Viel Geduld war gefragt am 17.06.2014, um einen E-Lok bespannten Erzzug Divrigi - Iskenderun auf der einzigen elektrifizierten Strecke im östlichen Zentralanatolien zu erwischen. Erst im mittäglichen Hochlicht kamen dann endlich TCDD E43033 und E43032 (Toshiba/Tülomsas) bei Avsar mit einem Erzzug in Richtung Hafen.

No platform, no other amenities whatsoever, but it is a station, and the «Aegean Express» from Eskişehir to Basmane (a 10½ hour ride) will stop here in the middle of nowhere. It is the only pair of trains to do so, but still a few people got out here. Everything is there to make it a typically Turkish rural station: the flag, the well-polished signs, and the feral dogs to attack everyone who comes too close.

 

The loco, E68 051 was designed by Hyundai Rotem, who also built the first 8 locos at home in South Korea (in 2013) before licensing construction of the remaining 72 machines to TÜLOMSAŞ in Eskişehir. At 5,000 kW, they can reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h and are primarily (though not exclusively) used in passenger traffic. Ayvacık, 24-03-2022.

In the delightful Aegean Anatolia BR56501 2-10-0 56524 hugs the tight contours after Eşme and onward to Inay upon the morning Alaşehir-Afyon goods.

For the "savety" of our special train a guard partrol escorted us on the east anatolian railway section Erzincan - Erzurum.

The heading engine was a german build (Esslingen) class 59009 a oil fired steam locomotive.

Am Abend des 14.06.2014 rollten einige Güterzüge auf der Hauptstrecke zwischen Kayseri und Ankara, genauer gesagt im östlichen Teil zwischen den Abzweigbahnhöfen Bogazköprü und Irmak. Tagsüber sorgten wohl längere Baupausen für eine entsprechende Zugflaute. TCDD DE33051 hat im entfernt zu sehenden Bahnhof von Kanlica mit ihrem Erzzug einen entgegen kommenden Güterzug gekreuzt und beschleunigt nun westwärts.

The following day sees E68 028 once again calling at Gölbaşi as it returns South on the 08.30 Elazig - Adana 'Firat Ekspresi'.

Former War Department No.348 and latterly Turkish State Railways (TCDD) No.45160 Stanier '8F' class 2-8-0 No.8274 raising steam on shed at Ruddington on the Great Central Railway (Nottingham) on Saturday 10th June 2017. Built by the North British Locomotive Company works in 1941 (Works No.24648) and allocated the LMS number 8274 (which it never carried at the time), it was allocated War Department No.348 and was shipped to the continent as part of the war effort. It was repatriated to the UK in 1989 by the Churchill 8F Group and is on temporary loan to the GCR(N).

Nahezu jeden Morgen gegen 06-07:00 Uhr verlässt ein Güterzug Elazığ in Richtung Tatvan. Der Zug hat auch Waggons mit der Bestimmung Iran im Zugverband, die in Tatvan über den Van-See mit einer Fähre trajektiert werden. So auch am 20.08.2024 als der Zug bei İçme am Ufer des Keban Baraji (Stausee des Murat) fotografiert werden konnte, angeführt von TCDD DE 33014 (Tülomsaş/EMD) und nachgeschoben von den beiden DE 24219 und 24304 (Tülomsaş/MTE) als Schiebeloks.

  

Almost every morning around 06-07:00 a freight train leaves Elazığ in the direction of Tatvan with wagons in the direction of Iran, which are routed in Tatvan via Lake Van with a ferry. This was also the case on August 20, 2024, when the train was photographed near İçme on the banks of the Keban Baraji (Murat reservoir), with TCDD DE 33014 (Tülomsaş/EMD) in front and DE 24219 plus 24304 (Tülomsaş/MTE) at the end of the train as helper locomotives.

Krupp built 2-10-2 57026 takes on water at Afyon loco depot. This loco is now preserved at Çamlık Museum, hopefully looking better than it does here.

Having arrived on Train no.1162 from Afyon, Turkish Railways (TCDD) 2-10-0 56523 was coaled, turned and watered at Alaşehir, in western Turkey, on 1 April 1984.

 

56523 was built by Maschienenbau und Bahnbedarf AG of Berlin (formerly Orenstein & Koppel) in 1943.

In october 1978 we chased sugarbeet trains. We rode to Izmir, of course via Uşak where trains changed locos. Between Uşak and Izmir doubleheading was common on the long mixed trains.

In het Europese deel van Turkije staat diesellocomotief DE 24 418 van de Turkse Staatsspoorwegen met trein D 1293 (Istanbul Express, München - Istanbul) gereed voor vertrek naar het eindstation. Vanuit München werd de route via Villach-Jesenice-Ljubljana-Zagreb-Beograd-Nis-Sofia-Svilengrad genomen, een treinreis van 40 uur (als alles op tijd reed). Achter de verwarmingswagen bevindt zich een DB Bcm, een koersrijtuig in speciale dienst dat zijn loop in Amsterdam begon. Dit was de eerste ligwagenexcursie uit een serie van vijf. Het rijtuig werd telkens in bestaande treinen in- en uitgerangeerd.

 

In the European part of Turkey awaits DE 24 418 with the Istanbul Express (Munich-Istanbul) in Alpullu for departure for the last leg of the long journey to Istanbul Sirkeci.

One of the less common DE22s on passenger in recent years due to a lengthy spell allocated to Istanbul, DE22 081 is seen ready for the off on the 'Güney Ekspresi' (11.20 Ankara - Kurtalan).

One of the many freights that we passed on this line, many of which had a loco on each end - Toshiba built Bo-Bo-Bo E43 010 waits the passage of the Elazig bound 'Firat Ekspresi'. This photo was taken standing on a container flat wagon that was conveniently sitting in track one.
