A setup shot for this picture. This is the first time I ever do a setup shot, although I usually draw my setup in my journal.
First setup shot for this submission to Active Assignment Weekly.
The light box was inspired by the Tinker Tubes system.
This was a quick, 'point & shoot' setup. I mounted the camera on the bottom of the tripod, threw some christmas lights in the background, focused and shot. I only had space for 2 shots on my memory card, so it was gamble that either of the two shots would end up as keepers.
My computer setup in all it's glory. On the left we have The Beauty and on the right we have The Beast.
Here's my setup, the unit, the bulb housing, 3 screens, a blue filter, and 3 laser printed comps to burn onto the screens

Setup used for photographing Ochropleura plecta (the Flame Shoulder moth).
The moth is pushed onto a piece of white paper. Once it has settled, the paper is trimmed around the moth, and then placed on a white flat surface (the windowsill).
Behind the moth is placed a white piece of card to act as a backdrop, propped up against an old honey jar.

The setup shot for my Christmas "card".
Since I don't own PWs I had to shoot in bulb mode and fire the SB28 twice to get the "best" lighting. Camera on the tripod, close the basement door, don't trip over the tripod, locate the release on the camera. Then pickup the flash, press the shutter release, find the test button on the flash and fire it, move the arm to a different location and fire the flash again. Repeat until photo is good enough.

Camera left: ABR800 at full-blast with umbrella adapter shooting into a convertible umbrella, bounced onto a white bedsheet for a queen-size mattress...back left 430EX2 snooted at 1/8 and back right FL50 bare at 1/4 power. Fired by PW2's.

Photoshop: For the background I used a scratch texture with "Overlay blend mode". I used the "Quick Select Tool" on me to not applying the texture.
