Doll in photo:
Girl of the Year 2009 Chrissa Maxwell
Chrissa's Sundress, on the left, was quite inspiring to design earrings for. It sports the most pastel of polka dot patterns, and is adorned with a fabric flower on the waistband. I knew there was a lot I could do with this ensemble. But I wanted to keep the earrings light and delicate (for me...I have a gaudy style). It seemed an obvious choice to incorporate the polka dot shape and the flower from the waistband. Fortunately, I have tons of these ball beads in different colors. I didn't have a periwinkle set of beads, but this translucent purple still suited. The pearlescent green beads were a recent purchase from Walmart's 98 cent baggies. I have them in several different sizes, but the largest one worked best for this pair of earrings. I added the tiny peach clay earrings to compliment the fabric flower. I got these in the kids' craft section at Michael's with a gift card. I put them on jump rings instead of stacking them on head pins (where the floral shape would get lost). While these earrings are quite intricate, I feel the color choice and small sized flowers don't overpower Chrissa's Sundress.
I know that NOBODY wears special earrings to go swimming. But Chrissa is a fashion model...she's not actually taking this ensemble to the pool. And if I catch her swimming in it, I won't be very happy with her. I do like to coordinate all the earrings I make for a Girl of the Year doll, since their outfits are part of a cohesive wardrobe. That's why I used a similar construction method and more of those clay flowers. This time, I could get away with using a bolder color. This vibrant blue was a perfect match to the swimsuit. The other green flowers came from a $5 assorted tub of beads I bought at Walmart. I'm not using them the intended way--I put them through jump rings rather than stringing them onto a bracelet. But in my book, there are no rules to making jewelry! I love how these two pairs are different from on another, but still look like the same girl bought them!
Sylvain Dubuisson, the designer and architect, designed the portable pavilion that houses the WAVE exhibition. This pavilion, the Wavespace, is a 500 m2 metal structure whose inflatable roof of pearlescent canvas rises to a height of more than 8m. This flexible, translucent material reflects the spirit of the project in its lightness and fluidity. Its raised curves match an undulating graphic design on the façade. The whole affirms its singularity and confirms its name: Wavespace, an extraordinary and surprising object. Designed to be portable, it stands out perfectly in both urban and green environments. The structure is slated to travel around the world after its initial installation in Paris.

