I took a shot of my setup while I prepared for a 5x7 large format paper negative.
Taken with Minolta Hi-Matic F and Fujicolor C200
For anybody interested, here is my setup. See my previous 2 posts.
I'm sure for a lot of you this is not at all interesting. However, for some of you it's great. It simply shows how easy this is and can keep you engaged when you are out of ideas and stuck at home.
like ive been saying for a while i wanted to take my moniter shelf off my desk and i have now and i love it, wallpaper courtesy of Joe Baynham: www.flickr.com/photos/joebaynham/
The main differences with the previous version are:
- higher stiffness of the camera support
- Improvement of the positioning system
- acquisition stack sequence automated with Arduino
- whole process controlled by PC
To simplify the realization and considering that it is intended for a studio-system I have chosen to control everything from PC and not locally
STACKARDUINO (control program for Heasy Driver and A-4988) and stack.ino (sketch for ARDUINO) can by downloaded from:

Set up shot for Analisha. You can see the key light but also behind her there is another flash illuminating the second circle's wall. Hidden behind the first wall is another strobe giving her rim.
This is one of the shots taken with that setup (not the best one since it doesn't show the rear background lit). This one by Andrew is.
The set up for the fruit splashing shots: Canon 550D with 50mm f1.8 lens (not shown)
Black card background
Canon EX580II Speedlite
School-made glass tank
Reflector
Lovely assistant, willing to give up two free periods to get wet and smell of oranges
This is the setup I used for shooting the macro shots of the bluebells and other flowers with a black velvet background. The umbrella diffuses the flash, the small mirror on the table reflects additional light up from below.
So basically a lid from a bin repurposed as a tray to hold a bunch of dirt and crap. I like how its a tray so I can easily move it for different lighting and backgrounds. This setup has been where I’ve taken most of my shots lately, whether it be all dusty in this or filled with water and plants in this. On the top left you can see the bricks I painted and that I use as backgrounds in some of my pics such as this, this, or this, etc and you can see that chicken wire that I just use as a fence in the background sometimes. Also I got a bendy barbecue lighter for being able to put the fire in a weird spot while still looking through the camera. Of course I gotta throw in a crashed star destroyer for a cool background and there you go. The camera is a Canon Rebel SL1 and I just used the kit lens because after years of using dslr's and different lenses, i tried using the standard 18-55 i always forget about and I realized it works the best for lego photography because of how close you can get to the figures and being able to change the look with the zoom by having the field of view change by being able to change the focal length. A lot of my shots are variations of this setup.
Shooting at a beach - light setup... Bare flash as a kicker, Beauty dish 5 degrees camera right and above model, Octabox for fill. The "assistant" holding the dish is a second, brave model in the freezing water - Thanks girls... and to my two assistants :D
