Setup from a parent infant guidance class for 18-24 month olds.

Setup shot for Day 130.

Strobist info:

1 SB800 with DIY gridspot camera left behind subject. Unomat 300W continuous video light shot thru an umbrella as the main light.

Setup shot for the ice whisky shot.

SB-800 is at camera right. SB-25 is at camera left. The light box is an essentially free, homemade job, instructions for which can be found at Strobist.

This is just one setup I used. Moving the reflector (aka foil-covered cardboard) around changed the highlights.

Vivitar 285HV is at 1/16 power.

Photo shoot setup in the Eastgate Centre Basildon. Part of the Basildon District Arts Trail.

Strobist info: (shooting position is from the left of this image) 300W Courtenay SolaFlash @ half power with reflector to right of white wall & 145W Courtenay SolaFlash @ half power with reflector to left. Both of these are about 18" away from the wall, angled down and about 45degrees in towwards the wall & as high as they can go, around 7'-8'. A third Courtenay SolaFlash (-250W), @ full power with reflective umbrella, is positioned about 2' off axis, to the left, about 6' away from the wall & aimed pretty much at the centre of the shooting area. One flash was fired by radio triggers & the rest optically slaved.

Setup: cactus v4 trigger for flash,a white board and a white sheet of paper for background, a blue gelatine for color's background

our nice little setup:

*PC

*TFT

*Behringer BCF2000

*Casio Drumpad

*etc

Setup shot for the LSM1 pics - the hard light version had the flash aimed straight at the subject. The soft light just had the flash turned 180 degrees, reflected off the wall.

Setup for this shot, I cranked up the power to 1/2 on this shot, the light on my face is reflecting off the building to camera left, and off the wall behind the camera. I am not jumping in this shot as I couldn't be bothered trying to judge another jump on the self timer ;)

For the first time tonight I had some firing issues (or lack of firing) with my poverty wizards, I think it was something to do with the fact that the batteries needed recharging and gear had been outside for half an hour at -3c......

YN460 wearing my ghetto snoot with a pinhole shround on the end to get a more focused light. Gels just got taped over the end of the snoot. Mounted on a V2 trigger (hot shoe) and then on a Slik DV tripod.

SB 28 is wearing a 1/2CTO gel and a bounce reflector for fill and highlights on the chrome bits. mounted to a V2 trigger (hotshoe) and then onto a gorilla pod SLR.

Guitar is supported by a manly guitar stand. Guitar stand is loaded with manly beverages... for later.

Nikon D80 mounted on a manfrotto ball head tripod.... looking low to high.

My only consideration was getting the full headstock and 4 frets into frame, lucky for me as I had very little room to move further back with the d80 before I either got a frame half full of ghetto snoot, or I backed into the wall of this tiny room.

Journaling:

* Buy an easy set up pool despite your husband’s warnings. The box says 15 minute set-up, so how hard can it be?

* After purchasing, read directions. *Realize it is going to take much more than 15 minutes to set up.

* Realize just how un-level your yard is.

* Go ahead and take pool out of box.

* See that the power source is not going to work.

* Discover that you are going to have to dig a ditch for a new power source to be set up.

* Reconsider the whole thing. Call the store to see if they will take it back. They will only take it if it will all fit back in the box.

* Try folding up the pool and stuffing it back into the box.

* Try this tirelessly until everyone has smashed and laid on the pool trying to get it back into the box the way it came.

* Discover it will NEVER fit back in the box despite how hard you try.

* Borrow a tiller. Till, rake, till, rake, till, rake until you have blisters on your hands.

* Then bring in the big help……..

AKA my dad

* Bring in a truckload of washed sand and re-level and put in the proper power source so no one gets electrocuted when plugging in the filter. (Thanks to Mr. Miller!)

* Finally set up the pool and start filling. * Answer the question, “”is it ready yet?”” 3 million times.

The end result?

Setup based on the $0.02 DIY Macro Studio

iPhone grab of my set up from today's shoot, result is here.

It's my basic clamshell set up - Lastolite Ezybox directly above subject, shoot through umbrella directly below. To camera right there is a snooted, gridded flash which creates the highlight on the background behind the model. To camera right, behind and above the model is a gridded flash creating the highlight in the hair. All flashes were Canon 580EX II triggered by PocketWizard. Background is sky blue seamless paper. The hot light to camera right provides illumination for focusing and is felled to match the flash.

Vivitar 3500 with paper diffuser high, slightly camera left. Whiteboard used for back reflection. Triggered with DIY cable.

This is the setup that I used for my duckling time-lapse shots.

I mounted the camera (with 15mm fisheye lens on a heavy duty Giottos MH-3300 Pro Ball Head (just the head).

I tethered the camera to my laptop and used. EOS Utility software to control it. Software was set to fire the camera every 5 seconds.
