A setup shot for this shot. The flash is to the camera left, set to hit most of the diffuser.

This is a setup I used for several of the pictures marked with descriptions.

This was a pretty interesting shoot. It was about like I imagined though, a car is just a giant mirrored product shot. Watch your angles and reflections really closely and you're guaranteed to get something usable.

Did a photoshoot at my friend house recently. Made my friend as light stand.

The bottom half

This is the setup for a couple of "light through liquid" shots, such as this one, this one and this one

Very easy setup with one light:

Westcott 28" Softbox Camera Right and low.

Canon 580EXII, 1/4 power, Elinchrom Skyport.

Canon 5DMKII, ISO100, 1/160th

Canon 24-70mm, @51mm, f8.

I hope you like it.

As always, your comments are most welcome, ie. leave a comment!!!!

Setup shot for "Spinning"

Camera at close range shot

Here is my ghetto setup for the last few shots i did. im stuck in a tiny dorm in korea and i dont have many resources, so i gotta get inventive:

Canon 5dmkii w/ 100mm f/2.8 macro lens

cardboard box robot i built

crumpled tinfoil behind, with a propped up iphone displaying a bright red picture.

LED flashlight going through my external flash's diffuser to give the robot a smidgeon of light.

Macbook Pro 470, Dell 22'. Got hurt by the glossy screen.

Had another photo illustration yesterday for the Opinions editor Sarah Zeeck. The story was for the dorms sucking up money from students so of course, the first thing in my head was a vacuum. Yeah, I know. Not the most original but time is tight. Just rented a vacuum, set up an umbrella in my room on a light stand about 6ft tall with the SB-80DX at 1/16 fired opticaly via my on pop up flash set to it's lowest setting on the 20D.

Too much ambient light at first so I turned a few off and it looked a lot better. First few were boring so I tried to add some motion by slowing down the shutter speed. to about 1/5 @ISO 100 f/2.8.

Overall, turned out okay with a quick setup. Really wish I had two flashes.

Sunbeam EM0480, Mazzer Mini, Duetto

Strobist:

On the left... SB 24 clamped to boom arm stand. Firing partially into the umbrella to get a bit more light on the front, and partially into the ceiling.

SB 28 on boom arm, shooting out into the ceiling to create a large continuous swath of light. Rotated horizontally, and zoomed out all the way.

On the right... another SB 24 on a stand... partially hitting the ceiling, partially hitting the umbrella to help light up the back of the car. Used distance (umbrella to car) angle (how much hits the umbrella) and zoom to control how much of that light hit the ceiling to light up the top of the car, vs how much light was reflected to the back of the car.

Behind the car was an SB 28, with a blue filter on it, hitting the wall.
