Pilgrims in a pine temple

Wandering into the silent and bear-black forest, the silvered sliver of a hooking moon set, we filled every silent space with amber-toothed, snarling phantoms and held them at bay with nips of cognac and the click of the shutter. Silhouettes under pearlescent starlight, the big trees are primeval minarets, spires of the oldest and grandest cathedral on Earth. We moved reverently, slowly - pilgrims in a pine temple come in the dark to play witness.

Some amongst these trees were old when men lashed Andromeda to the briny rocks and awaited the leviathan. We've filled the interceding centuries with other lambs led to slaughter, and emerging from darkness, discovered her still radiant, shackled to a constellation that is dying in a corner of the sky. Then as now, we are infants amongst giants, in wonder at skies the big trees have seen reel a million times, shades passing in the night. These are the days of miracle and wonder indeed.

We headed into the Sierras looking for a winter adventure, hoping for giant, snow-bound sentinels holding winter in great, fragrant handfuls. Instead we found beautiful, unseasonable warmth and clear night skies amongst the carpeted and ancient groves. We came for the snow and found so much more in its absence.</p

Today I chose to wear a denim skirt, tights, turtleneck and sweater with my flats for my errands, which included the pharmacy, post office, gas station and nail salon. My tech was thrilled to see me looking so feminine, and said she'd like for me to be dressed this girly every time I visit her.

Because of my feminine outfit, she said today was my day for a full set of red acrylics. But I somehow convinced her to just go with the regular French fill. She agreed, but insisted that I can't leave the shop without girly nails to match my outfit. So, in place of red, she chose a pretty iridescent pearl UV-cured polish, which she told me would be as feminine, and almost as noticeable as, red.

So, my fingernails all became pretty pearlescent! And she's right, they're feminine....

She reminded me that to leave them alone till my next fill will save me a lot of work trying to remove the pearlescent color, and anything I do may mess up my nails in the process. She chose the color to look attractive with anything I wear. But, if I really feel the need for change, my only choice will be to paint over them with another color...she'll happily do this for me if I stop by wearing the dress or skirt I need to match. Or I can get whatever colors I like at the pharmacy and do it myself. She highly recommended that approach - every girl should own lots of different colors of polish, and many change their nail color nightly, to match the next day's outfit, as they watch their favorite shows on the telly.

Good thing I like the color she applied. I've decided to just wear it till my next fill, then let her re-apply it for me, since I'm not quite ready to start painting my nails every night. Yet. But she insists that day will come...

But now that I'm wearing nail color full time, she showed me bottles of pretty pastel blues and pinks for my hands starting about Easter, and a really attention-grabbing shade of hot pink she wants to give me with a pedicure later this spring. Once I'm fully equipped with girly nail colors, she tells me that I'll probably start painting them on my own between fills, just like the other girls.... Then she showed me a blue to match my denim skirt, or a white to match my sweater. We girls gotta have our nails match our outfit, whether we're wearing skirts, dresses, leggings or capris!

When I left the shop, she again complimented my pretty nails, told me she's thrilled that I'm getting more comfortable in skirts, and she hopes that soon I'll be wearing them all day, every day. Then she reminded me to be careful with my nails till they're fully dry later this afternoon, And before I left, she decided to take a picture of me, so I can remember my day.

It was a really fun visit, and her support is legendary!

My LE Wedding Cinderella Doll has been fully deboxed. She is posed standing, supported by the included display stand. With her floor length multi-layered skirt she should be able to free stand, but I didn't haven't tried to stand her that way. She is photographed from all angles.

On my second attempt to get the Limited Edition Wedding Cinderella 17'' Doll from eBay, I finally got her! I got her with the help of a fellow collector. She is #450 of 500, and was originally sold by the Japan Disney Store. There is a Japanese sticker on the bottom of the box. She was shipped double boxed, and very well packed. She arrived in perfect condition.

