The plan is currently to demolish this former glove factory at the Bloomingdale Trail's western trailhead at Ridgeway Avenue. The entire building should not be demolished and instead be used to house retail spaces for neighbors and trail users: café, bike shop, and a local non-profit that signs up people for health insurance.

The Trail of Tears is a name given to the relocation and movement of Native American nations from southeastern parts of the United States following the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The removal included many members of the Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek), Seminole, and Choctaw nations, among others in the United States, from their homelands to Indian Territory (eastern sections of the present-day state of Oklahoma). The phrase originated from a description of the removal of the Choctaw Nation in 1831. Many Native Americans suffered from exposure, disease and starvation en route to their destinations. Many died, including 4,000 of the 15,000 relocated Cherokee (source: Wikipedia).

This is NOT an official "trail," and that by hiking here, you do so at your own risk. I did the hike with Jeremy a knowledgeable guide at Kauai Hiking Adventures. Kalepa Ridge hike will take you along the ridge line between Honopu and Kalalau Valley's, offering some of the most incredible views into Kalalau Valley. The panoramic views into Kalalau Valley as you hike out onto the ridge stretching towards Na Pali are simply incredible. The day we did the hike the weather was clear. We began the trail at 10:30 am and finished at 1:30 pm after a lunch at the point with local fruits and many photo stops along the way.