The Shadownlands Collection is based on science fiction stories by Dyan Bender.
The second character in the collection is Fyre, whose secret name is Ardala. She is the adopted daughter of a wealthy Healer and direct descendant of the last ruler of what is often called the Great City.
She is a Highborn, a race the developed from Human close intermarriage of the ruling families. Thru centuries of narrowed bloodlines a race of physically beautiful and mentally gifted people consolidated power. Marked physically by extremely pale pearlescent skin and blazing red hair with oddly metallic quality. Highborn are marked by a drive to acquire power and are gifted with something other races call Charisma.
Ardala is young, she has gained her full height but is still not filled out completely. She has been able to pass as a boy for years. Her eyes are blue, the warm blue of shallow seas, and bright with curiosity and good humor. Although wealthy now for many years she and her mother moved often and she has learned to easily adapt to new locations...she enjoys learning about new people, customs and cultures. She is gentle, and her gentle nature shows in her expression. She completely lacks the imperious and commanding nature that typically marks Highborn, but she is just starting to understand that she has personal power, she is starting to learn that she can command the attention of others.
She wears her silk finery, wide pants of teal silk that were left a bit short in the ankles in her last growth spurt; silk slippers encrusted with brass sequins; a silk chiffon vest draping over her young shoulders with fine brass chains; a bra heavily embellished with tiger eye gems, brass and gold, forming hawk motives that symbolize and foreshadow her soaring potential. Her hips, neck and intricately braided hair are adorned with gold chains.
The doll is a Andro Inamorata Nnaji in Milk skintone.
This is a commissioned bespoken OOAK doll and not for sale.
graudated beads of polymer clay in emerald, indigo, and deep plum colors; strung on black rubber cord with gold clasp; approx 16" long.
On my second attempt to get the the Limited Edition Wedding Cinderella 17'' Doll from eBay, I finally got her! I got her with the help of a fellow collector. She is #450 of 500, and was originally sold by the Japan Disney Store. There is a Japanese sticker on the bottom of the box. She was shipped double boxed, and very well packed. She arrived in perfect condition.
She is very beautiful, and has a serene expression, rather than the grumpy pout of the LE Ballgown Cinderella doll. Her lips have a slight smile, which is part of why she has a more pleasant expression than the other doll, who shares the same face mold. She is glancing in the opposite direction of the Ballgown Cinderella, and her skin has a matte surface, rather than the shiny pearly surface of the Ballgown doll. Her pale yellow wedding gown has many differently sized and colored rhinestones enhancing the printed floral pattern. There are also several small jeweled plastic butterflies in the skirt, hidden amongst the flowers. The decorations continue throughout the back of the dress. There are also faux pearl buttons on her sleeves and on the back of her bodice. Her skirt is very full with a long train, and is in three differently colored layers. Under her skirts is a 3/4 length single layer tulle petticoat. Attached to her hair is an oversized pale yellow sheer chiffon veil. She has golden earrings and a jeweled golden tiara. Her wedding ring is a floral design with five golden beads; it is pinned to her hand. She has the old style legs, with fixed ankles. She is wearing simple ivory heels, with no decorations.
I will be posting a full set of detailed photos of this doll. She will be shown boxed, during deboxing, and fully deboxed, both by herself and with other Disney Store dolls.

This particular AC Cobra Replica was in amazing condition when it was spotted as an exhibit at the 2013 Classic Transport Gathering at Crich Tramway Village in Derbyshire, on the 26th August 2013. This particular Pilgrim Sumo was made back in 2003 and it was first registered in the UK, in the same year, on the 1st of April 2003 so presumably has lived in the UK all its life. This one does have its original engine according to the DVLA, a 5.7 Litre (5700cc) V8 engine which runs on petrol. This particular car when seen had been given pearlescent paint, and this is the paint that changes colour depending upon the angle of viewing, this paint costs around £1000 a litre.
Here she is in her box! I bought her at Meijer this morning for 19.99. They only had two, and it was only the evil queen. I bought one.lol I assume they have already sold out of Ursula. I didn't see any traces of the new disney signature princesses. The evil queen is very pretty, especially for a Mattel play line disney doll. One thing I will have to say is, I think this is a play line doll, instead of a collector doll. It came with no certificate, or stand. It also has the hollow plastic legs, and very stiff joints for sturdy play. Her outfit is made out of a couple different fabrics. Her dress is the typical stiff Mattel satin. Her sleeves are a almost polyester spandexy material. Her cape is a felt like material, that they use alot with velcro. So it's not the nicest. The cowl is the same stiff satin Mattel uses. Her crown is a hard plastic painted in gold chrome. It stays on with plastic pegs, that connects to the back of her head. Her head is a pearlescent peach vinyl, with crushed black velvet lining her face. The crushed velvet goes all around her head instead of half way, so thank goodness.lol her apple is the same plastic as the crown, but painted in red and green chrome paint. It has a prong that specially fits in the queens specially molded hand. Her belt is a soft gold plastic, could be rubber. Her shoes are a hard gold plastic, and have the skull apple embellishments on the tip. All in all, I think for a Mattel doll, she's worth it! Especially if you don't have a evil queen. And I actually prefer this one over the Disney store one.
Deboxing the 2015 LE Elsa Doll. First the front cardboard lid is removed, revealing a clear plastic window underneath. Then the plastic window and rear cardboard lid are removed, leaving the doll attached to a free standing cardboard backing. The Certificate of Authenticity is removed from below the backing.
The Limited Edition Elsa Doll, released in stores in North America on March 3, 2015. My doll is #2942 of 5000. She is in jeweled purple felt (made from faux wool). This is the outfit she wore as an 18 year old when saying good bye to her parents before their overseas journey. She is wearing ice blue jeweled satin gloves, which help repress her ice powers. Her hands are clasped together. Her pose and look are that of a sternly repressed nature. She is standing in front a purple window of the Castle, which is closed, as she is closed to the outside world.
She is wearing black flats with floral decoration. Her jacket is pinned to her dress, which I left alone, as it helps to keep the jacket from opening up. There was a large amount of tissue paper stuffing under her skirt. I had to remove her from the doll stand before I could remove the tissue.
She has shiny pearlescent skin, and her skin tone is between that of Coronation Elsa and Snow Queen Elsa. Her hair is slicked down in the front and is in a bun in the back. There is gold tinsel in her hair, even in her side burns.

