Hike into Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness on Loy Canyon near Sedona, Arizona. The trail goes five miles, ascending the Mogollon Rim to meet up with Secret Mountain Trail. We usually hike the two or three miles along the canyon bottom before it ascends. In winter, the upper elevations can be snowy and icy. Photo by Deborah Lee Soltesz, January, 24, 2016.
Beautiful day for a stroll on Robbins Trail in Danville. These tree lined trails make for a cool walk on this hot day. The leaves are starting to fall giving us a glimpse of what Autumn has to bring. We can't wait to revisit this park in a few weeks to see it in the blazing colors of fall.
Trails run approximately 3.9 miles in length. Robbins Trail offers visitors a wide range of options, from secluded trails through meadows, woodlands and wetlands, to organized sports fields. It is also the oldest known rail-to-trail in the U.S. (Old Reading Line).

Fort Kearny was abandoned in 1871 and the land opened to homesteading. Recently the state has acquired the property and reconstructed some of the buildings, forming Fort Kearny State Historical Park.

1st attempt at shooting the North star trails, despite driving into the middle of nowhere and walking to the top of a high peak, I still had problems with that nasty orange British ambient light... think next time ill make sure I take continuous shots so there's no gaps.. but cant resist chimping!

I spent a long, cold hour and 38 minutes by Donner Lake in April to get this shot. The process consisted of continuously taking photos and later combining them to show the the stars moving across the night sky. I also missed five and a half minutes when my camera stopped, creating what looks like a break in the trails. At first I didn’t like this, but the effect is growing on me. Multiple trains passing through gave the foreground an added bonus of a streak of light through the mountain. I’m happy with this first attempt and excited to try it again!
Soldiers Pass Trail
** Soldiers Pass Trail, Sedona, Arizona 2009-03-25: 2009-03-25: For our midweek hike, we decided to hike the lower part of Soldier's Pass Trail. The last time we hiked this trail, we'd started at the end of the jeep trail (i.e., about 1.25 miles north of the official trailhead) to do a loop around Cibola Mittens, and hiked by all the interesting spots in the dark. This time, we started at the official trailhead.
We hiked the lower part of Soldiers Pass Trail, visiting Devil's Kitchen sinkhole and the Seven Sacred Pools. Not far from where the jeep trail ends, we went off-trail to explore a path that appears to lead to a closer vista of an arch in the cliff wall of Brins Ridge. The path follows a slickrock wash, and appears to eventually lead up to Cibola Mittens. The view of the arch from this trail is pretty good. After eating lunch, we returned the way we came, stopping at Seven Sacred Pools to snap a few shots while it was momentarily tourist-free.
