So I'm half way done with Project 50 and I'm really surprised I made it this far. I'm in my second week of the fall semester and I'm already a little stressed out. I'll be fine it's just a matter of getting back into a routine of things and having time sucked up with studying.
Workflow - Merged images with exposure values of -3, 0, and 3 in Photomatix to create an HDR image in order to bring out the detail in the clock. I then added a sepia tone by blending a black and white layer to the HDR image in Photoshop CS4.
Today I visited Brendan in Gourock for a lunchtime smoothie (which you can see the remnants of in the pic). He's a hairdresser, so we hung out in his salon for a bit while he randomly cut my hair. I think my shutter speed should have been faster, and the background is also overexposed, but I don't really give a shit. So there.
ISO 100, Aperture 2.2, Exposure 60.

When sharing the CSS of my new website (coming in the next couple of weeks) with a friend he made a direct comparisom between it & art… I thought that was pretty cool.
And yes I know it's a bit out of focus, it's hard focusing on a bright bright screen in pitch black & I have things to do!

had such a good day today. some things that needed to happen did. and other unexpected stuff, too.
(and i am posting outtakes because i usually never like pictures of myself, but today, i did. trying to remain more positive).
This is the windbreaker I usually wear when riding my motorbike to and from work. Although it's usually ridiculously hot in HCMC, the windbreaker blocks the sun and keeps my shirts clean when riders ahead splash through rain puddles. After talking with my friend adam about side-lighting the other day, I wondered if I could get a good side-lit picture in my small new house. I think the answer is "yes" although the windbreaker is made of semi-reflective material and it caught too much light on the left side.

I was laying on the bed...and I guess Sheeba wanted some attention. She was practically screaming at me. Darn cats.
Say hello to Mollie!

This project was quite interesting! There was a lot of catching up with friends I haven't seen in a long time. More than a handful of parties made of win! Afternoons with some of my friends spent laughing our asses off! Woooh. It was a whirlwind!
Cheers, Project 50! I'm signing off!

I got my self a nice new Addict T today from the boys at Yak Clothing. I likes it.

What can I say about this weekend, other than the fact I've had one of the best weekends ever.
I've had a chance to hang out with Rick, have him give me great pointers on my pics, play around with his sexy fisheye, see what difference strobes can make to the simplest of shots (this very one was looking completely different before we brought in a speedlite), and introduce someone else to the wonder that is Rainbow Six: Vegas.
Throughout all of that, we consumed LOTS of coffee.

I've been really really craving skating for a few days now, I thought playing some Skate on the xbox would help but hasn't. I know I shouldn't & I'll try my best not to but…

I was in Fake Bake today getting treatment that will make me sound very vein. I had laser teeth whitening (yowza), which I thought was going to be very painful, but turned out to be relatively pain free. Ambience is everything in these places, so lots of lovely lighting was littered throughout.
ISO 100, Aperture 2.5, Exposure 60.
Actually, only two. I had very different plans for this photo, but in the end I settled for something extremely minimal with a shallow depth of field. However, there is something else worth looking for in the background. I'd like to see if anyone can guess what it is, but I doubt it.
This is for Project 50, my first ever project where I have to take a photo each day for 50 days using my 50mm lens. My friend, Rick, is also doing it.
ISO 100, Aperture 1.8, Exposure 60.
50/50: Day 3
We either have a family game or movie night each week. Kinda cheezy, but it's cool just to hang out. This week was game night & we played Scrabble ... I lost ... I guesses I can'ts spellz the werdz gooder =[ ... haha ... Why do they always have to challenge my plays, yeah I'll make words up sometimes but they sound totally legit ... lol ... I wanted to play mexican bingo instead because it'll hold my attention w/ all the colorful pictures =]

Shot this in one because it was wet and my gear was getting soaked. I was worried about my soft box blowing over. And my fucking camera wouldn't autofocus on me and it made me want to kick it around the garden.
I was completely pissed off taking this but it came out better than I thought. Shame about the reflection in my glasses, but it was that or jack in the project. I'm feeling completely flat about this at the moment.

So I crashed a wedding for my photo of the day. Not really, but sort of. The wedding party just happened to come out as I was walking past the cathedral in town. So I joined the rest of the wedding guests and took a few shots of the brand new bride and groom.

Not very mindful today.. reading my mail while eating breakfast.
Technical stuff: I didn't compensate in Lightroom with luminance for the high ISO/noise, don't find it very disturbing. And I liked this dof better than my testshots at lower f-stops.
The latest update to Leopard was released earlier this week and while I updated all of the official Macs I held off on the hackint0sh till today just incase something went wrong. Guess what, nothing went wrong. The update went smoothly. I'm not getting the extended battery performance that is being circulated around the net though.
Here I just wanted to show the difference in size between a MacBook and a MSI Wind. If you thought the MacBook was small think again!
For setup I placed a 550EX behind the MacBook and pointed it directly at the wall. I noticed that I had some light spill towards the right edge of the Wind. I controlled that by placing one of my daughter's puzzle boxes to block that side from the flash.
For key light I wanted to do an overhead light simulation but I have no boom but I do have a tripod so I decided just to put the camera on the tripod and hand hold the light stand myself.
In order to prevent contamination of the key light to the background light I covered up the top portion of the umbrella and just left the lower part exposed.
The camera's shutter and ISO where selected to control the LCD of the computers. Everything else is lit by the 430EX.
Strobist info:

It pisses me off when people lie. I guess being a person with a lot of pride and dignity, I feel like someone's taking me for a mug if I'm lied to. I'll likely hold it against you forever, but the solution is simple... Just don't lie to me ;) So... Yeah! I don't want to hear your lies.
On another note, I can't wait to get a Speedlite for Christmas. I feel my photos aren't as crisp as they could be if I had better light to play around with.
This is Raeha, a fellow (female!) film major :) She rocks the pixie cut and her eyes are beautiful...
The lens I used today was way cool! Still a 50 mm, but a 1.4 aperture which was great for getting the background the way I wanted it. The focus was a bit challenging, but I am getting used to checking the photos for focus and not relying on auto focus for every shot. I am realizing that I know nothing about photography and it is really fun to learn. So much to know and absorb myself in!

I have a lot of shoes for a woman with no real interest in clothing. You will have noticed that they are all flat, all are pretty unflashy, most are skate shoes. If I was permitted to wear shoes like this to work, I'd be delighted.

It was pretty funny that @photosip took a photo of Claudia's Tiramisu at the same time @monatheism made some as well. So I'm like ZOMG #battle time.
For whatever reason I decided I would do something a bit different with it. Instead of just shooting it as is, I had this bright idea to freeze it for a bit then cut it up into slices and alternate the slices with mascarpone to build up some height, only to totally cut the height down with a freaking bowl! D'oh! Then I thought hmm I should top it off with something bright... a maraschino cherry!
I tried it afterwards and well... you gotta wonder what the hell you got to be smoking to come up with stuff like this. That's why the only I do in the kitchen is make a bowl of cereal.... yep.

Saturday night… nice and easy one, not very exciting but it's exactly what I'm doing with myself. Playing Xbox & "surfing the web"… do people still say "surfing the web"?
Shot with flash through umbrella at 1/4 then adjusted in Lightroom to blow out the whites a little, eliminating any traces of the umbrella. Not much tweaking at all really.
Falun Gong is a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline that is Buddhist in nature. It consists of moral teachings for daily life, a meditation, and four gentle exercises.
While Falun Gong is practiced openly in 70 countries, today in its homeland of China it is subject to severe human rights violations. The scale and scope of abuses taking place make it possibly the largest religious persecution in the world today.