Noctilucent clouds are the highest clouds in the Earth's atmosphere, located in the mesosphere at altitudes of around 76 to 85 kilometres (47 to 53 mi). They are normally too faint to be seen, and are visible only when illuminated by sunlight from below the horizon while the lower layers of the atmosphere are in the Earth's shadow.
Noctilucent clouds can form only under very restrictive conditions; their occurrence can be used as a sensitive guide to changes in the upper atmosphere.
Deboxing the Designer SQ Elsa and Hans Doll Set. Prince Hans has been fully deboxed. He is posed free standing.
I have finally deboxed the Designer Fairytale Snow Queen Elsa and Hans Doll Set (2015). My set is #4597 of 6000. It was the only set that I didn't get at the Disney Store raffle, so I had to order her online. I show the set boxed, during deboxing and fully deboxed. After deboxing them, I place them back on their display stand, in a different pose.
I was a little surprised that Elsa has the body construction of the 2012 DS Classic Princess dolls, so has external hinged knee joints and ankle joints. It makes her legs a bit unsightly when they are exposed by opening the slit of the skirt. She has shiny pearlescent skin that is similar to the Harrods Elsa doll, but doesn't have the heavy blush. Her Snow Queen outfit also has embellishments that are more similar to that of the Harrods Elsa rather than that of the LE 2500 Snow Queen Elsa. But rather than the jeweled snowflakes of the 17'' LE Elsa she has single clear rhinestones throughout her braid, and a few on her head. The snowflake and icicle design in her cape are printed rather than embroidered (as in the 17'' LE Elsas) or glittered (as in the Classic Elsa). They are flat and smooth, and I don't think are as effective in depicting ice.
The major embellishments of Designer Hans over Classic Hans are the addition of white gloves, and a sword. However, It's disappointing that there is no scabbard for the sword - it is loosely sewn to his pants legs, which looks rather cheap.
I will show the dolls in side by side comparisons to other Elsa and Hans dolls in future postings.

I did some B&W conversions of some of the Mesquite Dunes images from Death Valley. Color version below. I like the high contrast and pearlescent light from the early morning sun on the faces of the dunes.
It's quite nice when viewed larger on black.
If you haven't visited Death Valley yet, you're probably assuming, as I did, that it is covered with sand dunes; actually dunes cover only about 1% of the vast National Park; these are the easiest to get to, with a handy parking lot nearby. That means, of course, that everyone stops there and there are many footprints to prove it. I researched some of the other less accessible dunes and may try to get to those next time I visit.

She has shiny pearlescent skin, and her skin tone is between that of Coronation Elsa and Snow Queen Elsa. Her hair is slicked down in the front and is in a bun in the back. There is gold tinsel in her hair, even in her side burns.

