Thursday May 30, 2002 journal entry:
It is now that time in late afternoon when the air at the beach turns pearlescent and shimmery. The sea is a deep lavender while the wet sand up to the high water mark glows blue and green, mixed with ribbons of pink, reflecting the sky and trees like a slick of oil.
There is a post with a shower head sticking up out of the sand near where I sit. Every 1.5 seconds a single drop of water jumps from its lip, lights up like a tiny lightbulb with the late afternoon sunlight and turns the white sand at the bottom of the post brown. There is a large group of Thai children playing football nearby and the sound of their jubilation mixes with the choppy engine roars of the longtails.
I was just visited by a stray black mongrel, and I took his photo.
The real Jeep Scrambler was basically a long wheelbase version of the CJ-8 produced from 1981 to 1986 and even counted the late Ronald Reagan as a one time owner. Its no surprise to see one in the Hot Wheels range and indeed its already had quite a number of recolours in the past few years culminating in this rather striking pearlescent green version which appeared in 2016. Making an interesting alternative to the usual standard CJ Jeeps most toy manufacturers chose it is very well proportioned with a very well sculptured front end. Part of an interesting Snow Stormers themed set bought from ASDA back in November 2016. Mint and boxed.

Motifs actually not my taste, but paper was a gift
Cutting was quite a challenge and took weeks.
I used the complete sheet of gift wrap.
Background was sponged with pearlescent colours.
Wardrobe will end as a present for a little girl - when she is old enough not to murder it with crayons etc.
Looking good in this pearlescent white finish is this Lexus IS 250 model by Yatming. When they originally went on sale in Wilkinsons a few years ago they were probably one of the cheapest licensed 1/64 range you could buy in the U.K. Prices have now crept up to Realtoy levels though still obviously cheaper than Hot Wheels and Matchbox models. Mint and boxed.
Not an easy radio to find...but when it is found it's more commonly found under the Realtone name (model G-601 - six transistor circuit) and Kobe Kogyo (model KT-6) Occasionally found branded as Brighton, Shalco, Million (model # G-401, obviously a 4 transistor circuit) . It has been reported from a very reliable source that this radio was made by Tokai.
This one was re-branded as a Realistic for Radio Shack. I'm still flipping through some Radio Shack catalogs to determine what year it was sold, most likely 1959.
It has the look and feel of many Japanese transistor radios. Sports a dense/thick plastic, large tuning capacitor (not a miniature Mitsumi), simple and elegant design.
The circuit diagram inside the back cover shows the four transistors and one diode as the older oval shapes but the ones used are "TEN" brand cylindrical ones.
A classy looking radio. It feels well made, heavy and solid. Still plays OK too.
The front right half of the radio is covered by a thick pearlescent plastic. It's not easy to see in the photo but it really does have a substantial pearl-like quality to it.
The large thumbwheel tuning dial is neatly inset into the cabinet and the speaker grill's gold finish adds a bit of extra class.
Polymer clay and mica powder beads. See my blog for more information and a free tutorial for making these: fulgorine.wordpress.com/2014/11/07/pearls-of-polymer-clay/

Thanks to fellow collector Steve Poroszlay for pointing out that this was originally released by Kobe Kogyo in 1957 as their 1st transistor radio (model # KT-6).

A stunning silver 458 Italia at the Hotel Hanford in Costa Mesa, CA before Targa Trophy Experience #2. I'd rather get a 458 in yellow or the Tour de France Blue, but this color was absolutely gorgeous in person.
Owner is the guy in the white shirt, really cool guy, answered all my questions about his 458.

This little journal was created with winter in mind - the cover is white with pearlescent floral decoration, and the spine heavyweight silver paper. The decoration on the front came from an old botany book, and I made a photocopy and then did a tape transfer to stick the image on the cover. The Endpapers are hand-marbled by me in blues, greens and yellows.

After feeling blinded by the intense pearlescent colors, I wanted to go back to simple, elegant, white.
This room had a soft pearlescent/metallic effect on the walls and ceilings. We painted the ornate scrollwork on the ceiling to compliment the trim color.
Very slick but inexpensive 1/64 model of the Porsche 918 by Double Horses. Its part of a suitably impressive range of 3 inch diecasts made by this company which mainly use modern vehicles and are realistically finished in believable colours and often feature painted external features and interiors. This Porsche 918 uses its shimmering pearlescent white colour to good effect and is so well cast it is very easy to imagine it being in someone else's range such as Matchbox, Realtoy or Majorette. Part of a 12 vehicle set bought directly from China. Mint and boxed.
I was inspired by Susanne Nilsson. In her interview, Susanne mentioned that she likes to color in images with pencils and she also likes to emboss, so I decided to use both techniques in this card. She also said that two of her favorite "go-to" colors are pink and orange. And she used the new Hero Arts Wallpaper Flowers stamp that I just love. She also said she likes sparkle on cards, which I added using some pearlescent pink ink. I just love how this card turned out! :-)
I made this necklace using my handmade polymer clay beads, green crystal and glass seed beads.
For the focal beads I made natasha beads from a stroppel cane stack, covered them with mica powder and then shaved off sections once they were baked.

