50/50: Day 7
It got late on me yesterday so I didn't get a chance to post my shot ... but I'm a week into this 50/50 and it's been pretty fun so far. I've used different light sources and light modifiers to compose each image. I think this little project is not only going to help me get to know my 50mm better but my lighting gear as well. Good Stuff!!! =] ... Well I'm posting another food shot today. I think I like these the best because I get to eat the subject afterwards ... lol ... FOOD = YUMM!!!

Continuing the week of self. Not a double exposure, or any photoshop trickery here, just me standing in front of a mirror…

This was a birthday present from my wife (then-girlfriend) last year. It's a little wooden box with a coffee shop scene inside and a working clock on the wall. Although we haven't had a battery in it for about 6 months, it's still an interesting little object. I set up a lightbox with four styrofoam panels for walls and my softbox overhead for most of the light. I also bounced a speedlight off the front wall for some even light and to kill any glare off the front glass of the box.
This was the last day of my project 50 and I did it!! I'm pretty tired and I have a backlog of pictures from the past 50 days to process. I've learned a lot about lighting and the best part is that I've started looking at things in my normal routine with new eyes. I'm especially excited about the strobist stuff I've gotten into and I think I'll continue spending some time learning about and making light modifiers like my two softboxes.

update ~ 5/23/09...
this flower is now withering away in the grass because some azz pulled it up and tossed in on the ground. mrchazman saw it when he went out to get the paper this morning.
so...this morning...i'm feeling a tad bit blue...just like the flowers.
today is my last day of the project 50 assignment i have given myself. i had begun to feel disconnected from myself and my camera. i have let many body issues as well stresses and strains get in my way as of late. this was an attempt to let all of that go. or at least try to.
i am not new to this selfie process as i did a whole year of selfies. i had no idea what the hell i was doing though, so they were mostly arm's length shots with an accompanying little story. this time, i got to really let my inspirations and environment influence my art.
although this little project has sucked some of the inspiration up from my regular old photography, it has also given me a new found respect for me and my camera working together and attempting to make my visions a reality, which as we all know, is very hard to do.
i have gotten flickrmails and emails and comments about how much this project has inspired some of you. and i want to say thanks for that. but you all inspire me so much more than you will ever know, and this project is about that and the love and community and friendship i feel for all of you, most who i have never even met.
and i was so inspired by this little adventure, i am going to pop a black and white selfie in here and there for good measure. 50 shots were definitely not enough for me to express myself in this way.
keep telling stories because that is what we all are, storytellers. and i will, too ;)

So at just gone midnight I get a text from Erica saying "Hello, you don't happen to be in, awake and wanting coffee do you?" well duh… I'm Rick so I reply "Yes, yes & yes."
The long and the short of it is that we drank some coffee, had a catch up and I took a photo of a horse riding a mother fucking clock! I don't understand it, but I like it.

I didn't have a chance to upload yesterday as I've just been kinda swamped.
That being said, I'm not going to catch you up on what was mostly work yesterday anyway.
I did, however, see a bit of a bicyclanomaly while I was out for a minute last night. The image in my brain had to come home with me so I could share.

Could this be the start of a week of self? Hmm I might try.

I shot this at exactly 10:10 AM today.
Jeff and I usually go to Brueggers Bagels on Sunday Mornings if he's off from work, so that's where I was when I took this shot of these three elderly seem to be close friends, enjoying this special day with each other.
There is nothing like good friends & great times.
Especially when your good friend is your lover, your friend and all you ever wanted or needed!
Jeff and I enjoy each others company and spend lots of our free time just being with each other any way we can, but quite walks & just holding hands, talking trash & going out to eat are a great high in our relationship.
Just a bit of info, 10-10-10 will never occur again!
There are 5 Fridays this month.

