TCDD Le3400 electric locomotives 52 511, 52 507 and 52 517 in composition of train 46870 - going to repair in KONČAR Group (Zagreb, Croatia).

The electrification out of Istanbul Sirkeci was one of Europe's earliest 25kV AC suburban electrications, and mainly used multiple unit trains, but a handful of electric locomotives was acquired to haul the few long distance trains into the station.

BB-4002 was built by Alsthom and its styling owes much to SNCF locomotives of the period. It has arrived at 7.49 with a train from Erdine and Athens, the first carriage of which sports a "birdcage" look-out for the guard.

Hitched as the passenger accommodation, an exDB VT98 railbus stands at Gumusgun as part of a 'mixed' consist, the 08.30 Burdur-Karakuyu service headed by loco DE18 113.

At this point , post steam traction, the TCDD Burdur System was some 8 years into using ex DB vehicles and possibly only as a stopgap measure.

A very clean and tidy looking E68 001 stabled in the station at Halkali, after arriving earlier on the 18.45 from Sofia.

Toshiba 1987 built 'Bo-Bo-Bo' 4,260hp electric loco E43 039 stabled outside Fevzipaşa depot, alongside a couple of E68 locos.

A brief stop near Kangal on our Turkish Delight railway circuit of Turkey gave me the chance to grab this short video of the dumped steam engines in the sidings there. Included in the 10-11 locos were Skoda-built TCDD 2-10-0s 56126 & 56136 & a number of unidentified ex-Prussian G8-2 2-8-0s numbered in the range 45001 to 45067.

If it looks rushed it's because it was!. No-one else got off the train and I stood a good chance of being left behind if I didn't rush.

a nice spot to go to after they close 05R but the heat haze can be a pain.

The 16.00 Sivas - Divrigi calls at the remote station at Karagol with DE24 356 in charge. With the train crew filling up water bottles from the tap on the platform there was time for a quick photo.

Considering this was very near the end of Turkish steam, this is quite a steamy little scene at Afyon in May 1989. On the right is a 57___ 2-10-0 with two Kriegsloks in the background.

57020 makes an early morning departure from Afyon with the "Skyliner Express" on 07/10/83

This train is metres from journeys end, arriving with a service from Istanbul

The Çamlik Railway Museum is located on the former Ottoman Railway mainline, the oldest line in Turkey, near the village of Çamlık, very close to the famous historical site at Ephesus. When the tracks on the Izmir to Aydın main line were realigned, a small portion of the line as well as the original Çamlık railway station were abandoned. Work to set up the museum started in 1991, and was completed in 1997. It uses the original tracks laid in 1866.
