Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
These small plants have found a home among the decaying railroad ties, a perfect ecological niche.
EDIT
After posting, it occurred to me that this looks like an image to which selective color was applied. Actually, only a few spots on the wood beams were desaturated; otherwise, the colors are pretty much the way the way they appeared.
I don't know what this Red-necked Grebe is transporting, it almost looks like a dirty net of some kind, but it ends up part of the grebe's nest. Makes sense!
Thought I'd give the ole 2X tele a try with the 600 and the new R5. I was curious to see how that combination works together and I think it looks great! What do you think?

The theme for today’s Snap Happy was “Material” provided by Gary. I tried to shoot a few different sorts of materials and didn’t get any images I really liked a lot, this one is the one I disliked the least. It’s a white running sock, up very close.

The Third ‘R’ – Recycling
The last stage of the waste hierarchy is to recycle.
To recycle something means that it will be transformed again into a raw material that can be shaped into a new item.
Taken from a clifftop looking down on breaking waves and cormorants trying to make a nest.
Sunny here this afternoon after a grey morning.
During the breeding season, the northern gannets (Morus bassanus), seen here on the German North Sea island of Heligoland, are highly dedicated to continuously transporting materials for their nest hollow. This is conveniently carried out using the bird's beak. The partner gratefully receives the materials in an elaborate greeting ceremony.

Mangrove Swallow gathers nesting materials in March near the shore of Crooked Tree Lagoon. Funny Story: this guy sat there and kept eyeing the bigger stick you see in front of him. He finally dropped the small pieces of grass and flew off with the bigger stick which was nearly two feet long! I'm sure the Mrs. was impressed.
Wupatki National Monument in Arizona. These structures were abandoned about 1200 A.D., so to me, it's amazing that so many structures in this area are still standing.
The crew of BIP 178 performs their last job of the day spotting a cut of tank cars for Asphalt Materials Inc. near Marietta, OH. Once done, they'll head west to Blue Knob Rd. where the afternoon crew will take over for the trip into Parkersburg's High Yard.
It looks as though this greater coucal (centropus sinensis) is about to peck its way into a large fruit. Not true!! The bird was actually gathering nesting material by pulling off individual leaf fibres. Photographed in Khao Lak, Phang Nga, Thailand.

Anhinga's are one of my favorite birds. Their behavior always entertains. From the way they fish, feed their young, land and greet their mate when arriving at the nest. Here's one taken under good light bringing some nesting material home from a nearby tree.
This little lady was very hard at work bringing nesting material to her box. Mountain Bluebird taken west of Calgary, Alberta.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

This Cormorant gave me a nice approach with the branches considerately not blocking the bird’s eyes. This was taken at Green Cay, where the Cormorants and Anhinga were working hard to bring home nesting material. Action has slacked off and there doesn’t seem to be as many birds as in years passed. I hate to say it, but it doesn’t bode well for the future. I’ll throw my pitch in to support politicians who support environmental protection, conservation and public places. Pitch over, have another beer! It’s not the best juxtaposition but let me with us all and wonderful New Year and I hope to see many of you out in the field or at least online. All the best, Mike (Double-crested Cormorant - Nannopterum auritus) (Sony a1, 400mm, f/2.8, 1/2500 second, ISO 5000)
Although there’s a chick in the nest, the adults are still bringing nesting material. I would love to be able to ask them why but I imagine that it makes the nest more comfortable, covering a the bottom that may have been soiled or have bits of food drawing insects. It’s not easy to see what’s happening in the nest and I have yet to see the chick, or chicks if there’s more than one. Hopefully we’ll soon see a head or two pop up.
