This brought back many great childhood memories for us as we lived in a very different non-technical world just fifty years ago. Blue Lightning

Favourites Series: Storms

From the Archives Aug 2020

Nikon z9, 14mm, 15 sec, f/2.8, ISO 200

I’m going to share a few more photos from the epic lightning storm of 2020 as there were so many great shots. We do have lots of thunder here today, but I haven’t seen any lightning yet. Maybe my reminiscing will bring them in? Haha a storm girl could only hope!

Family Photo Time

Nikon z9, 34mm (24-70mm f/2.8G), 1/800 s, f/8, ISO 800

We headed out in the snow today to get some family photos. It was bitter cold (- 10) trying to get the settings on the camera without my glove on, but I have to hand it to Len and Nikki for their patience. Happy Holidays everyone!

Thanks for following my work. I’m on FB, IG, Flickr, Twitter, and Vero. Website in bio.

"Every Summer, magic happens for me in the Qualicum Beach and Parksville area and this summer was no exception. My friend and I were coming home from a day exploring, dancing in a field with mountains in the background to a little local band, playing at the beach and we turned down a side road and got to see this most amazing sunset which was the perfect ending to our wonderful day together." - Margaret Farquhar, 2014 myPQB Story Contest

Self Portrait 9 - Boy’s Toys Series

Nikon z9, 24mm, 1/30s, f/8, ISO 800

Len was so excited about yesterday’s photo on his John Deer bull dozer that he asked if I would do a Boy’s Toys Series with all his machines. He even asked for the yellow boots, and then outfitted me with one of his red flannel jackets, yellow sound proof ear muffs, and gloves. We laughed and laughed but have a cute little series of self portraits for the next few days.

Hidden in Fog

.

On dark foggy mornings there are often hidden surprises on the ocean. This orca quietly swam by with only the sound of his blow catching our attention. This shot is in colour, but with the darkness comes out black and white. I love the moodiness of this shot.

Humpback Whale Breach sequence shot 5. After getting it’s entire body out of the water, this large animal falls back into the ocean. I love this sideways position and joy of movement! Check out my reels to see a 30 sec video of this sequence.

Wave Sweep

Nikon z9, 150mm, 1/1000s, f/11, ISO 640

We were hit by a Bomb Cyclone yesterday and today (with another coming Friday and yet another next week). It was a crazy night: trees down, power outages, we lost part of our fence, others had trees come down on houses or cars, roads closed, and just a mess overall. This was the loudest wind I have ever experienced. Howling, whistling, even my rock solid house felt drafty. We were lucky to have a wood stove for heat, propane for cooking, and our household together keeping warm. Nikki was a bit freaked out. I managed to brave some of the wind today to catch some waves.
