This is the lighting setup that was used for my self-portrait, "An Instructor."
On a black velvet background, we have a Canon 580EX II that was behind my head to act as a rim light. A 10" reflector above and to camera left, an 8" on camera left pointing at the abdomen and a strong 6" spot on camera right abdomen to highlight the pistol.
This was shot on my Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod with a 488RC2 Ball Head. The camera was a Canon Rebel XSi with a 70-200mm f/2.8 USM with IS at 85mm, f/6.3, 1/200.
The pistol is a Springfield Armory XD Service (4" barrel) chambered in 9mm with Dawson Precision fiber optic sights.
Lightroom: Adjustment brush to increase exposure across the pistol barrel, instructor logo and around the rim of the subject. Color desaturation in the skin tones.
Photoshop: Healing on the skin and background. Noise reduction and a high key pass to bring out the highlights.

Here's up close on the hotshoe adapter and the coiled PC sync cables. There's a trick to PC sync. Never, ever twist the connectors on and off. always pull straight out. That's how you avoid breaking the connections inside.
This time I tried to put my working boards on top of the Life puzzle, and then then foam boards on top of the working boards. I thought this was going to work better, but it really didn't because the working boards were slipping and sliding around on the pieces too, and wouldn't stay nestled tightly together. I have invested way too much time in the Life puzzle to let any of my worked areas get messed up....so, I have to find another solution...on to Setup Attempt # 3...
