Remarks :
After the storm passed through, and I got back to Cloverdale, CA., I noticed the 60X was due into town at any moment, so I headed to Cloverdale Plaza. To my surprise I found Sonoma County Transit Bus 211, a 2010 Orion VII-CNG, which I caught earlier today at the Santa Rosa Transit Mall and then again in Windsor, CA., sitting here on the layover.
Shorly after my arrival, the 60X with a 2014 Eldorado National Axess BRT-CNG came into town and had a very friendly driver!

It was not until I studied this picture that I realized what a complex structure that crane was and what a responsibility the operator has! One false move and he could cost thousands, if not millions!!

No name written on the back. Printed in Dallas TX. Dated by printer January 1959. I keep looking at the stove in the next room, and it is a reminder of how dedicated these phone operators were during that time. The clock reminds me of a clock we had back in that era. I do wish I could make out the calendar to see how soon after the photo was taken that the film was sent off to develop.
I sure wish I had that stove, though.

Seeing this wonderfully restored innovative 'modern' double decker screeching around over the weekend, and noting that it was an early example of an Ailsa, I had to look it up on BLOTW. It appears that it was the first of the type sold to an operator, bearing chassis No. 74001. It differed in appearance to from West Midlands production run of the type by the use of the more attractive curved glass screens favoured by the SBG on most of their deliveries.

The UK’s Bus Operator of the Year, Nottingham City Transport, has announced the winner of its annual ‘Driver of the Year’ award for 2012.
Sixty-year-old Barry Polkey from Clifton was crowned the worthy winner at a special awards dinner that included one of the last performances of this year’s Theatre Royal Pantomime, Cinderella. And it was Adam C Booth, the actor who played Buttons, who presented Barry with his Driver of the Year shield and certificate.
Barry, who joined Nottingham City Transport in June 2010 and drives the L53 from Clifton to Arnold, was one of five finalists who had each won a Seasonal Driver Award throughout the year. To qualify for the Seasonal Driver Award, drivers needed to have had 100% attendance, always turn up on time, have no live disciplinary awards or blameworthy accidents on file and have a clean driving licence.
“The Seasonal Driver and Driver of the Year initiative was launched to recognise and celebrate the continual hard work and professionalism of our drivers,” explains NCT Marketing Manager, Anthony Carver-Smith. “Winners are decided wholly by mystery travellers who measure customer service, driving standards and overall competence over numerous random trips. Barry achieved outstanding marks of 91%, making him the ‘best of the best’ and this is a fantastic achievement he should be really proud of.”
The ‘NCT Driver of the Year’ title rounds off quite an eventful time for Barry, as he also recently celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary and 60th birthday!
“I’ve been driving this route for two years now and the best part of my job is interacting with the passengers,” said Barry. “To know I’ve won this award thanks to their feedback really means a lot to me, and puts an extra spring in my step on my way to work! My friends and family know Nottingham City Transport well and are really proud of me – it’s a great way to start 2013. ”
Prior to starting at NCT, Barry’s varied experience has seen him as an insurance agent for 23 years, and then a postman for 11 years, but straight after leaving school his career began very differently. Aged 16 he became a football apprentice at Ipswich Town, and it’s ‘the beautiful game’ where his passion still lies.
For the last 34 years, as an FA-qualified linesman Barry has officiated several high profile games, including 1998’S Coca Cola Cup Final between Chelsea and Middlesborough, and 7-a-side matches at the Para Olympics in Atlanta in ’96, at the Sydney games in 2000 and in Athens in 2004.