If you don't get this shot, then you have some television to catch up on...
Ok, with the weather being complete crap tonight and I'm exhausted from a long day and even shorter night, I scrapped the idea of strobing tonight's shot. I actually had full intentions of following through with it until I saw what it was like outside.
When I got in the car and drove a half a block in the foggy muggy drizzling ick, I remembered that my wife had told me about an intersection she'd seen that would be good to shoot sometime. We're both HUGE Dexter fans by the way. Since it's not too far from the house, I set out to take a look for myself.
True enough, the shot was pretty creepy and the weather just made it that much more. I took the other image to go with it (originally as a texture though) and thought it just made it that much creepier.
So, in honor of Dexter's season premier coming up this week I give you, CUT YOUR LOSSES. I wasn't going to do much better than this shot tonight anyway ;)

Tree Light Larger On Black
Just an alternate shot for that day I was in a tree kinda mood.
Some morning when I'm out the light coming from between the trees are so amazing I just wonder if I can try an catch it with my camera.
I think I pulled it off this time.
An attempt in high speed photography, with nikon sb900 being the light source.
Set the camera to bulb mode, and a friend dropped the slice of lime, while i triggered the flash at 1/64 of full power. Proper coordination (and some trial and error) needed to get the perfect shot.

This isn't part of my official Project 50 challenge, but was taken during my search for the picture of the day. I'm not sure if this breaks the rules or not. I guess I'll have a few more than 50 shots at the end of the 50 days :)
Day 12
12 September 2010
We took a trip down to the outlet mall this afternoon and no trip is complete without a trip to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Pictured here is one of their outstanding Snickers candy apples.
Today is the day I start a new project. Project 50. After getting that final 365 photo uploaded I was anxious to jump on with something new, I've been waiting quite awhile for it but wasn't going to let myself start anything new without finishing what I had started. Project 50 is based on taking one photo a day, for 50 days with a 50mm lens.
My amazing Flickr friend Jeff is doing the project with me, and my lovely boyfriend Ryan, is trying for the second time.
The Rules (well, more or less Jeff came up with and I like them)
Black&White images must make up at least 1/2 of the project
Bokeh must be present in no less than 1/5 of the project
No self-portraits (Jeff is doing 52 weeks and I'm still holding out)
No camera phone images
No webcam shots
As for this shot, I go to school about 15 minutes from O'Hare and made a 'drive by' twice today. Once earlier in the afternoon just to check in out more or less and due to this absolutely fabulous, super overcast weather we're having right now, my photos from that trip did end so well. However, round number 2 went over quite a bit better (mucho bokeh). Wednesday I have another late class and I want to figure out how to park in the right area (its confusing) so I can get some *snap snaps* in front of the awesomely lit parking garage.
This is going to be fun, because if it's not, I will in fact quit. The point is to relax and not stress out about it, but at the same time, give myself a challenge.
:]

Although this does have a slight HDR look to it, it's not an HDR image. I boosted the contrast, clarity, and blacks to really bring out the details in the bench and grass and give it also a bit of a gritty feel.
Day 50/50
Finally finished! I planned to finish with a picture similar to the one i started on so here it is.
I'd like to say thankyou to every single person that has viewed, commented or favorited one of my pictures during this project and ever in fact. I do value every view i get (comments even more!) If this is the first time you've seen one of my pictures please take time to view the other 49 and comment/favorite till your little heart is content.
Should be getting a 50mm 1.8 for christmas so i will do a real project 50 in the new year, thankyou once again!
#PROJECT50. What is this you may ask? Well I have wanted to do a Flickr project for a while now and while talking to a friend I found out about Project 50. Rules are 50 different people, only capture 50 frames, with a 50 mm lens for 50 days!
Day one! I kinda cheated on this one doing a self portrait, but I figured I would start off with myself on the first day! Also my 50 mm prime lens has not come in the mail yet so I shot at 18mm so that I could get my max aperture...f/3.5 *sigh.*
In honor of summer in the month of October, I went out to the pool :) The warm weather is nice but boy I can't wait to wear a sweater again...while sipping coffee...and feeling the cool Autumn breezes...
So pretty much I can't wait for my new lens to come and to start this crazy project!
xoxo Meagan
