Hm, nem a legjobb képem, de éjjel 11-kor már elfogadható. :-)

Happy Birthday, Benny :)

I've got several strobist stuff. All the light stands, umbrellas and strobes are in a perfect condition because these things didn't left my home until now. After a game of chess we drove trough the local harbour yesterday evening to find a (photographic)well and shabby place for our first attempt.

It will be al long way to get as good as Joe I use hundred speedlights at the same time McNally ...

Played with a bit of Photoshop with this one, changing backgrounds, clear cutting, etc. I'm happy enough with it.

Project 50 Challenge - 32/50

This was a lot of fun. It's something I've wanted to try ever since I got a second strobe.

I ordered a travel mug (24-105mm - a focal length I don't have!) from eBay a little while ago. I received it, and put it to one side. This morning, I picked up a package that my sister took in for me while I was at work this week. A second travel mug, just the same as the first. I only ordered one and those darling people in Hong Kong sent me a second one by accident.

I was throwing in pebbles to get such a good splash, and had started with cold coffee, but then I sort of liked the effect that the steam had. Made it seem more real.

On a technical note, this shot uses two strobes. One SB-800 at 9 o'clock on 1/8th at 85mm zoom, orange gel. The SB-600 is at 4 o'clock through a soft box on 1/4 power at 70mm zoom. Triggered with Pocket Wizards as always.

Feedback very much appreciated. If you favourite, just leave a quick comment to let me know what you liked, please. I feel like Flickr is losing a lot of its interaction.

After running wild with my Mavica I picked up a Canon PowerShot G2 and started to learn off that. This was the first camera I owned that had manual controls.

I continued to use this camera all the way up till last Father's day when my family saw fit to give me my current camera a Canon 40D.

I've only been shooting with an SLR for a year and I only started with flash photography since October of 2008. As you can tell I have a ways to go but I'm having fun everyday.

For this photo, I wanted to show the beauty of this simple point and shoot so I simply lit it with just 1 flash in a shoot through umbrella to the right so that I could have the shadows fall off nicely camera left.

And yes my PowerShot is the black edition.

Boom and done..... so its all over my project 50, would i do it again yes but with alot of planning first, not knowing what i was doing day to day was a real pain in the arse, but it did let me try new things, thanks for following my project 50.

Today I was that person, sitting in Starbucks, writing my NaNoWriMo on my MacBook Air with my Moleskine and my camera and thought I was being the epitome of Flickr all at once.

Sorry no strobism today, but a landscape shot (not my usual genre).

50 photographs for 50 days with a 50mm lens. Project 50.

Project 50 - Day1

I have decided to give a fifty/50 type project a go.

I will attempt to produce 50 shots in 50 days using my 50mm lens(es)

The only rule I am going to impose on myself is the 50mm lens rule, anything else is allowed: Crops, Post Processing, filters - whatever (therefore my TtV is elligible for inclusion, as are analogue shots from my Olys!) as long as a 50mm lens was used to produce the shot (and I like it), it gets in ;)

This is taken in Flava, a nearby coffee shop in Gourock. I come here once or twice a week after my pre-work swim. The coffee shop looks out over the sea, and because the view is rather nice they tend to open up the large windows if the weather is okay (remember, this is Scotland!). This made for some nice light and reflections.

ISO 100, Aperture 14, Exposure 60.

Now that I've finished my week of self it's left me free to take a photo of whatever I wanted. So I took a photo of myself.

I've been completely converted to an Asics shoe person. I tried to wear my Nike Shox the other day and my feet were absolutely killing me.

Bottom line: running in Asics = running on a cloud. So wonderful.

50/50: Day 7

It got late on me yesterday so I didn't get a chance to post my shot ... but I'm a week into this 50/50 and it's been pretty fun so far. I've used different light sources and light modifiers to compose each image. I think this little project is not only going to help me get to know my 50mm better but my lighting gear as well. Good Stuff!!! =] ... Well I'm posting another food shot today. I think I like these the best because I get to eat the subject afterwards ... lol ... FOOD = YUMM!!!

Continuing the week of self. Not a double exposure, or any photoshop trickery here, just me standing in front of a mirror…

setup

This was a birthday present from my wife (then-girlfriend) last year. It's a little wooden box with a coffee shop scene inside and a working clock on the wall. Although we haven't had a battery in it for about 6 months, it's still an interesting little object. I set up a lightbox with four styrofoam panels for walls and my softbox overhead for most of the light. I also bounced a speedlight off the front wall for some even light and to kill any glare off the front glass of the box.

This was the last day of my project 50 and I did it!! I'm pretty tired and I have a backlog of pictures from the past 50 days to process. I've learned a lot about lighting and the best part is that I've started looking at things in my normal routine with new eyes. I'm especially excited about the strobist stuff I've gotten into and I think I'll continue spending some time learning about and making light modifiers like my two softboxes.

update ~ 5/23/09...

this flower is now withering away in the grass because some azz pulled it up and tossed in on the ground. mrchazman saw it when he went out to get the paper this morning.

so...this morning...i'm feeling a tad bit blue...just like the flowers.

today is my last day of the project 50 assignment i have given myself. i had begun to feel disconnected from myself and my camera. i have let many body issues as well stresses and strains get in my way as of late. this was an attempt to let all of that go. or at least try to.

i am not new to this selfie process as i did a whole year of selfies. i had no idea what the hell i was doing though, so they were mostly arm's length shots with an accompanying little story. this time, i got to really let my inspirations and environment influence my art.

although this little project has sucked some of the inspiration up from my regular old photography, it has also given me a new found respect for me and my camera working together and attempting to make my visions a reality, which as we all know, is very hard to do.

i have gotten flickrmails and emails and comments about how much this project has inspired some of you. and i want to say thanks for that. but you all inspire me so much more than you will ever know, and this project is about that and the love and community and friendship i feel for all of you, most who i have never even met.

and i was so inspired by this little adventure, i am going to pop a black and white selfie in here and there for good measure. 50 shots were definitely not enough for me to express myself in this way.

keep telling stories because that is what we all are, storytellers. and i will, too ;)

So at just gone midnight I get a text from Erica saying "Hello, you don't happen to be in, awake and wanting coffee do you?" well duh… I'm Rick so I reply "Yes, yes & yes."

The long and the short of it is that we drank some coffee, had a catch up and I took a photo of a horse riding a mother fucking clock! I don't understand it, but I like it.

I didn't have a chance to upload yesterday as I've just been kinda swamped.

That being said, I'm not going to catch you up on what was mostly work yesterday anyway.

I did, however, see a bit of a bicyclanomaly while I was out for a minute last night. The image in my brain had to come home with me so I could share.
