Resin on tree bark. I find the charm of these things is the resemblance t a figure without being so close that it looks staged - which is isn't. The rule is NO Retouching or moving pixels.
The Foundation course at Kingston would appear to offer me the best and widest rage of pathways at the best University. For the last 30 years approximately I have worked in Government and Industry but as I progressed and gained promotions I became increasingly unhappy. It took several sessions with a life coach for me to realise how unhappy I was and what would make me happy. And what would make me happy was to study Art. So I resigned from corporate life inJune 2011 and have taken several painting courses, I regularly partake in life drawing classes, have joined the 4020 Art Group and receive weekly tutoring there. With the 4020 I have exhibited 3 works in Northolt library and featured in the Ealing Gazette. I have also started singing lessons, creative writing lessons and have attended a 5 day intensive pattern cutting and sewing skills course.
As a child I was always drawing or painting and spent most Saturdays in the Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow's Kelvingrove but I was not permitted to follow Art as an academic subject.
As I have now fully realised how important Art is in my life, I also realise that it must be important for many others. At the point I realised this I discovered that West Ealing Arts Project had been offered office space by a housing regeneration company. Open Ealing opened its doors as an Art Centre in April 2011 and I have been a volunteer there since August 2011. I help run: reception, school holiday workshops for children, organise food and wine for the new monthly exhibitions that open there on the first Friday of every month. I helped create exhibits for the "Homeapathy" exhibition (some plaster toasts) and help with the general organisation of assembling and disassembling of the monthly exhibitions dealing with both Artists and public.
Volunteering in this environment has helped me realise how much I have to learn about the Art world and it has been inspirational for me. Open Ealing has only3 paid part time posts. This 5 floor art centre runs because of volunteers from the local community and is not a "Council" Art Centre. It is very well supported by the local Community. People need Art and I need to learn so much more.
After attending the open day I am convinced that Kingston it the best academic place for me and for my learning journey and personal development.

This piece is a reprise of the allegorical scene I explored last night, but seen now in the uncompromising light of day. The mystery of the nocturne has given way to a stark, lucid clarity. The floating thoughts, the melting time, the impossible path—they are no longer elements of a subconscious dream but have become a memory of that dream, examined by the waking mind. The work questions what happens to our profound nighttime revelations when we hold them up to the sun. Do they retain their power, or does their dream-logic seem all the more strange and absurd? This is the same composition, but played in a different key: a lucid look at the strange landscape that felt so natural in the dark.

We created “Sophia’s World” as a tribute to the community that supported our family throughout the life of our daughter, Sophia Herzog Sachs. Sophia lived beautifully for over four years with Niemann-Pick Disease, Type A.
Throughout her life, we reached out to anyone that we thought could help, whether we knew the person personally or not. We searched for curative and palliative care therapies, ideas, inspiration, and hope. We were gratified by the way that people responded. A network of caring support consisting of friends both old and new, family, and community, began to form around Sophia and our family —healthcare providers and alternative healing practitioners, researchers, insurers, social service and public agencies, spiritual advisors and artists —came into this circle of caring support.
As this happened, we witnessed something extraordinary— an environment had been created around Sophia that enabled people to bring not only their minds, but also their hearts into the healing process. This “Healing Community” had created a nurturing environment for a child with a life threatening condition that celebrated life and brought hope and learning to everyone involved.
The 24 art projects depicted in “Sophia’s World” became the banners under which our community thrived—celebrations of the joy and creativity that abounded. They provided access to the sadness and miracle of Sophia’s life and life itself to people of every age, gender, nationality, spiritual tradition and walk of life. Access that proved enriching to all. Each project inspired another. Projects were seeded for other children and families in other communities around the world. Much of the art graced our house during Sophia’s life and much remains as a tribute to Sophia in her community.
We will always be grateful to the artists who gave Sophia and our family such a resonant voice in the world.
Sincerely,
Karen Herzog and Richard Sachs

There's this bespectacled dude that tapes up these little political statements on a few Portage Ave. kiosks, which stick around until they get moldy. He's on to something.
Note-Grids are a tool for collecting and connecting objects of thought (in this case, words).
They treat words and other manifestations of thought as objects that can be freely manipulated to create new meaning.
They break meaning up into individual words to facilitate a more fluid, intuitive, and improvisational approach to knowledge production.

Net Zero Needs Nuclear Power, Shared Presentations Stage 3, Thematic Arena 3, Opportunity petal, an IAEA Statement Event at the United Nations Climate Change Conference UNCCC held at the Expo City Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Blue Zone, 1 December 2023
The IAEA Event: Net Zero Needs Nuclear Power will highlight the crucial role of nuclear power as part of the energy mix. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mr Rafael Mariano Grossi will announce the ‘IAEA Statement on Nuclear Power’ supported by 40 countries, both those already operating nuclear power plants and newcomers. Together these countries acknowledge that all available low-carbon technologies, including nuclear power, should be recognized, and actively supported. The Statement underlines the benefits of nuclear power, including that nuclear power plants produce no harmful greenhouse gas emissions; that nuclear energy contributes to energy security and the stability of power grids; and that it mitigates air pollution at a local level.

I found the little pillow years ago in a hotel giftshop in D.C.
I made the large Santas several years ago when it seemed that half the women in Hagerstown were making them - I did about 2 dozen at least. Their gowns and coats are paper - a crinkly kind that looks like rope, but you unwind it and flatten it a little, then glue strips of it side by side to make a 'fabric-like' section. It was fun scouring craft and thrift shops to find tiny toys and decorative items to give them a finished look.
Sizzlin', Smokin', Seriously Sexy. OMG I love this necklace. It doesn't matter what you are wearing with this piece...it will steal the show.

This portfolio represents my exploration of light, texture, and perspective. Through these seven images, I aimed to capture both the quiet and the dynamic moments that surround us daily, from natural landscapes to urban environments.
Each photograph was chosen to reflect a balance between observation and emotion. Some images focus on movement and energy, while others emphasize stillness and contemplation. I intended the sequence to create a visual rhythm, inviting the viewer to move through the portfolio with both attention and curiosity.
Photography, for me, is a way to notice the unnoticed—to see beauty in everyday moments, patterns, and contrasts. This collection represents my creative journey, highlighting the ways I interpret the world visually while developing my technical and artistic voice.
