This is the setup shot for www.flickr.com/photos/psteeper/3915847256/.
Above is an Alien Bee AB800 and a medium foldable softbox on my fancy boom arm. Below is an AB800 with 30 degree grid so I don't blind myself. The glass container is sitting on a roll of gaffer's tape on top of an old 35mm bulk roll box. This is sitting on a sheet of translucent white plexiglass from Home Depot.
I get the 2x4' sheets that are used in fluorescent office fixtures. The sheets are about $10. There is a black sheet of polystrene behind everything.
Do not tell my wife her glass dish was precariously perched in a stack for this shot!
Gear:
Canon 60D
Canon 24-105mm f/4 L
Strobes:
3 Alien Bee B800 strobes
1 placed rear of vehicle
1 place front middle bounced off the ground
1 in the front of vehicle

This set-up was pulled off by Nerissa. She stacked up some books and covered them with a grey table cloth, then adding all the buildings, trees and details (notice the fake waterfall made of iridescent paper and the tower made of sugar bricks? - awesome).
Setup for a few shots I took of some cupcakes.
Sunpack 383 on 1/4 power camera left with grid. Cupcakes are sitting on thin plexiglass with black foamcore underneath. Black reflector to side to eat the light.
Setup for portrait of Disa. Ambient is contributing pretty much nothing to the exposure.
Now that I have an umbrella I can steal Hobby's full setup. Today I also had access to a third flash, so I added a rim/chin light too. It was a bit too hot and probably should've been placed more behind subject as well.

Newborn session setup! Struggling with the light in this space as there is SO much...finding my images sometimes look "flat" due to the lack of one light source.... still figuring out how to remedy this...
Setup shot for Kimble/Frustration/Trouble board game pictures. 430EX (1/4 at 35mm) into umbrella at left.

This was a tricky one - we were trying to light the inside of the mask with red, but since the eye ports were on different planes, I wound up having to use two lights - one for each eye.
The main light has a green gel, a grid and a short snoot.
The eye lights have red gels, and are snooted very tightly with cinefoil.
My current setup.. not too fancy, core 2 quad, dual monitor with a dual boot (windows7, and ubuntu) KVM'd with another dual boot (Win XP, ubuntu) computer sitting in the corner behind the desk.. ;0)
Setup for keeping the transmit and receive elements of the photo gate in place for high-speed water drop photography

Way back you can see the strobe, then behind the bottle is a diffuser to make soft light that will wrap around the bottle,
a reflector on each side to push some light back onto the front of the bottle.
This shows how simple the setup can be.

This shows my lighting setup. The right light is in a 9" soft box. The left light is at -0.7EV and the right is at 0EV.
My new bedside TV setup: a nice Blue & White G3, Harman Kardon speakers and my latest addition: an original 15" studio display.
