Several ponds and lakes occur along the North Fork of the Licking River, between the towns of Newark and St. Louisville in Licking County, Ohio. These bodies of water are artificial - they are filling old gravel mines. Only one bedrock mine still operates in Licking County, plus active gravel mining.
This gravel mine is the St. Louisville Facility, owned by Shelly Materials. The company started in 1946 and has mines/quarries in 77 out of Ohio's 88 counties. This site has a sand and gravel operation, plus an asphalt plant. Mining here started in the 1980s. It is currently a wet mine - a dredging operation. Machinery extracts sand and gravel from 60 to 70 feet below the visible water surface in the ponds. The sediments are sorted into piles of sand and larger grains, including landscaping gravel. I've been told that this site produced 770,000 tons of gravel back in 2004, sold at about four American dollars per ton.
The southern and eastern edges of the mine expose a modern soil developed directly atop the sand-gravel deposit. The deposit itself is not really well-sorted overall - it's mostly a mix of sand and finer-grained gravel (pebbles). There are discrete intervals of sand interbedded with gravel-rich horizons. The deposit includes cobbles. This material is a glacial outwash deposit of Late Pleistocene age. It was deposited as the Wisconsinan Ice Sheet melted. Glaciers are more than just ice - considerable volumes of sediments are mixed in. Upon melting, the sediments get washed out. The valley containing the North Fork of the Licking River is mostly buried and filled with such glacial outwash. According to the glacial map of Ohio produced by the Ohio Geological Survey, the glacial outwash at this site is 15,000 to 18,000 years old.
The glacial outwash clasts include a wide variety of lithologies. Some have been eroded from local and near-local Ohio bedrock (e.g., Mississippian siliciclastics). Some clasts are derived from Precambrian bedrock in Canada. One distinctive clast lithology I've seen here is metatillite from the Paleoproterozoic Gowganda Formation. These metatillites are slightly metamorphosed, ancient glacial till deposits (coarse-grained, poorly-sorted, non-bedded). Such rocks are intriguing - they represent two Ice Ages in one sample: a 2.3 billion year old Ice Age deposit represented as a clast in a 15,000 to 18,000 year old Ice Age deposit.
The slanted layering in the picture is cross-bedding, which forms in a one-directional current by wind or water. In this case, it was water in glacial meltwater streams.

George Riddell © Linda Dawn Hammond / IndyFoto.com March 26, 2006. RIDDELL FISHING TACKLE & APPL 55 Bernard street, Montreal, Quebec . George, who died June 2010, owned this fishing lure store for 48 years. He made over 8000 unique lures by hand, from found materials such as pop cans. He was somewhat of a recluse but after years of being intrigued by his storefront, one day I decided to knock on the door. It turns out that he was also very interested in photography. George lived in the store, where I photographed him surrounded by his eclectic collection of lures, masks and fishing memorabilia. He gave me 3 of them, which I hang on my tree and will always treasure as a memory of that day.

A few days after the closing-out sale, the store windows stood empty except for a few pieces of wood. A new piece of paper taped to the window said: "Uncle George Riddell, 1928-2010. Thanks for the memories. Gone Fishing."

Usan guantes, medias y zapatillas blancas

STEP ONE - INSPECTION
Open the film door and avoid touching the existing light seal material if it's obviously in a state of decay (even if it isn't obviously in a state of decay you may find yourself with some thick dark gooey gunk sticking to your fingers upon touching it). If you detect any perished foam sticking to the actual body of the camera carefully remove it with a small piece of cloth dipped in white spirits or lighter fluid.
Unless the camera has been resealed in recent years, and resealed properly at that, you're almost certainly going to have to replace the exisiting seals even if they appear on first viewing to be fine. The latest 500G I came by had the original seals in place and they looked perfect, so I closed the camera door again. Later I opened it to put a film in and saw that just this brief exposure to air had triggered breakdown of the old seals and parts were coming off and sticking to the camera body.
You should remove the film tensioner back plate from the door for ease of cleaning and seal replacement. It is also feasible to remove the rear door entirely but I always choose to avoid this (purely based on childhood experiences that convinced me I'm great at taking things apart cleanly but beyond inept at putting them back together again). I prefer instead to carefully cradle the door during certain operations in order to avoid putting undue pressure on the hinge.

Material: Oil pastel
Size: 32 X 42 cm
Description: My concept for this piece is that every person I meet has a story I don't know about. With this theme, I'd like to show the world their stories just by art and not by actually telling the stories. Using different oil pastel colors added contrast to the portrait and showed the shadows, depth as well as the light areas appropriately.
