Turkish Railways, TCDD with in Japan, Toshiba designed and in Turkey built in 1987 by Tülomsaş with 45 pieces built BoBoBo locomitive of 3180 Kw. Number E43 012 at Haydarpasa Gari on December 11, 2006. The train will go over Eskisehir to Ankara. Nowadays there is a partially new high-speed railway line. The station lost most of its function since opening of the rail tunnel under the Bosphorus (Boğaziçi). The neo classical Haydarpaşa station was once a gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II to the Sultan and served the Anatolia - Baghdad company between 1906 and 1908. The building rests on 1100 wooden 21 meters long piles in the soft soil. In 2010, a fire destroyed part of the roof and at this moment the station empty and out of use. Hopefully it continues to survive because it is a gem of a station. I once traveled from there to Iran and beyond. A large restaurant, station barber, ticket offices, baggage handlers, compassionate TCDD employees, what an attractive station!

As scene that had been photographed a few times over the years was the departure of the late afternoon mixed (Train 1406) departing Eğirdir over the viaduct skirting the lake of the same name. I used to daydream about going to live there (cheaply) and write a best selling novel!

On the morning of September 20, 2005, two TCDD DE 24000 hauled a large number of wagons with empty bulk containers from Malatya, presumably to Elazığ. The train was photographed near Firat station.
Built in the UK by Robert Stephenson, TCDD 46101 was one of six stylish 2-8-2s originally built for the Ottoman Railway Company in 1929/1932 and was seen at Izmir Basmane station in January 1976.
In their final years they could all be found working out of Izmir, mainly on suburban and local passenger workings, but on my visit eight years later only one was left in service shunting the local docks.

TCDD E 43002 and DE 24018 are about to depart to Ankara and Kars. 45 electric locomotives were built by Toshiba and Tülomsaş in 1987. Now Haydarpaşa Gari is empty since 19th June, 2013 and disused as the new tunnel line is surpassing it and ferries no longer dock at the keyside of this wonderful characteristic railway building which once was the beginning of the Baghdad Railway.

For some years stored at Afyon the loco has now been disposed of.

In Turkey, too, the sun does not always shine...
On January 8, the railway from Konya to Karaman reopened after a closure of eight years for renovation. The line is now electrified, double-track, and apt for speeds up to 200 km/h. Three times a day, an YHT train connects Karaman to Konya and onwards to Ankara or İstanbul. Moreover, the «Taurus Express» - the namesake mountains are just about visible on the horizon! - Konya-Adana was reinstated, unexpectedly with a loco-hauled consist (for a long time, it was not clear whether it would be put back into service at all, and if it were, then surely it would employ Anadolu DMUs). DE22 082 is approaching its terminus as it has just left Çumra, 29-03-2022.

Before contemplating a waiting 'dolmuş' DE18-114 arrives 05.45 Afyon-Izmir Alsançak service somewhat late running at 18.23 across a typical Aegean region landscape. Clearly a 'mixed' consist.

Crossing the superb Aegean Anatolian plains is BR57001 57020 07.30 branch train from Çivril accepted by a staff member some jaunt from Sütlaç station.
My reward received following overnight from Afyon but no hardship, particularly as a rota change took place a little later with 57018 taking onward charge on the branch. Most likely a responsibility of Dinar depot in this eleventh hour for the branch and TCDD steam traction.