They both have the flats, and the plastic has a pearlescent cast to it. It's quite lovely. I will say, as much as I hate the DS heels, I actually like them on the Stepsisters as they are supposed to be tacky and gauche.
*Petticoat isn't included.
ADL Enviro 400 Hybrid, number 201 (SN11 EES) hits the road for the first time after some special promotional treatment at the 2011 NEC exhibition in Birmingham.
201 is an 11-plate registration hybrid, unlike 202 to 215 which are all 61-plates, but it has quickly had its gold fleet numbers replaced with the smart red digits as can be seen here.
Although not specifically branded these fifteen buses will work Service 10 and have tv-monitor route diagrams on board, audio service information announcements, technical data about how the buses actually work and interior promotional banners all about the 10 between Bonaly and Torphin, in the Colinton district, and here at Western Harbour, beside Newhaven fishing village and lighthouse.
Lothian's new Hybrids are painted not in the usual red and white 'classic' livery but in Radiance Red over Winter Gold i.e. the standard weinrot und weiss colours are changed for a pearlescent paint version.
For a numerical tour of Lothian's fifteen Enviro 400's please visit this set:

Background is done traditional polished stone technique with Alcohol inks in Rust, Oregano and Slate on glossy white paper. Image stamped in Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate. White accents done with Ranger Inkssentials White Opaque Pen. Both stamps are Hero Arts.

I really do love the clingy minidresses that coquetryclothing.com's Ellie creates! They have a great "build your own" minidress option too!
For this ensemble I've matched it up with black fishnet hose and my silver pumps with 5" heels.

Deboxing the Designer SQ Elsa and Hans Doll Set. Elsa has been deboxed. She is posed standing, supported by a Kaiser stand. Her cape is in a normal partially opened position, and her right leg is showing through the slit in the skirt. Her hair braid is draped over her left shoulder.

In 1955, the Lincoln division of Ford Motor Company designed and built a futuristic concept car called the Lincoln Futura. It was the brainchild of Lincoln Mercury's postwar chief stylist, Bill Schmidt. Inspired by a scuba-diving encounter with a shark, Schmidt sketched a low, long, wide, and flat vision of the future with a predatory full width grille, ominously hooded headlights, and killer tail fins. It was built entirely by hand in Turin, Italy at a cost of $250,000, and like many concept cars, was never put in to production.
The Futura played a prominent part in the 1959 movie It Started with a Kiss, starring Debbie Reynolds and Glenn Ford. For the movie, it was painted red, as the pearlescent finish did not photograph well
After that, though, the car would have been forgotten and perhaps destroyed, as most show cars of that time were. However, it was sold into the hands of George Barris, an auto customizer. Despite the car's original cost of $250,000, the Lincoln Futura was sold to Barris for $1.00 and "other valuable consideration" by Ford Motor Company. As the car was never titled and was therefore uninsurable, it was parked behind Barris' shop where it sat idle for several years and was allowed to deteriorate.
Fast forward to August 1965, the Batman TV show producers approached George to have him build a new Batmobile for their upcoming show. The only catch was the car had to be ready for action in a mere three weeks. Seeing the bat-like qualities his Futura already had, George knew it was the perfect answer to the quandary 20th Century Fox had created.
In October of 1965, the Batmobile was completed and delivered to Fox where it made its television debut on January 12, 1966.
The car was such a huge success that George Barris and the producers of Batman decided to build copies of the Batmobile in late 1966. Barris and his crew pulled a mold from the #1 Batmobile and created 3 fiberglass copies on 1958 Thunderbird chassis. These replicas were displayed at car shows and dragstrips and also made appearances where countless fans could see them.
Over 45 years later the 1966 TV Batmobile is still one of the most iconic and popular cars in the world. Both of these diecasts are by Hot Wheels; Mr Barris only recently allowed models of the Futura to be made again, allowing us to compare his creation with the original Futura.
With a 227 inch length, 126 inch wheelbase, and 84.6 inch width it is a large car; only the 2002 Mighty F-350 Tonka concept truck and the largest Lincoln Continentals are the only vehicles that are longer.

