Sword Fern Trail runs close to houses and apartment buildings so the trail closure is a necessary precaution. So far as I am aware this is the only closure in this part of Pacific Spirit Park

(Nepenthes Rajah Trail, Mesilau Nature Resort)

The Nepenthes Rajah Trails is gated to protect the rare pitcher species and to prevent illegal collecting and pilfering, visitors are not allowed in unless accompanied by an official guide. A fee of RM5 is collected by the Kinabalu Park authority to visit the site.

The Croccy Trail is basically some farmland that some has put a trail of stream crossings, poles and other obstacles. Good fun.

This map shows where the various groups of the Donner Party spent the winter. The Donner family itself wintered in the Alder Creek area at some distance from the main group at Truckee Lake (now called Donner Lake).

I've been reading a book lately so I haven't been posting much on the internet. I would have stayed locked away in my home forever but a group of friends made me go hiking with them on Saturday morning. The ultimate goal was Tadake falls, but the trail is up a small river. Lots of fun, even if it was a little cloudy out.

I finally found out the name of this pond nestled into Wingra Marsh in the UW Arboretum, just off Nakoma Road near the turn into Monroe Street. It's Spring Trail pond, though better known locally as the "Duck Pond." While on the Madison lakes people are ice fishing now, the pond is wide open, partly because it's spring-fed. It's the one time of the year the water is incredibly clear. Later, it gets murky from all the water fowl.

United States Coast Guard equipment of an undetermined nature. It could be real or it could be from a movie set? From the appearance it has been sitting in a fenced area for quite a few years. If real was it ever delivered?

Today was really windy so we walked Ruby in the two nearest woods and then I went on up the Cuckoo Trail to the town to collect our prescriptions and a little bit of shopping. In the woods I made images of some apple blossom and garlic and then along the trail I caught some Blue tits using a nest box and an image of the trail with no one on it.

The Apache Trail to Canyon Lake, was my chosen annual birthday ride. I wanted an epic ride to mark the special occasion.

Between the Berryman Trail head and Edward Beecher Recreation Area. These were fairly typical conditions for this part of the trail.