Extremely purposeful looking and accurately cast model of a recent generation Ford Focus ST. Made by Realtoy who have long been masters of the high quality low cost diecast it is certainly impressive enough for me to buy a few examples every time I see them in Tesco which explains the high numbers of both colours in my collection. Recently shorn of its inaccurate ST-R badging in favour of the standard ST monikor sadly little else has changed since its introduction though this casting is definitely very well suited to this pearlescent white colour with contrasting blue stripes. Mint and boxed.

I owned this from January 2005 to September 2007. Far and away the quickest, most comfortable and poshest car I've ever owned, although it was also the car that nearly bankrupted me through numerous, undiagnosable, niggly faults which required a trip to the specialist and his bloody computer every few weeks. Maybe I should have stuck with that MkII Golf GTI, from an era when cars were made properly.
The alloys were off a 1999 A4 1.8T quattro Sport, which I'd always liked. I've kept them, just in case.
I'd like to introduce everyone to Claire, a commission for Emily Jepsen. Claire is an adorable little girl, who I imagine could probably turn into a golden cat or fox. She's kept her secrets to herself though! But her eyes are luminous and striking just like a cat. She's a little mischievous and certainly is not above using her cuteness to get what she wants!
We were given free range on how Claire could look, so I decided to go with a completely new style. This was Emily's first custom doll, so I wanted Claire to be quite special. I really wanted her to be adorable, but in a distinctive and unique way.
This new faceup style gives Claire a beautiful pair of droopy doe eyes. However, her dark eye makeup doesn't weigh her down; they instead make her molten gaze stand out. The rest of her faceup is quite light, with golden eyebrows, light blush and full pink lips. Her eyelids are a stunning mix of pearlescent purple and pink.
We hope you like her!

1/1400 scale model by AMT. Model is lit by grain-of-wheat bulbs. included in the kit. The kit is molded in clear plastic and the paint is removed from window ports after the final overspray of Testors pearlescent clear blue metallic followed by a shot of Dullcote.lacquer giving the hull a metallic satin finish. The instructions said to scratch out the paint in the window openings but I used denatured alcohol and a cotton swab for a better result. Before the paint went on though I filled the windows with Microscale liquid mask making it easier to remove the paint at the end.

For some reason, I picked out colours to work with that I never use. I' m not fond of old lady pink, but I actually quite like this ring. I had never used pearlescent clay before, either, although I admire the whole mica shift thing too. It's a very subtle and elegant effect. This ring is not in any way subtle...

Being restored by my neighbour, Leo has just passed his MOT and is back on the road. His restoration has taken about three years and is 'slightly' non-standard with a white 'Cooper' style roof. It's the paint job that really shows though, fantastic.

The Turbo Titan III looked like nothing that anyone had ever seen. The futuristic cab incorporated a massive, panoramic windshield, while two gaping nacelles on each side of the cab helped feed air into the turbine engine. Adding to the futuristic look were gullwing-style windows, pop-out headlamps and turn signals, and a plush interior, sans a steering “wheel.” As strange as it looks, instead of a conventional wheel, the driver steered the Titan III with one of two large dials mounted in front of him.
The Turbo Titan’s chassis was rather conventional, except for its powertrain. GM employed their new-at-the-time GT-309 turbine engine, and connected it to a six-speed Allison automatic transmission. While GM touted the engine produced 280 horsepower, its true selling point was the unbelievable low-end, freight-moving torque. When the engine’s output shaft approached stall speed, (the point at which a turbine engine produces the most torque), it could produce as much as 875 lb-ft of torque.
Although engineers actually drove the truck from coast to coast several times, the truck itself was little more than a promotional vehicle. Ultimately, it was scrapped when GM no longer felt that turbine power was feasible. At one time, they promised to offer a gas turbine engine in a few commercial vehicles between 1971 and 1973, but the turbine’s propensity to gulp fuel and rising oil prices, forced GM to scrap the idea altogether.
The Turbo Titan III utilized a fiberglass and steel combination for cab construction, and was painted in a Pearlescent White. The styling theme extended to cover the chassis, which was completely concealed by molded-fiberglass panels. There were doors mounted on both sides of the truck, just ahead of the rear wheels that allowed access to dual batteries and the turbine engine when the cab was electrically tilted. The headlight pods mounted on each side of the truck were retractable, and were mounted within functional air intakes.
Inside, space-age seats with full headrests were mounted on each side of a center console, and a production-line sourced automatic shifter handle was mounted in the console. Long trips can be boring without some music, so a four-speaker FM radio and a two-way telephone was installed.
