Replicating one of Da Vinci’s arched bridge designs from a pile of notched logs. Da Vinci created these designs for the Duke of Milan, Ludovico ‘Il Moro’ to facilitate rapid troop movements across rivers while carrying out surprise attacks. It took us four attempts to get the structure stable enough to bear our weight and one wonders how easy it would have been to build these bridges without access to both sides of the river or under a hail of arrows or flaming shot!

All in the details!

Just like @pterodactyltactics car irl, I replicated some of the exposed carbon kevlar pieces, which you can see in the front fender well and inside the front hood. The gap between the front wheel and the door is so small. That made it tricky to add the "fender" in, but I was able to add it to the door instead. Another tricky thing about the door is that it is angled up. I thought about angling the chassis up instead, but I wanted to try angling the door, so the side skirts would be easier to do. In the end, I think it worked perfectly!

Looking closely at the wheel shows some very cool details. This is my first time adding brake rotors and brake calipers! The rotors are tough to see, but you can see the print on it. The brake calipers are using the new 1x2 curved jumper pieces and it works so well. On top of that, I also made "center locks" in red and gold. The actual race car does have center locks in this colorway, so this worked perfectly. In a sense, it also works by replicating the red caps with the gold BBS logo that Marc had. I was hesitant about the red and gold, but I think it's a very cool detail.

The vented hood is also one of my favorite details of this car. The 1x2 slopes are the perfect angle to replicate the real hood. And if you peek inside, you can see the carbon kevlar tub. I think Lego's olive green is such a nice color to match that. The hood is removable, but it's not pretty underneath, so I didn't take a picture of that. Another cool detail is where the dash/cowl meets the hood. It's slightly angled down, which isn't very necessary, but is realistic.

The famous Replicator avatar of Grendel's Children. I did not use one in its entirety but assembled the elements of several of them around Alpha; since in their original state these avatars diverge too far from the human and would probably fall outside the Uncanny Valley's threshold.

In this first trial shoot I am using Loli Nori's really amazing charcoal "Drow" skin, which she (for some reason best known to her alone) is giving away as a freebie at the Bare Rose Mall. This skin is simply the best skin that I have seen anywhere in Second Life. Sadly, I do not use it on a regular basis since the dark tone sort of stops Alpha from being the "look alike" avatar that I prefer her to be. I am not too sure that this skin will actually get Alpha into the range of the Valley's threshold since it is actually very "humanly" expressive. It is why it is such a gorgeous skin in the first place...

Day 4 of 365.

Not that much to say today, compared to yesterdays saga. I have decided that I have a healthy obsession with the atmosphere and cloud formation, my favorite of which being Cumulonimbus. I was luck enough to catch a double rainbow in one today. I just think..."How lucky are we that our planet transports billions of gallons of water while putting on an incredible visual display?" Next time you are out, and have a free moment. Observe the sky for a few minutes, notice how quickly it changes, and how unique the formation was and how you will never see a duplicate of it. Clouds are truly a magnificent engineering feat of nature, whilst at the same time being a limitless display of beauty.

Replicating something which would have been a familiar everyday sight on route 65 up until the OPO conversion of the route to MCW Metrobuses in February 1986, RM 2208 is seen at the last northbound bus stop for routes 65 and N65 towards Ealing Broadway station in Bond Street in Ealing town centre. The parade of Victorian shops along Bond Street in the background add some character to the photo which makes up for the modern bus stop post and ugly street furniture on the left of the photo. This photo also shows the newly-laid Treadmaster flooring installed on RM 2208's rear platform to good effect.

David's new toy: a 3-D printer called The Replicator, made by MakerBot.

Repeated form, one with snow, one without - a classic juxtaposition - I like this one...

Poe kneels down next to BB-8 to give him the fragment of the map that leads to Luke Skywalker. Replicating BB-8's details and shape in such a small size forced me to be really economical with part usage. His head is a little big, but then again, so is the head of the average minilander.

As for the villagers, I included both of the named villagers from the Episode VII Visual Dictionary: namely Dasha Promenti and Ilco Munica (complete with his unique war club).
