Here is my ghetto setup for the last few shots i did. im stuck in a tiny dorm in korea and i dont have many resources, so i gotta get inventive:

Canon 5dmkii w/ 100mm f/2.8 macro lens

cardboard box robot i built

crumpled tinfoil behind, with a propped up iphone displaying a bright red picture.

LED flashlight going through my external flash's diffuser to give the robot a smidgeon of light.

Macbook Pro 470, Dell 22'. Got hurt by the glossy screen.

Had another photo illustration yesterday for the Opinions editor Sarah Zeeck. The story was for the dorms sucking up money from students so of course, the first thing in my head was a vacuum. Yeah, I know. Not the most original but time is tight. Just rented a vacuum, set up an umbrella in my room on a light stand about 6ft tall with the SB-80DX at 1/16 fired opticaly via my on pop up flash set to it's lowest setting on the 20D.

Too much ambient light at first so I turned a few off and it looked a lot better. First few were boring so I tried to add some motion by slowing down the shutter speed. to about 1/5 @ISO 100 f/2.8.

Overall, turned out okay with a quick setup. Really wish I had two flashes.

Excuse the mess, we were doing a pre setup before an upcoming show to get a general idea of how things are gonna flow. we like this setup a lot, we are able to put more product out

Simple setup that utilizes the space I made to grow the mushrooms in. Most the supplies I bought from Menards, Brew-n-grow, and Petsmart (water pump). Seeds are started in small rockwool cubes in the plastic container atop the heating pad which is on top of the reservoir.

My computer setup with iMac Intel Core 2 Duo processor (10.5 Leopard), Macbook 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor (10.6 Snow Leopard) and 16G iPhone 3gS + Wacom Bamboo Tablet and 2 Maxtor hard drives

Vivitar 825HV at one-eighth power through a soft box, camera right. White foam-core as a reflector camera left. Black foam-core angled over the mirror to provide the dark background reflection.

The old low-trail fork I've been using for rack setup (not for very much longer; I bought about 10 feet of 8020 that I'm going to use to finish a more durable flexible fitting jig) had patches of temporary spray overcoat & raw metal from various things being brazed onto/next to it, so why not correct that in the sort of sedate style that I am known for; fluorescent pink, which will go with just about anything.

Setup for 'Bad'.

Silver reflector was on a table, to keep it at about waist height.

Oh yeah, reason the flashes look weird is because they're flagged to keep them off the background.
