Flagpole, I noticed this oily, rainbow (pearlescent?) effect quite a few times on the immediate coastline, (mainly metal objects) I think it must be a reaction with the saltwater....??....standard handheld shot, tickled in Snapseed and uploaded, all on iPhone.

The prediction was that pearlescent clouds would be visible on Christmas Eve, but unfortunately too much and too thick clouds, so no pearlescent clouds.

Just a cloud...

I thought I’d shoot this as it looked lovely against the blue sky, with the setting sun behind it. When I uploaded from my camera to my iPad, I realised that there were pearlescent edges around the cloud: Wiki informs me it’s a type of photometeor, a topic in atmospheric optics...Apparently, this phenomenon is caused by individual water droplets or ice particles diffracting sunlight.

Aye, I just thought it was a wee fluffy cloud.

I almost called this shot, “Lenticular Iridescence” but thought that was a little pretentious...Well, it IS named after the shape of a lentil...😉

There are pink spots on the plastic parts of the instruments, I really dislike them, but this is not digital noise, but a pearlescent coating. I've tried removing them, but the patterns can be damaged.

...came across this gorgeous looking paint finish yesterday...

This downy rattlesnake plantain is a fascinating plant in so many ways. First off, notice the very pretty but also very tiny pearlescent flowers tucked together toward the top of a downy supporting stalk. These uncommon woodland orchids form a symbiotic mycorrhizal relationship with certain fungi in the neighborhood so they share needed nutrients and minerals. The leaves of this downy rattlesnake plantain are even more amazing than the flowers and maybe I'll post a photo later this fall since they are evergreen. The photo won't be from this particular plant though since this flowering stage signals the swan song for the leaf cluster below and the plant as we know it here is sentenced to die when it finally blooms after living many years in a vegetative state.

Pearlvine Milkweed (Matelea reticulata) is a vine in the Milkweed family with heart-shaped leaves, five green netted petals, and a curious opalescent center.

A jewel, cradled in a safety net, surrounded by hearts of love.

The plant is an endemic--that is, it grows only in the Texas hill country. Like other milkweeds it is a host plant for the Queen and Monarch butterflies.

They are edge plants, growing where the forest meets sunlight, requiring not dappled light, but both shade and sun. It grows in the trees along one of my paths.