Left, use to glue the foam board edges or anything crafty you make. It dries clear and fairly quickly. It makes fabric look wet so don't use it to glue fabric on.
Middle, THE BEST fabric glue. It will grab almost instantly and won't show if you use it sparingly. I used this to glue the turqoise bed fabric to the headboard and to attach it underneath the oval main part of the bed too.
Right, Perfect for priming your foam core so that you can paint it with acrylic or craft paint BUT when you paint over it, do very thin multiple coats, usually 2 works for me. otherwise you will wet the board too much and it will warp.
Finishing touches. My taupe living room and blush coloured bedroom/sometimes clothes shop, are both glazed with pearlescent craft paint to give them a glow that gives them a sheen and depth.
Thanks to Mark Bender at the Tiffen NAB booth for recording this for me. I think I will test out the Pearlescent 1/8 and some others close to that.

The Turbo Titan III looked like nothing that anyone had ever seen. The futuristic cab incorporated a massive, panoramic windshield, while two gaping nacelles on each side of the cab helped feed air into the turbine engine. Adding to the futuristic look were gullwing-style windows, pop-out headlamps and turn signals, and a plush interior, sans a steering “wheel.” As strange as it looks, instead of a conventional wheel, the driver steered the Titan III with one of two large dials mounted in front of him.
The Turbo Titan’s chassis was rather conventional, except for its powertrain. GM employed their new-at-the-time GT-309 turbine engine, and connected it to a six-speed Allison automatic transmission. While GM touted the engine produced 280 horsepower, its true selling point was the unbelievable low-end, freight-moving torque. When the engine’s output shaft approached stall speed, (the point at which a turbine engine produces the most torque), it could produce as much as 875 lb-ft of torque.
Although engineers actually drove the truck from coast to coast several times, the truck itself was little more than a promotional vehicle. Ultimately, it was scrapped when GM no longer felt that turbine power was feasible. At one time, they promised to offer a gas turbine engine in a few commercial vehicles between 1971 and 1973, but the turbine’s propensity to gulp fuel and rising oil prices, forced GM to scrap the idea altogether.
The Turbo Titan III utilized a fiberglass and steel combination for cab construction, and was painted in a Pearlescent White. The styling theme extended to cover the chassis, which was completely concealed by molded-fiberglass panels. There were doors mounted on both sides of the truck, just ahead of the rear wheels that allowed access to dual batteries and the turbine engine when the cab was electrically tilted. The headlight pods mounted on each side of the truck were retractable, and were mounted within functional air intakes.
Inside, space-age seats with full headrests were mounted on each side of a center console, and a production-line sourced automatic shifter handle was mounted in the console. Long trips can be boring without some music, so a four-speaker FM radio and a two-way telephone was installed.

Pilgrims in a pine temple
Wandering into the silent and bear-black forest, the silvered sliver of a hooking moon set, we filled every silent space with amber-toothed, snarling phantoms and held them at bay with nips of cognac and the click of the shutter. Silhouettes under pearlescent starlight, the big trees are primeval minarets, spires of the oldest and grandest cathedral on Earth. We moved reverently, slowly - pilgrims in a pine temple come in the dark to play witness.
Some amongst these trees were old when men lashed Andromeda to the briny rocks and awaited the leviathan. We've filled the interceding centuries with other lambs led to slaughter, and emerging from darkness, discovered her still radiant, shackled to a constellation that is dying in a corner of the sky. Then as now, we are infants amongst giants, in wonder at skies the big trees have seen reel a million times, shades passing in the night. These are the days of miracle and wonder indeed.
We headed into the Sierras looking for a winter adventure, hoping for giant, snow-bound sentinels holding winter in great, fragrant handfuls. Instead we found beautiful, unseasonable warmth and clear night skies amongst the carpeted and ancient groves. We came for the snow and found so much more in its absence.</p