She is very beautiful, and has a serene expression, rather than the grumpy pout of the LE Ballgown Cinderella doll. Her lips have a slight smile, which is part of why she has a more pleasant expression than the other doll, who shares the same face mold. She is glancing in the opposite direction of the Ballgown Cinderella, and her skin has a matte surface, rather than the shiny pearly surface of the Ballgown doll. Her pale yellow wedding gown has many differently sized and colored rhinestones enhancing the printed floral pattern. There are also several small jeweled plastic butterflies in the skirt, hidden amongst the flowers. The decorations continue throughout the back of the dress. There are also faux pearl buttons on her sleeves and on the back of her bodice. Her skirt is very full with a long train, and is in three differently colored layers. Under her skirts is a 3/4 length single layer tulle petticoat. Attached to her hair is an oversized pale yellow sheer chiffon veil. She has golden earrings and a jeweled golden tiara. Her wedding ring is a floral design with five golden beads; it is pinned to her hand. She has the old style legs, with fixed ankles. She is wearing simple ivory heels, with no decorations.

I will be posting a full set of detailed photos of this doll. She will be shown boxed, during deboxing, and fully deboxed, both by herself and with other Disney Store dolls.

Cute little diecast Ambulance which appears to be LOOSELY based on a Ford Transit MK7. Imported into the U.K. by HTI these Chinese made models are becoming an increasingly common sight in their range and are usually sold under the Teamsterz brand. They are nothing more than toys but certainly have some charm and to be quite honest are actually very well finished for its budget price with a nice pearlescent white paintwork and crisp bodywork features. Part of a two vehicle set currently available in Poundland. Mint and boxed.

We were treated to a light show from our back window this morning in the form of these pearlescent nacreous clouds (which look amazing but are apparently not a great thing environmentally).

Tribute shot to jellyb321 who gave me the idea to take a sky shot, which led to me noticing this stratospheric phenomena on a day when I might otherwise have been too busy sorting out the morning tasks to have looked!

BrickLink: Satin Trans-Purple

Introduced in 2020 with Friends Play Cubes. It's a microglitter effect molded into the plastic that gives a very pearlescent look.

See the yellow Rose of Texas? Godspeed, Emily Morgan! (The Victorian language of flowers is fascinating...never give a yellow rose unless you mean to start a quarrel...)

So the flickr app betrayed me and put my description in the title. So, here are some odds and ends I'll be bringing to BFVA to hopefully trade with. I'll be there on Sunday.

Brickarms- GiTD minigun, trans neon-green minigun, trans orange minigun, silver chrome garand, silver chrome Enfield, blue chrome tac sword, red chrome tac sword, purple acr, purple heavy sniper, desert camo acr, some sort of green pearlescent steel pot helmet, and a red scar with black tiger stripe camo.

Clone army customs- yellow (not gold) chrome rocket launcher. Pink commando pistol (not pictured)

Minifig cat- some pearl dark green alien pistol, I think it's from gears of war.

Mega Bloks (yea I know, heresy) brute with pearlescant brass armor

Not pictured is a gold plated tac sword from the brickarms mystery pack vol. 2, but that's because I seem to have misplaced it at the moment. I hope to have it with me at BFVA.

Description:

Deboxing the Designer SQ Elsa and Hans Doll Set. Prince Hans has been fully deboxed. He is posed free standing.

I have finally deboxed the Designer Fairytale Snow Queen Elsa and Hans Doll Set (2015). My set is #4597 of 6000. It was the only set that I didn't get at the Disney Store raffle, so I had to order her online. I show the set boxed, during deboxing and fully deboxed. After deboxing them, I place them back on their display stand, in a different pose.

I was a little surprised that Elsa has the body construction of the 2012 DS Classic Princess dolls, so has external hinged knee joints and ankle joints. It makes her legs a bit unsightly when they are exposed by opening the slit of the skirt. She has shiny pearlescent skin that is similar to the Harrods Elsa doll, but doesn't have the heavy blush. Her Snow Queen outfit also has embellishments that are more similar to that of the Harrods Elsa rather than that of the LE 2500 Snow Queen Elsa. But rather than the jeweled snowflakes of the 17'' LE Elsa she has single clear rhinestones throughout her braid, and a few on her head. The snowflake and icicle design in her cape are printed rather than embroidered (as in the 17'' LE Elsas) or glittered (as in the Classic Elsa). They are flat and smooth, and I don't think are as effective in depicting ice.

