Turkish Railways (TCDD) former DR52 2-10-0 'Kreigslok' 56536 departs Balikesir on 3 April 1984 with the 1722hrs local service to Dursunbey.

The train only ran Mondays and Tuesdays and was absolutely packed. I'm not sure what people did for the rest of the week?

Turkish State Railways (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryollari) two cylinder 0-8-2T steam locomotive Nr. 45.02 heads a local passenger train at Alsancak (Izmir) on 7th June 1955. It was built by Robert Stephenson & Co. in 1911 for the Ottoman Railway Company (Smyrna - Aidin Railway Nr. 66), intended for banking duties

Early morning on 29 March 1984, TCDD 'Kriegslok' no.56509 catches the low sun as it departs Afyon with no.1162 mixed to Alaşehir .

It was one of 53 "Kriegsloks built for the Turkish Railways by German locomotive builders, 56509 coming from the initial batch of 10 built by Henschel in 1943.

Turkije, 1976, depot Irmak. Sommige waren kopieën van bestaande series (o.a. G10, T18), sommige waren nieuwe ontwerpen. Duitsland leverde ook locomotieven die eerst daar dienst hadden gedaan (o.a. G8) en hun tweede leven in Turkije versleten, sommige tot de late jaren 80 aan toe!

There were plans to connect Kayseri directly to the SE via Kahramanmaraş. In 1948 a short part was realized from Köprüağzı, a station on the mainline Malatya - Adana.

This was the only place to find TCDD class 34.06. The design is based on the German BR24.

Quit a long train for such a branch line, with no intermediate stations! The trains connected to the mainline schedules, in theory. In the seventies Schürzewagen and Hechtwagen were still common on all kinds of passenger trains.

In this remote, but farmed landscape, Kriegslok 56529 approaches Dumlupinar bank with a Alasehir to Afyon freight.

The new YHT station at Ankara sees Siemens Velaro YHT set HT80112 prior to working the 08.35 Ankara - Eskisehir.

2-10-2 57011 catches the morning light as it coaled. 57011 was the regular booked loco for Alasehir/Manisa/Alasehir services at the time and was quite possibly the last of the class to be engaged in regular line work. Some local women can be seen gathering up scraps of coal.

After calling at Genç on the 07.15 Tatvan - Elazig 'Posta' service, DE24 196 drew towards the end of the loop to allow another freight to shunt into the same track (with another DE24 loco visible in the distance) while both were passed by a lengthy Eastbound freight.

An Anatolian idyll clings to life at Sutlac, that is the ORC branch line to Civril. With it's single coach and van '57001' 2-10-2 loco 57018 waits upon 10.35 Sutlac-Civril service.

57018 had earlier arrived from Dinar shed as change-over for sister loco 57020 which had worked in on the 07.30 service from Civril. Providing just a further late afternoon service locos simmer on Civril's diminutive shed for most of the day.

With virtually no freight and low patronage the Sutlac-Civril branch succumbed to eventual closure by November 1988.

One of a classic Prussian design unique to Turkey loco 57018 is saved and is displayed at Camlik Museum.

Built by Henschel in 1937, Turkish Railways (TCDD) 2-8-2 no.46052 is at the head of train no.215 somewhere between Konya and Afyon on 28 March 1984.

I was enjoying a footplate ride at this stage and hopped down quickly to grab a shot before we were on the move again.

The 10.55 Eskişehir - Denizli 'Pamukkale Ekspresi' departs from Afyonkarahisar with DE24 275 providing the power. This loco is unusual as it has the new style of cab, but does not have an air-con box on the cab roof.
