Put together in photoshop

I haven’t put any clothing on trial since January. I get rid of plenty of items on my own, but every once in awhile I can’t decide if a piece of clothing works for me or not. That’s when I ask you all for help.

Jacket, Merona or Mossimo. Dress, handmade via swap. Shoes, Gianni Bini. Ring, Target.

I’ve had this jacket for a little over three years. I used to really like it…but lately I’m kind of “meh” about it.

What do you think? Should it stay in my rotation or not?

The album pictured above never existed. However, it represents an idea of an album many fans wish had been put on Motown's album release schedule in 1664.

1964 was sort of an odd year for Motown album releases. Looking at this page on Wikepedia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motown_discography#1964) is fascinating if only because it highlights that many of the artists who started out strong at Motown suddenly were floundering in the album department. Also, there were quite a few planned albums that were cancelled. On the other hand, 1964 was unique at Motown as being the year the "weak" became strong and a couple new signings took off stronger than the "stronger" established artists.

The Miracles and The Marvelettes, two of Motown's most popular acts early on were in a sort of slump. The Miracles' album "I LIke It Like That" was released, then withdrawn in the U.S. The Marvelettes weren't even granted an album release this year (or the next year.) Despite the hit status of Martha & The Vandellas' "Quicksand," this and their other singles weren't compiled onto an album that year either.

Stevie Wonder had cooled off after the heat of "Fingertips" but Motown admirably kept trying to regain some traction by releasing a slew of thematic albums. 1964, Stevie gained an album release but it was another sort of theme album build around the sort-of-a-hit, "Harmonica Man." It seems even Marvin Gaye was hitting a dry spell. Yes, he got an album with Mary Wells, but his solo albums were MOR-themed albums and a Greatest Hits package.

Speaking of Mary Wells, she really seemed to be one of the few established artists who was gaining traction, with "My Guy," connecting with the public in a huge way. She was rewarded an album based on that hit and also a Greatest Hits package loaded with strong material.

Contrasting with the "stong" artists cooling off, suddenly a few "weak" or back-burner artists came to the fore tremendously: The Temptations hitting with "The Way You Do The Things You Do" were rewarded with the album, "Meet The Temptations." Brenda Holloway came on strong with "Every Little Bit Hurts." The breakout success of The Four Tops' "Baby I Need Your Loving," spurred the release of their eponymously-titled album, "Four Tops." The previously nicknamed "No-Hit Supremes" was another group with weak sales who suddenly had INSANE breakout success with "Where Did Our Love Go" which spurred an album of the same name.

Really, 1964 was a transitional year for Motown. Along with the success of The Tempts, and Brenda Holloway, it really was The Year of The Supremes and Four Tops and the flourishing of what would become known as the Motown Sound.

The Weak Became Strong...and made everyone else strong again.

Put your schedule on the inside of your locker door. Highlight the places where you CAN go to your locker between classes. Make other marks to show when you have time to visit the bathroom, and when you have less leeway than usual to travel between classes. You may already know this about your schedule, but writing it down helps cement it in your thinking.

Local chef to put skills on display

Thursday, July 16, 2009

By Jason E. Silvers, Tribune Staff Writer

Chris Maycumber likes to cook, and this weekend he will get a chance to test his skills in front of a live crowd.

The local resident will offer his services as a guest chef during the Farmer's Market "Fun Day" from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Skubitz Plaza near the Fort Scott National Historic Site. Maycumber will give cooking demonstrations throughout the morning using seasonal fresh produce provided by Fort Scott Farmer's Market vendors.

The purpose of the event, Maycumber said, is "to make people aware of how to use locally-grown produce."

Maycumber said he plans to prepare and cook a variety of dishes during the event, including eggs and vegetables, homemade flatbreads with yogurt cheese, gazpacho (a cold, Spanish-style soup), spicy carrot salad, beet salad with orange vinaigrette, and heirloom tomato bruschetta.

Samples and recipes will be available to attendees throughout the event, Maycumber said.

Maycumber, a 1990 graduate of Fort Scott High School, also attended the University of Kansas and later studied culinary arts at Johnson County Community College while working as a chef apprentice under chefs Michael Smith and Debbie Gold at a restaurant in Overland Park. Maycumber also worked alongside other talented chefs that now work in restaurants across the United States.

"When I went to culinary school for two years, I worked with two great chefs and learned from them," he said.

Some of Maycumber's favorite dishes to prepare involve using items that many people discard -- such as beef and chicken bones -- in cooking stocks that are then used in making soups, gravies and sauces.

Maycumber lives in Fort Scott with his wife, Deidra and son, Will.

The guest chef event is part of other activities taking place Saturday morning at Skubitz Plaza as part of the Bicycle Safety Rodeo that is being sponsored by the Fort Scott Police Department, the Fort Scott Farmer's Market, and Mercy Health Center. That event will include several booths that will focus on bicycle safety topics, such as pre-riding maintenance, basic first aid for bicycle-related injuries, and handouts featuring bicycle safety facts.