The major embellishments of Designer Hans over Classic Hans are the addition of white gloves, and a sword. However, It's disappointing that there is no scabbard for the sword - it is loosely sewn to his pants legs, which looks rather cheap.

I will show the dolls in side by side comparisons to other Elsa and Hans dolls in future postings.

This creepy haute couture lizard for Halloween is Phelsuma, a OOAK Inamorata art doll with Nnaji head sculpt and Andro bust type in Charcoal resin.

Her highly editorial make up has a pearlescent green scale pattern running from her brow to the back of her head, red and gold lips, rust coloured eyes and wild eyeshadow covering her brow with multi coloured leaf gold. The look is finished with green sequins as bindi and below her eyes.

The translucent netting dress is a hand stitched with thick scaly clusters of red and green sequins and beads to accentuate feminine form. The netting boots with Classic Stiletto heels have a line of red sequins running down the back seam.

Nomia maneii. Rare sand loving bee from Maryland. The Nomia group has lots of taxonomically similar characteristics but, to the eye, the facet that often hits you in the face are pearlescent bands of white to blue to green (just like abalone sometimes) on the abdomen. In the case of N. maneii, blue. Otherwise this particular species can be found in sandy spots and as a general pattern many of this group are in open often desert areas. Photos taken by Orr Uzan-Tidhar (visiting from College of the Atlantic) and Grace Schilling (new technician) who are learning the trade.

All pictures are public domain! Use as you wish.

12-D-38993 just after arriving from EvoBus, it was painted a pearlescent white which gave a purple or green hue to the paint depending on the light. It has Setra 60th Anniversary graphics applied which were removed later in the day, so I snapped this before I moved it into the garage for the sign writers to apply temporary Dublin Coach graphics and FleetConnect to fit Wifi before it went out on service 2 days later - I took it on its inaugural run, the 07:45 Dublin-Ennis on the 10/12/13, the first day of the route expansion to Ennis.

Next to it, just in frame, was the then unregistered King Long, which arrived 5 months late, in the wrong colour. It's as if someone described the colour green to a colour blind painter.

Has this bus got lost in the Highlands somewhere? You wouldn't believe we're just 10-15 minutes or so from the centre of Edinburgh would you? In a scene that could be in the heartlands of Perthshire it's actually the terminus for Service 10 at Torphin. The succulent redcurrant bush in this turning circle is beautiful and the berries look nearly ripe for the making of redcurrant jelly soon.

From Falkirk, this is Alexander Dennis's Enviro 400 Hybrid, number 213 (SN61 BCE), one of fifteen new vehicles Lothian has purchased with support from a £5million fund from the Scottish Government as part of a Scottish Green Bus foundation to promote eco-green public transport.

Lothian's new Hybrids are painted not in the usual red and white 'classic' livery but in Radiance Red over Winter Gold i.e. the standard weinrot und weis colours are changed for a pearlescent paint version.

If you would like to view all of Lothian's Enviro fleet then follow this set which is in numerical order:

It's been a while! Here is Kiki and the Mums' 21st custom faceup, Guinevere!

Ashley Townsend-Motter approached us with a doll project which she had for a while. She wasn't too sure about the character she had created and so, gave us full artistic liberty to do what we imagined for the doll. We had been interested in trying some new things for a while and so took this as the perfect opportunity to do so.

Ashley wanted Guinevere to be like a medieval lady, but given her colourful wig, we decided to go with a more fantasy look. Her facial features are loosely based on Olivia Hussey, the actress who played the 1968's film adaption of William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet".

Guinevere is Kiki and the Mums' most colourful custom yet, with rainbow blush that includes pink, red, magenta, violet and blue. She has dazzling light green-gold eyes framed by expressive purple eyebrows that give her a thoughtful expression. Her lips are a vibrant shade of rosy pink, with a slight iridescent shimmer. Her eyelids feature fantastical hand-painted swirling pearlescent patterns, inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's famous "Starry Night". It only seemed appropriate that such a lovely girl had eyelids like the wondrous galaxies that appear in our night sky.

