A radar operator sits at a keyboard in the operations room onboard Type 23 frigate HMS Monmouth.
Alarms sound, drills commence, monitors flash, switches are made; it seems a lot to think about all at once, but this is the constant tempo in the beating heart of HMS Monmouth; the Operations Room.
There are banks of displays each showing unique information which, to the untrained eye, is a jumble of letters, numbers and lines, but to the members of the Warfare department who call the Ops room home, it enables them to fuse information together to allow the Ship to operate effectively and is their way of life throughout a 7 month deployment.

As a former operator, I have always loved these types of photos. This shot, taken by Clyde Stickley in 1970 shows ATSF agent/operator Jean Ferguson working at her desk in Waynoka, Oklahoma. This shot has all the basic operator items including: Scissor phone to talk to the dispatcher on the block line, CTC machine, current employee timetable hanging from the machine (ATSF Plains Division ETT #3), ATSF calendar on the wall, train orders/clearances/lineups and other paperwork on desk. She seems to be fairly young and very ladylike and sports a big smile.
I am completely unfamiliar with this location and the Santa Fe isn't on the top of my favorites however, I always loved this photograph.

First Transpennine Express and Northern Rail now have new operators in the shape of TransPennine Express (solely First, no Keolis) and Arriva Rail North, transferring on the 1st April 2016. No fool joke here. Here is a photo taken before the changes, when the prior operators were still there earlier in March 2016, during a visit to Manchester.

The Delaine bus business of Bourne, Lincolnshire is one of Britain’s longest-established operators, still going strong today, and currently in the hands of the fifth and sixth generations of the founding Delaine-Smith family. Its daily service between Bourne and Peterborough, first introduced in 1923, remains at the heart of the business.
Delaine has managed to accommodate tradition within the demands of a modern business, and this has been reflected in the retention of its long-standing livery. The fleet size has been maintained at around 45 vehicles, all immaculately presented whether bought new or second-hand. The company caters to the enthusiast community, retaining a collection of preserved vehicles from the fleet that live active lives at events.
Delaine also hosts running days, when the owners of preserved buses have the opportunity to give public rides on the Peterborough-Bourne route. On Bank Holiday Saturday in 1996, I participated in such a running day. The event also included a display of vehicles at the Peterborough Show Ground. There Delaine showed off its newest vehicle, N3OCT, a Volvo Olympian with East Lancashire bodywork to Alexander design. This bus was new in 1995 and served Delaine for 17 years. Later re-registered N923MPV, it served with two school bus operators in Eastern England, eventually going for scrap in 2020.
