------------------

"Take a Greek temple, incorporate it entirely in a Christian building, to which are subsequently added the modifications and reconstruction of the building for Christian worship used by the Normans, among others, the facade demolished by the great earthquake of 1693. Without discouraging you you get back to work and, changing completely direction, replace the old facade with a delightful baroque composition from around 1728-54. And everything, deteriorated as it is, continues to live and smile, spreading its image throughout the world as if it had been designed by a Leonardo or a Michelangelo "»

(Lawrence Durrell speaks of the Cathedral of Syracuse)

The Cathedral of the Nativity of Maria Santissima rises on the elevated part of the island of Ortigia, incorporating what was the main Doric style sacred temple of the polis of Syrakousai, dedicated to Athena (Minerva) and converted into a church with the advent of Christianity.

Considered the most important church in the city of Syracuse, it has become part of the assets protected by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Its style is mainly baroque and rococo on the outside, while inside it alternates parts dating back to the Siceliot era, since they belong to the Greek temple and parts dating back to the medieval era, built by the Normans and thus left to the present day. Its internal structure is composed of several naves and chapels, which have a classic and decorated style, typical of the Baroque too.

Of great religious significance, it houses statues, relics and remains of saints, martyrs and noblemen from Syracuse. Its furnishings have seen the succession of artists from many parts of Italy and from abroad. Always a symbol of Syracusan religiosity, the cathedral went through the various historical and cultural phases of the city.

The previous day, a local man explained to me a perfect location for enjoy the photograph of this beautiful land.

I consulted the parameters that night and everything was correct to travel there.

The truth is that I was impressed to get to that place, I put on my waders running to get me asap and do not lose the time.

The sun had not yet risen, the water reached my waist, good temperature, soft wind, a lot of clouds and fog surrounding the horizon, made the conditions were the best.

Many photos I've seen of this place is that in photoshop blur the horizon line with the clone tool, but there was fog and with long exposure, completely erased.

It seemed that I was doing a photo shoot in the same heaven.

I think for many more times to return to this place, I can never find anything so perfect.

This is the photo shoot I most enjoyed in recent years, have a set of at least seven impressive images.

On the technical side, say that I only used a neutral gradient three steps filter.

I hope you like it. Have a nice Thursday. :)

A modified 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray photographed at a car show in Ankeny, Iowa.

Someone made unusual modifications to this abandoned, or ghost, ship.

A piece of curved, reinforced sheet metal has been permanently attached to the front of the vessel's pilot house. This is not normal as it would completely block the crew's view and make it impossible to steer the vessel safely from within the pilot house. Photos elsewhere taken from the other side of the boat show that the barrier does not extend as far around the starboard (right) side of the pilot house.

Also, metal bars that run from just below the roof of the pilot house to the top of the railing seem to prop up the port (left) side of the pilot house. This is not a normal feature of modern naval architectural architecture. Among other things, the row of metal bars would get in the way of people wanting to walk along the port side of the boat.

I can describe the modifications but I'm at a loss to explain them.

I'd love to see this as an offical set :) This is fairly crudely built but would be a fun ideas/ architecture set, especially with the 100ish story high rise modification ;)

Historic narrowboat PLOVER was bult in 1914 and worked for Fellows, Morton and Clyton until she was sold in 1949.

Over the years there have been a number of changes and modifications including, five different engines, a cabin extension and her steel bottom replaced.

The vessel has had several owners overs the years and was used commercially until 1992 when she went in private ownership.

She is a registered historic ship. Seen here at Croughton on he way to the Easter Historic Boat Gathering at The National Waterways Museum Ellesmere Port.

Another of the places that most impressed me of the Cantabria Coast.

Photographing the north coast, it becomes a difficult task for all the variables to fit, coincidence of sunrise-sunset with high-low tides depending on each place, having good lights and whenever you can look for less-seen frames, it complicates a lot things.

On the technical side, say that I used the combination of a ND four steps filter and a soft gradient ND three steps filter.

LENS TEST: OM ZUIKO Auto-Zoom 1:4 f = 75-150mm

Kamishakujii, Tokyo, Japan. © Michele marcolin, 2022. K1ii + Photodiox OM > PK + OM Zuiko Auto-Zoom 75-150mm f4.

Still testing out this old OM lens, of which I read a good review some times ago, after stumbling upon a series of very beautiful images taken with it, which did not give the feeling of being the product of a ’70-’80 lens at all. I've found by chance a mint copy for peanuts at the used camera store I frequently visit in the neighborhood to kill time (and with it, my these-days-always-too-few bucks) and only after I realized we had one in our collection...! Doh~!

Anyway... I love OM lenses because (beside being a log time Oly user) they belong to a time when Olympus used to do things very well and with pride. And while they can not equate modern HD lenses for digital, almost all of them are top notch and still delivers quality images with a special character. The only regret is that they can’t be used directly on Pentax FF bodies, unless you change their mount with a Leitax one, with some slight modification: flange distance is almost identical, therefore too thin to accept a standard adapter ring. So you need one with extra refocusing glass inside, which unfortunately tend to bring a loss of quality, brightness, colors when you less expect it (none to be seen in these images, though).

You can find a good description of the lens here:

www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/olympuso...

Despite its age and its pioneering status (the first Oly zoom) it is reasonably sharp, with a good color bouquet (greens and red are vivid and with a slight yellow component). The quick blur transition when you move away from the center is, I think, to be attributed to the extra glass of the adapter, which also contribute unwanted flares in frontal strong light, and a bit of iridescent glare at the edges of back-lit outlines.

Location: 172 Main St., Killingly (Danielson), CT

Architect: William Russell Walker (1830–1905)

Built in 1876 this “Second Empire” Victorian structure was once known locally as the “Music Hall”. It featured shows, plays and various musical events. In 1906 the Town of Killingly purchased the building for use as the Town Hall.

Unfortunately, the decorative slate roof that once adorned the mansard tower was changed to sheet metal or aluminum. The original Victorian entryway was also the victim of extensive glass and steel modifications.

Skipton Castle is one of the most complete and well preserved medieval castles in England, first built in 1090 by Robert de Romille, a Norman baron. Most of the castle as seen today dates from the early 14th Century, with modifications in the early 15th and mid 17th Centuries.

The irregular and picturesque Conduit Court dates from the early 16th Century. The yew tree in the centre of the courtyard was planted in 1659.
