Sagrada FamÃlia Temporary Schools
The Sagrada FamÃlia Temporary Schools were built for the local children who were members of the parish of La Sagrada FamÃlia, since after the development of the area in 1860, the number of inhabitants had increased steadily. They were blessed and inaugurated on 15 November 1909 by the bishop of Barcelona, Joan Josep Laguarda.
The ground plan of the building measures 10 × 20 m, with a cement floor. Inside the roof is supported by three pillars and constructed with a brick vault in the shape of a conoid (regulated surface). The walls are done with a double row of bricks and their curvature, also conoid in shape, enables them to support the weight of the roof. The combination of the two curved surfaces makes an extremely rigid and solid structure. This architectural solution has had an enormous effect on 20th century architecture and fired the enthusiasm of more than one architect, like Le Corbusier, who discovered it when he visited Barcelona in 1928 and mentioned it in his memoirs.
Since the beginning the interior has been divided into three classrooms (called the Virgin, the Angel and the Sacred Heart) separated by two partition walls, which explains the plural name "schools" for a single building. Each classroom was intended for a different educational level and the furniture was designed by GaudÃ. Outside there were three courtyards, one per classroom, where the children could play and engage in outdoor activities.
The Schools were burned in July 1936 and the roof caved in. They were rebuilt by Francesc de Paula Quintana, but the following year there was another fire.
In 2002 they were restored and moved slightly aside to leave room for the construction of the main nave of the church. Since then they have been used as an exhibition room explaining their history and the geometries of the Sagrada FamÃlia project.

Scaffolding seems to be another recurring theme for me. It's like being inside a schematic.

The birds and kite-flyer flying a bird-kite are cut in a temporary paper window covering. I put that up for while i'm getting settled so I can have some privacy The birds are holes so curious passers-by can peek through.
When direct light comes through the bird-shaped holes in the paper window coverings, it casts these light-shapes on the adjacent window.
I love how the birds swoop around, flying in always changing spirals as the sun moves across the sky.
During 2 years I took the same bus every day, at the same hour to go to university. So right before entering the highway I used to see this man sitting there, always. This was during autum... but I saw him having a hard time spending winter out there.

This temporary sign meets only two of the golden rules of fried chicken signage, let's hope the finished one will do better.

on the back wall:
in a branchless forest populated with eager dialect, even/especially in these anxious times; these retired branches become crutches when congregated. and so like a bottle rocket flying right through our cutout hearts, let these words be everything we could ever want them to be, and these common fears a makeshift prosthesis to sedate our common phantom limbs.
(and when we can get our heavy hearts to love lightly, this house of cards will become a home.)

After many years of faithful service, our Zojirushi rice cooker finally cooked its last batch of rice. Until we buy a new one, the family will rely on this small, three cup cooker.
Finally got around to moving the old Mac G4 which holds my web photo albums into the closet, out of the way, making room at my desk to get the Mac Pro currently set up on my dinette table moved into the den. Eventually, the Mac Pro will power the new and improved photo server, and this G4 will go bye-bye.
