"For our final day of our getaway from Victoria, we decided to visit Spider Lake. We had seen it on our way to the Horne Lake Caves, and after reading about it online, we decided to had to check it out. We were so glad we did. The water was amazing (although he was a bit of a wimp initially getting in), and we spent hours swimming around the lake, making occasional visits to the little islands." - Chelsea Fitz, 2012 myPQB Story Contest

I love that my kids know nothing but the wind, waves, and sandy beaches." - Natasha Mayes, 2012 myPQB Story Contest

"This was taken at Pacific Shores Resort in July of 2007. My entire family was visiting my uncle at Craig Bay for a family reunion. It was a wonderful chance for my sons, as young adults, to bask in family love while beachcombing Rathtrevor beach, showering in Little Qualicum Falls and getting a sense of each other big and small. The relaxed beachy atmosphere was perfect for wary family members to come together over nature walks and alfresco hot dog roasts on the beach." - Gail Whitworth, 2012 myPQB Story Contest.

On yesterday’s post I explained how Carmyn tends to get in the water a little too far at the beach and Rylee helps her get out. When I saw this shot come up in post, I asked Rylee what the hug was all about and she said, “Oh Carmyn was thanking me for saving her from the wave”. Gotta love sisterly love 💗

I See You

Z9, 140mm, 1/400s, f/6.3, ISO 200

Homalco Wildlife and Cultural Tours take you up the Bute Inlet where two rivers converge - one glacial green and the other fresh water. It is a perfect place for fish to spawn and Bears to hunt. They have six towers and one or two land look out places. It took us a long time for bear sightings. We changed towers twice, but ended up back at the first tower we had just spent and hour waiting. We saw three bears while there, but only one was close enough for good viewing and photos. Unfortunately, my long lens was in the bus as they walked us down the road from the bus before I had a chance to change my lens. I made do with my 70-200 with a 2x extender. One thing I like most about this shot are the layers of the two rivers together - rocks on bank in foreground, and log jam behind. The bear was backlit, so even though his face is towards us, it was difficult to get that smile!’

Mature Nursing Tree

Here’s another nursing tree - I love the richness of the forest and the way it nourishes itself.