The event will also include a bicycle registration booth where riders may register their bikes at no charge, and a free bicycle obstacle course that helps teach bicycle safety procedures. Professionals will be on hand to provide free bicycle safety checks for all children's bicycles, and will also check bicycle helmets and make helmet adjustments free of charge.

Put this Al Capone Whoodie on and you'll feel like a true gangster. One of the worlds original gangsters, Al Capone's face is printed on both sides of the hood. His famous saying, "A smile will get you far....... But a smile and a gun will get you farther" is printed on the back in either white or black text depending on what color hoodie you choose.

Beauty is the Beast

Donald Trump Jr. does his best Joe Biden imitation, shaking hands with nobody, during an appearance with Republican Senate candidate JD Vance, in Independence, OH.

Georgie felt pretty posh in his fedora.

I put on my walking boots, pop my Razorbacks wooly hat one, add an extra layer of clothing, and set off, taking the less muddy route to the end of the street then turning down Station Road. I had done this to have a look at the house at the end, as by this time last year his daffodils had been in flower for six weeks. Not this year, many have buds, but some time from opening. However, just round the corner there was a cultivated primrose open, but I would find no wild ones open along the roads to Kingsdown.

Down at the bottom of the hill, the new house now has its foundation completed, so now ready for the walls to be built on the house replacing the old ruinous old cottage that used to be there.

I huff and puff my way up the hill the other side, I was doing OK, but my back was complaining already. I press on. At the corner of Kingsdown Road, the Red Lion seems to have been sold, and now waits its conversion to a house, so the village loses another pub.

Along the street to the edge of the village, most of the way being forced to walk on the road as people parked so to block the pavement. I take pictures planning to send them to the police of post online. But it is always this way.

From the edge of the village, it is mostly downhill all the way. My back settles down, and soon enough it doesn't hurt at all. Out of the village, past the new vineyard and past the scattered houses that are hidden from view along the road. Finally I come to the top of Norway Drove: i look down, it doesn't look too muddy, maybe I will go back that way after all. A quarter mile further on, the hill descending to Otty Bottom begins, normally I turn right here to the cliffs, but I thought that would be muddy, so decide to use the road instead.

The gate at the bottom has been replaced by two sturdy bollards, but I reckon a couple of lads could get a mini through the gap on one side, and be able to drive from Kingsdown to St Maggies. Maybe not.

The road levels out, and passes by more scattered large house, not many others around, so I am lost in my thoughts. Eventually, I come to the junction where the road from the golf club joins, and I have to take cover in puddles so not to be run over by some pringled Audi driving twat.

Around a bend and I can see the sea in front of me. From here it is a ten to fiteen minute walk, and I have an hour. So I can wander, or find a bench to sit on and ponder my existence.

It is cold on the bench. Even with my hat on, zip on my coat pulled up. I decide to go for a warming pint of chilled beer and wait for Rob inside. That seemed the sensible thing to do.

Another from the Put Van Hombeek, a lake south of Mechelen. Since there is not much foreground interest there, I decided to make a vertorama out of it.

Always fun..

I put a line of water-based marker on the bottom of the paper, put the bottom edge of paper in water, and let the water soak up into the paper overnight. Worked pretty well, even though I was using cheap bond paper.

Mario Williams, Steve Slaton and the Houston Texans put on quite a show in their "Monday Night Football" debut.

Williams had a season-high three sacks and forced a fumble and Slaton ran for a pair of touchdowns to lead the Texans to a 30-17 win over the slumping Jacksonville Jaguars.

Andre Johnson had a touchdown reception and Kris Brown kicked three field goals in the victory, a highlight in Houston's disappointing season so far.

The top pick in the 2006 draft, Williams brought down quarterback David Garrard in the second, third and fourth quarters. He forced a fumble by Garrard on his last sack and Houston recovered on the seven-yard line.

Slaton scored on the next play to make it 23-3 with about five minutes left. The rookie tacked on a 40-yard touchdown run and finished with 130 yards rushing in 21 carries. He also had two catches for 52 yards.

Slaton, Williams and the rest of the Texans (5-7) wore their "Battle Red" uniforms for their first Monday night game. The city of Houston hosted a Monday night game for the first time since Nov. 21, 1994, when the New York Giants beat the Oilers at the Astrodome.

Sage Rosenfels, making his fourth consecutive start in place of injured Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, threw for 200 yards and a score with an interception.

Jacksonville (4-8), a playoff team last season, has lost five of six after another lackluster performance. The Jaguars had three turnovers and missed a field-goal attempt. Garrard fell to the turf twice without being touched by the defense

These are from our pre-deployment training at Fort Carson last fall. Combatives are like wrestling/martial arts - a lot of people get hurt learning this crap, that someone up there in the Army has decided it is a good thing for us soldiers to learn. There are a lot of really gay-looking moves. One of these moves is called shrimping. I forget the rest. The way I figger it, if I am *ever* in a position to try and use these ridiculous moves on the enemy, I am fucked anyway. If that's all I got left - no ammo, no buddies with weapons and ammo - I am definitely up the ol' shit creek. But I can use some gay-looking moves on someone! Hooah!

I put this one together with my parents. It was the largest puzzle they had ever put together. We did it over a week and had a great time.
