Main light shooting through umbrella, fill (which is off in this) bouncing off umbrella, hair (off) above. I probably should have had the hair light back just a bit, now that I look at the pics closer

Part of the setup for some recent headshots.

The two little jars of preserves were propping up my phone, which was lighting the scene from the side.

The mirror is settled into a scrunched-up towel because it doesn't lie flat on the countertop by itself.

Behind The Scene diagram of photoshoot with Angela

Strobist setup:

- Speedotron 1200 powerpack at "-2" triggered wirelessly;

- one 106 head with a bigger softbox on the right as a main light source;

- 102 head with a smaller softbox on the left as a filling light;

- 102 head with barndoors on the left to lit background;

- one cheap chinese monoblock with yellow filter triggered by the main flashes.

Here is a result.

This is my setup for water photography. I'm still looking for a better background and next time I also want to use colored water but this works for now.

The setup of our computers in the apartment. :)

Three lights, pretty simple. A small trick of using the blue wall to give a slight color cast to the fill light in the headshots.

Illustration for the 3 June 2011 post on my new blog, blog.PrairieRimImages.com

The resulting shot is posted below. A more in depth discussion can be found at blog.PrairieRimImages.com/2011/06/making-money-shot.html

Shot through my Nikkor 135/2.8 lens at f/5.6. Strobist: Bill lit by a snooted Vivitar 283, 1/64 power, on a stand. I wanted some texture on the bill, so the light is hitting it at about a 20 degree angle. The green spot is a Canon 430EX, 1/8 power, dark green gel, through a drinking straw grid, hitting a white sheet about 5 feet behind the bill. The bill is mounted with scotch tape inside an 8x10" picture frame. The tape is cloned out in post. In the setup shot, the room is lit by another Vivitar 283 at full power bounced off the ceiling.

Here is another view of the office area, and you can see my husbands desk.

The setup for this shot:

Strobist Info:

1x AB1600 - Camera Left w/ Shoot-Thru umbrella.

1x AB1600 - Camera Right w/ Softbox and black card to control spill. (note the voice activated lightstand)

Any questions? Feel free to ask!

The right clamp is holding the pencil which as a bonus action is pinning the leaf down to the page. The left clamp is not actually clamping anything but is (1) helping to flatten down the leaf but unfortunately also (2) casting a shadow such that I could not quite do as wide of a composition as I originally wanted. But it was all too tenuous and shaky to fiddle around very much. I accidentally nudged/bumped the leaf out of position several times while I was trying to move eraser shavings around.

Speaking of eraser shavings, I made them by scribbling with coloured pencils and then erasing it with a white eraser. Turns out that "emerald green" is way too blue, as compared to the colour of this leaf. Hence the other two pencils brought in to the effort.

This is the setup for 2 photos: Glamour and Hope

We used two flashes in a very similar way to this one, but with an improvised handmade snoot to illuminate only the model's face.

The canon flash was at 105 mm and 1/32 with the snoot, and the Metz one wide opened at full power, behind the umbrella :)
