there's no one else alive.

"...Autumn begins with a subtle change in the light,
with skies a deeper blue,
and nights that become suddenly clear and chilled.
The season comes full with the first frost,
the disappearance of migrant birds,
and the harvesting of the season's last crops."
~ Glenn Wolff and Jerry Dennis
Amtrak's Empire Builder was a few minutes into its trip to the Pacific Northwest as it zips across Techny Road back in 2002.
Two P42DCs and a F40PH had a long train full of passengers and mail and express heading through the northern suburbs of Chicagoland.