Guinevere was truly a pleasure to work on and we hope she makes Ashley very happy.

Nacreous clouds tonight at and after sunset. Fantastic to see, I've only seen them once before and hadn't a clue what I was looking at then. They are high altitude clouds that refract the last of the sun through ice crystals.

This is a set of tea, painted on a blue/violet pearlescent ombre, with paintings of dragons and golden handlers.

The big teapot is completely functional and has a music box on its basement. Such a delicate set.

I have no information on how this was acquired.

Testing interference and pearlescent watercolor paints on black (india ink stained cold press).

It was a challenge and strange because it was completely opposite to how I paint with watercolors.

The Gran Turismo video game seems to have spun off quite a number of outlandish concept vehicles from various motor manufacturers, most of them covered by Majorette recently, but it seems Norev got the chance to model the GT by Citroen for their official merchandised diecast series.

Gleaming from its highly chromed wheels and pearlescent white paint finish this is a top notch little model for budget money and makes you wonder why Norev hasn't become much more widely available here in the UK and other European countries. Mint and boxed.

At first there was only you ahead,

your silhouette racing as the colors bled

from a partly cloudy sky.

We tumbled out onto the sand

and you ran into the fading light

while I slowed to catch my breath;

the beauty of this sight -

the rich pearlescent hues that you could

wade and stumble into -

the mirror of the sand, the feel of your hand

in mine as you returned with elation,

and we stood in this creation of the world

where the blue waves crashed,

where the sun dipped past

the horizon, where the only thing fastening

the sea to sky

was you and I.

(Sunset at Oswald West State Park in Oregon. For the Flickr On Location group, a very short video of this scene may be found here.)

Now looking much cleaner than the previous debut edition is the latest 2018 recolour of the Matchbox 2015 BMW i3. A shimmering pearlescent white paint covers the akward but oh so unique body and helps amplify its casting qualities and great front and rear detailing which stretches to badges, lights and grille. One of many bought from ASDA back in June though not much else to report since then seen as we Brits are now stuck on Case G!

Mint and boxed.

Pulling out an oldie. I spotted this beautiful clamshell catching the light along the beach of Lake Ontario in the summer of 2010. It's pearlescent pink tones were a great contrast to the deep blue tones of the water.

BrickLink: Satin Trans-Dark Pink

Introduced in early 2020 with Disney Princess and Trolls sets. It's a microglitter effect molded into the plastic that gives a very pearlescent look. Even better in person :)

A weird second stab at Gocco using pearlescent postcards from the Bureau shop near Leicester Square in London. Still not sure they hold the ink well, but you live and learn. Lots of cross images here - maybe Amy needs saving?

Vinyl wrapped in pearlescent orange hopefully this shocker won't keep my flickr friends awake tonight. Done for a promotional trip to the South of France. Restored and tastefully painted in Shell over Tudor Grey this venerable lady was valued about ten years ago at £30.000. She went for a third of that at the sale.

I would like to resubmit this for the paper challenge!

Hero Arts Supplies Used: Stamps (CL236) and Gemstones. There are four stamps used! The pine bough in the corners, the sentment, a tree in the pp strips, and the tree toppers are cut out of one of the ornament designs!

Other Supplies:

Papers: Bazzil card stock; Cosmo Cricket Dutch Girl pp (2nd layer and sentiment layer); top pp layer is Foofala (love the vintage look!).

Inks: SU ( Old Olive & Purely Pomegranate) and Archival Brilliance Pearlescent Ice Blue.

Embellies: Buttons (Basic Grey & Rusty Pickle); SU twine, Sandylion Kelly Panacci tree stickers.

Thanks for looking and for an awesome challenge! LOVE shabby!

Compare this to the equivalent Hot Wheels version and its very easy to see why the products of Majorette are so highly praised by adult collectors who are getting a bit tired of the strange contraptions coming from the Mattel brands. This is beautifully proportioned which captures the rounded and cheeky charms of the real vehicle with its fully painted lights and badging, accurate interior and glossy pearlescent white finish. These can still be found in certain U.K. stores such as Toyland, Morrisons and now Poundworld. Mint and boxed.
