Not the sharpest photo but definitely too cute not to post!

I'm an idiot. I'll have to re-shoot this one when the sun comes out again.

I didn't mean to take this. Time to make a new Flickr album.

Miscalculating the Creek - Colorado

Not sure why, but these points were a little problematic. Here Damien's power van split the points and my Garratt ran into the back.

I have been traveling in the desert of Northern Africa for the past weeks with no internet access, so I found out about this rather late: my charging lion picture was commended in the 2010 Travel Photographer of the Year Awards.

As with most wildlife shots, there was quite a bit of luck involved to get this shot - after all, with wild animals you never know what's going to happen. Most wildlife photographers use long tele lenses to photograph potentially dangerous animals, and that is probably a wise thing to do. However, wide angle shots are often more dynamic, more in your face, so that's what I wanted to try in South Africa with lions. I used a radio controlled remote and shot from a handheld monopod, turned upside down, without getting out of the car. It's my secret (well, not anymore) technique to get low level perspective shots with wide angle lenses, while remaining flexible and without running the risk of getting eaten. This male lion did not appreciate the clicks coming from the grass very much, and decided to charge the D3. I guess he was more the Canon type.

I am extracting honey at the moment.

The big bits of equipment like this decapping tray normally get hosed down in the garden after use to get excess honey and wax fragments off.

The rule is to set it out and start hose straight away but I got distracted for about 5 minutes and the bees have found it.

Hopefully this wont start robbing, I have a few hives just 40 meters or so from this spot

.....a female sparrow was having difficulty staying on the post, eventually there was no choice but to fly - I missed that part!

This bird (not sure which one, help identify please), flew right in front of us with a fresh catch, and then could not hold on to it! Got lucky with this shot.

A couple of canoeist's flipped their canoe into the Cowichan River near Duncan BC. They were part of a group of canoeists taking lessons on upstream paddling from the instructor in the red canoe. The group are from the Victoria Canoe & Kayak Club. Victoria is south of Duncan about an hour away. Lesson learned, I hope.
